Ubisoft stopped development on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake on January 30, 2026. The ESRB’s T for Teen rating is a real rating record, but it is not a sign that the game is awaiting a release date: Ubisoft says the project will not continue as announced.
Does The Sands of Time remake have a release date?
No. More importantly, this is no longer a case of a delayed game waiting for a date. Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia Team said on January 30, 2026: “We’ve made the difficult decision to stop development on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake.” Ubisoft said the project had not reached its quality bar and would require more time and investment than the company could responsibly commit. That cancellation supersedes earlier uncertainty about the release schedule. Ubisoft did not announce a replacement remake or another release date in the statement.
What does the ESRB rating mean?
The ESRB record rates the remake T for Teen. That confirms a rating was assigned to the project; it does not establish that the game is complete, available for purchase, or scheduled to launch. See the ESRB ratings record.

What had Ubisoft said about the remake before it was canceled?
In a May 24, 2023 update, Ubisoft said development had moved to Ubisoft Montreal and described the remake as being in conception. The update also outlined intended design priorities: preserving the original story and setting, retaining the narrator, and balancing acrobatics, combat, and puzzles. These were plans for the remake, not features of a released game. Ubisoft’s 2023 update.

No such departure was announced. Ubisoft said stopping work on this remake did not mean it was stepping away from the Prince of Persia franchise. That keeps the franchise’s future open, but it is not an announcement of a new Sands of Time remake or any other replacement project. Ubisoft’s January 2026 statement.
