How handling and controls feel
There is no single control verdict that applies to everyone. The official US PlayStation Store page promotes both controller handling and wheel support, but GameSpot’s review criticizes gamepad support, while PC Gamer describes wheel driving with assists off as demanding. The difference matters: a player seeking approachable arcade-style steering may have a harder time than one prepared to tune settings and learn each car. A wheel is optional, not mandatory. Consider it if you already enjoy sim-racing control and want more tactile feedback; it will not by itself resolve complaints about AI, bugs, or handling consistency. If you play on a controller, allow time to adjust control settings and expectations rather than assuming the store’s controller-friendly description settles the question.

What makes the racing sandbox distinctive
Bandai Namco’s 2017 announcement described a wide-ranging motorsport package with “over 170 cars and 60+ tracks,” alongside disciplines such as ice, dirt, snow, and mud. Those are the publisher’s announced figures and scope, not an independently audited count for every edition or platform. Read Bandai Namco’s 2017 announcement.
The same announcement highlighted LiveTrack 3.0, dynamic weather and track conditions, time-of-day changes, and tire grip and wear systems. These are announced game features; they should not be taken as proof that every condition behaves like real-world motorsport. The appeal is the way changing conditions and race options invite players to experiment with strategy as well as driving.

PC Gamer’s later feature describes the race creator’s controls for race length, weather, tire wear, fuel use, damage, and pit stops. That flexibility helps explain the game’s lasting sandbox appeal: players can shape an event around the kind of challenge they want, rather than relying only on a fixed series of races.

Availability is not established for every store, region, platform, or edition. PC Gamer’s current racing-games feature says the game is no longer purchasable new on Steam, but the available information does not establish a complete region-by-region digital or DLC status. The official US PlayStation Store has a PS4 product page, but a listing is not proof that every account or region can buy it. Check the store for your platform and country before planning a purchase.

If considering a physical PS4 or Xbox One copy, verify the exact edition, region compatibility, seller, disc condition, and what content is included. A 2017 publisher announcement described digital editions and a Season Pass, but that historical merchandising information does not confirm current DLC availability or that a particular used disc includes it.
