Project Architect 2 is a Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge modpack built around automation, quests and ProjectE EMC progression. Install the same pack release on every client, use the matching official server-files archive for multiplayer, and decide between self-hosting and managed hosting based on how much networking and maintenance you want to handle. CurseForge currently lists version 6.0, uploaded September 20, 2025, but release listings can change, so confirm the file version immediately before installing.
Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
What Project Architect 2 is
Project Architect 2 is a ChosenArchitect pack for Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.1 running on Forge. Its progression is designed around turning resources into automated production rather than repeatedly mining every ingredient by hand. ProjectE supplies the EMC (energy-matter currency) system, while quests provide a route through the pack’s technology and automation milestones.

ChosenArchitect describes the project as "Dive into a meticulously crafted modpack focused on automation and EMC generation, allowing you to transform raw materials into valuable resources effortlessly with ProjectE custom automation challenges!" That description explains the central loop: learn a machine chain, automate inputs and power, then use EMC to reduce repetitive gathering while you pursue more ambitious systems.
The major systems named by the pack
- ProjectE and EMC: Resources you have learned can be assigned EMC values and converted through the pack’s progression rules. This makes resource knowledge and automation more important than maintaining a large manual mining routine.
- Quests: Structured objectives point new players toward useful machines, power networks and staged automation goals.
- Industrial Foregoing: A machinery and processing path for farms, resource production and industrial automation.
- Mekanism: A large technology system covering machinery, power and increasingly advanced processing.
- Thermal Series: Additional machines and energy infrastructure for processing and factory-style production.
- Draconic Evolution: A high-tier technology route for late progression and powerful equipment or infrastructure.
- RFTools Dimensions: Tools for creating and exploring dimensions that can support resource and progression objectives.
These components are the pack’s stated feature set; the exact balance, recipes and quest text belong to the installed release. Treat the quest book and in-game recipe viewer as the authority for the version you actually run.

Version, Minecraft edition and Forge requirement
Project Architect 2 targets Minecraft 1.20.1 and Forge. A vanilla 1.20.1 profile, a Fabric profile or a different Forge Minecraft version is not an interchangeable installation. The loader, Minecraft version, mod list and configuration files must all agree.
CurseForge lists Project Architect 2 version 6.0 as the latest release shown for Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge, uploaded on September 20, 2025. The same file listing includes Project Architect 2 6.0 Server Files under Minecraft 1.20 server packs. Because a project page can receive a newer release or change its recommended files, check the current file listing before downloading and record the exact version in your server notes.
Before installing: a compatibility checklist
- Use a Minecraft Java Edition launcher that can create a Forge modpack profile.
- Select the exact Project Architect 2 release you intend to play; do not let one player silently update to a newer profile.
- For a server, download the matching official server-files archive rather than assembling individual mods from memory.
- Keep a copy of the pack version, server archive name and configuration backups so you can roll back after an update.
- Reserve enough storage for the server files, world saves, logs and at least one separate backup copy.
- If friends will connect from outside your home, decide in advance who controls the router and firewall.
How to install Project Architect 2 on a client
- Install or open your modpack launcher. Choose a launcher that supports Forge profiles and the Project Architect 2 project. Sign in with the Minecraft account that owns Java Edition.
- Find the project. Search for Project Architect 2 and select the Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge profile. Confirm that the displayed release matches the server or the release your group agreed to use.
- Create the profile. Let the launcher download the mod list, configs and required Forge components. Avoid manually adding or removing mods while you are establishing a known-good installation.
- Start the profile once. The first launch can take longer while Forge builds caches and the pack creates its configuration files. Stop the game only after it reaches the title screen or completes its initial setup.
- Check the profile details. Verify that the launcher reports Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge and the intended Project Architect 2 release. A different loader or version will produce connection errors later.
- Open a test world. Create a temporary world, open the quest book and confirm that the expected machines and recipe systems load. This separates a broken client installation from a later server or network problem.
Do not copy a single-player world into a server until the client profile starts cleanly. If the launcher reports a missing dependency, a mismatched mod or a failed download, repair or reinstall that profile before changing server files.

