RGG Studio’s Project Century is now officially titled STRANGER THAN HEAVEN, a single-player action-adventure scheduled for January 15, 2027. SEGA’s announced platforms are PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming and Steam; Xbox Wire also says the game will be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one. Launch plans and store listings can change, so check the relevant storefront closer to release.
What happened to Project Century?
Project Century was the earlier codename for STRANGER THAN HEAVEN, the upcoming action-adventure from RGG Studio. SEGA announced the final title, story, settings, combat overview and release information in 2026. The publisher lists the game for one player.

What is the story about?
The story begins in San Francisco in 1915 with Makoto Daito, a teenager of Japanese and American heritage: his father is American and his mother Japanese. He travels to Japan, where the story follows him across five decades and five historical settings. SEGA frames the locations as settings inspired by Japan’s past.

The period-to-period structure makes the game’s setting more than a single snapshot of postwar Japan: Makoto’s journey moves through changing cities and eras. Xbox Wire’s event recap says Makoto also has a talent for music. SEGA’s announcement describes show-business elements in which players take the role of a showman, though it does not detail every activity involved.
How does combat work?
SEGA’s overview presents combat as an action system that combines weapons with other ways of fighting. More specific control details come from Xbox Wire’s June hands-on preview of a demo, so they should be read as a look at that build rather than a complete list of final-game mechanics.

In the demo, light and heavy attacks were mapped to the left and right shoulder buttons and triggers. The preview also describes selecting weapons, grappling, blocking, parrying and dodging. Together, those details suggest a combat loop that mixes direct attacks with defensive timing and close-quarters options; the final implementation may differ.

SEGA has announced Standard and Deluxe digital editions, plus a physical PS5 edition and a Collector’s Edition. The Standard edition is the base game; the Deluxe edition includes the base game and bonus content. The Collector’s Edition is a physical PS5 package with collectibles and digital extras.