How to set up a Project Architect 2 server
The reliable route is to use the official server-files archive for the same release installed by clients. The archive normally contains the Forge server components and the pack’s server-side files; follow its included instructions rather than substituting a generic Forge installer.
- Choose the release. Write down the exact Project Architect 2 version you will run. For the currently listed release, that is version 6.0 for Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge, but verify the live listing when you download it.
- Download the matching server files. In the project’s files, select the server-files archive whose version matches the client profile. Keep the original archive in a separate folder so you can reproduce the installation if the server directory is damaged.
- Extract to a dedicated directory. Use a short, dedicated path such as a folder named for the pack and version. Do not mix these files with another modpack’s server, world or Java launch scripts.
- Install and launch Forge as the archive directs. Run the included installer or launch script according to the archive’s instructions. The first run may stop while generating files; that is expected when a new server directory is being initialized.
- Accept the Minecraft EULA. Open the generated
eula.txt, read the license and set the EULA value to accept only if you agree. Start the server again after saving the change. - Set server properties. Edit
server.propertiesfor the group. Set a recognizable server name or MOTD, choose the difficulty, decide whether to use a whitelist, and tune view distance and other values for the available host. Change one setting at a time while testing. - Secure administrative access. Use the server console to grant operator permissions only to trusted administrators. If the group is private, enable the whitelist and add each player’s exact Minecraft name before sharing the address.
- Test locally. Connect from the same computer or local network first. Confirm that the world loads, the quest book appears and no server log reports missing mods or registry mismatches.
- Configure outside access when self-hosting. Allow the server application through the host firewall. If friends are connecting over the internet, configure the router to forward the server port to the computer running Forge, then test from a connection outside your home network.
- Create backups before inviting players. Stop the server cleanly, copy the world and configuration files to separate storage, and schedule recurring backups. Keep at least one backup that is not stored in the live server directory.
- Document the installation. Record the pack version, Forge files, Java launch command, server port, whitelist administrators and backup location. This turns a one-person setup into something another trusted administrator can recover.
What to configure in server.properties
The right values depend on your group and hardware, but these are the decisions worth making deliberately:
- Server name or MOTD: Identify the world and its pack version so players do not join the wrong instance.
- Difficulty: Choose the level that fits your group’s preferred survival pressure.
- Whitelist: Enable it for a private friends’ server and maintain the list when players change names.
- View distance: Lower values can reduce the amount of terrain each player requires the server to keep active; raise it only after the group has tested performance.
- Other gameplay settings: Set them before the first serious play session and record changes, because changing rules later can affect an established world.
How friends join your world
Every player must install the same Project Architect 2 profile and pack version as the server. This is the first check whenever one person can join and another cannot. The matching requirement includes the Minecraft version, Forge loader, mod files and pack configuration, not merely the project name.

- Send friends the exact release number and the launcher profile instructions.
- Have each player launch the profile once in single-player so required files are present.
- Give them the server address only after the local server test succeeds. For a home server, the address used on the local network may differ from the public address used by remote players.
- If a whitelist is enabled, add each player’s exact account name from the server console.
- Ask a remote player to test the connection while you watch the server console. The timestamp and error text are more useful than a general report that the server is broken.
Troubleshooting connection and startup failures
Forge or mod mismatch
Symptoms include a list of missing mods, incompatible versions, registry errors or a disconnect during the loading screen. Compare the client’s displayed Minecraft, Forge and Project Architect 2 versions with the server’s files. Reinstall the client profile from the matching release instead of copying random mods into it.
The server stops during first launch
Read the console from the first error upward and confirm that the EULA was accepted. Make sure the launch script is being run from the server directory, that the archive was fully extracted and that the Java runtime meets the Forge archive’s requirements. Do not delete the world as a first response; preserve the log and configuration so the cause can be identified.
Local players connect but remote players cannot
The pack is probably running, so focus on reachability: check the host firewall, confirm the router forwards the server port to the correct local computer, verify that the server is listening on the expected interface and test from a genuinely external network. A local address will not normally work for a friend outside your home.

A player is rejected despite having the pack
Check the whitelist name, then compare the player’s profile release with the server release. A launcher may have updated a profile automatically while the server remained on the older files. Keep a written version number in the server welcome message to make this mismatch obvious.
Lag appears after adding machines or dimensions
Record when the lag begins and which machines, farms or dimensions are active. Review view distance and other server properties before removing content. Take a backup, change one setting, restart cleanly and compare the result; this preserves a rollback point if the change makes performance worse.

Start with quests, not a random machine catalog
The quest structure is the practical onboarding path. Follow its early objectives to learn the intended power, processing and storage sequence, then branch into the technology line that fits your play style. Quests are especially useful in multiplayer because they give a group a shared next milestone instead of leaving each player to guess which mod is safe to introduce first.

Use ProjectE after establishing a production base
EMC can remove repetitive resource gathering, but automation remains the pack’s defining challenge. Build reliable input, processing and power lines before treating EMC as a universal shortcut. Keep valuable materials and progression items organized so the conversion system supports the factory rather than replacing every reason to expand it.
Combine technology systems deliberately
Industrial Foregoing and Mekanism cover broad automation and processing needs. Thermal Series offers additional machine and energy options, while Draconic Evolution represents a later high-tech route. RFTools Dimensions can open dimension-based resource and exploration possibilities. Check recipes and quest requirements in your installed release before committing to a large build, because pack authors can adjust integrations between versions.
Self-hosting versus managed Forge hosting
Self-hosting costs no recurring hosting subscription, but you become responsible for the entire service: Java and Forge maintenance, updates, backups, firewall rules, router configuration, security, monitoring and uptime. Managed hosting shifts much of that operational work to a provider and is often the faster route for a group that wants to play without administering a home server.
| Decision area | Self-hosted Project Architect 2 | Managed Forge hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Setup effort | Download the server archive, install Forge, edit properties and configure network access yourself. | Provider automation can create a server and expose panel controls with fewer manual infrastructure steps. |
| Control | Direct access to server files, launch scripts, configs, worlds and backups. | Control is mediated through the provider’s panel and file tools, subject to its policies. |
| Reliability work | You schedule backups, apply updates, monitor the process and recover from outages. | Provider tooling may simplify backups, restarts and monitoring, but you still need to verify that those features cover this pack. |
| Cost model | Uses your hardware, internet connection and electricity; costs vary with equipment and usage. | Uses a recurring hosting fee; the price depends on the provider’s plan and selected resources. |
| Compatibility check | You can install the exact Project Architect 2 1.20.1 Forge server files if your machine supports them. | Confirm before paying that the provider accepts the exact 1.20.1 Forge server archive, allows custom modpack files and supports the player capacity you need. |
Choose self-hosting when
- You or a trusted friend can maintain a Java and Forge service.
- The host has a stable connection and you can configure firewall and router access.
- You want unrestricted access to world files, scripts and configuration.
- You are willing to test updates and maintain independent backups.
Choose managed hosting when
- You want to start playing quickly without exposing a home network.
- No one in the group wants responsibility for patching, monitoring and recovery.
- The provider confirms support for the exact Project Architect 2 1.20.1 Forge server files.
- The plan offers backups, file access and enough capacity for your actual group rather than only a generic modded-Minecraft label.
There is no authoritative tested minimum RAM, CPU recommendation or maximum player count published for this pack in the available documentation. Do not treat a generic host plan, a launcher default or an anecdotal number as a validated requirement. Ask a host for current specifications, then test with your intended player count and automation load. Label any local estimate as planning guidance, not as an official minimum.
Updating without losing a world
- Read the new release notes and confirm that a matching server-files archive exists.
- Stop the server normally and make a complete backup of the world, configs, scripts and current server archive.
- Install the new release in a separate directory instead of overwriting the working server.
- Apply only the configuration changes required by the new archive, keeping a copy of your previous settings.
- Start the new server with the backed-up world and inspect logs before inviting players.
- Have every client update to the same release. Keep the old directory untouched until the group has verified machines, quests, dimensions and player inventories.
If the update causes a crash or broken world behavior, stop the new server and restore the backup to the previous release. A rollback is much safer than repeatedly editing a damaged live world.
Quick Recap
