Project Helix is confirmed as Xbox’s next-generation first-party console, designed to play Xbox console and PC games. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma was later reported as describing a “great family of devices for Project Helix,” but the report does not name those devices. Xbox’s broader ecosystem includes mobile gaming; that does not confirm a Helix-branded mobile or handheld device.
What Xbox has officially confirmed about Project Helix
In an Xbox Wire post summarizing his March 11, 2026 GDC keynote, Jason Ronald, Xbox’s Vice President of Next Generation, described Project Helix as the company’s next-generation first-party console. He said it is designed to play Xbox console and PC games. Xbox’s GDC announcement is the clearest official description of the hardware’s purpose.
Xbox also said Helix is powered by a custom AMD system-on-chip and co-designed for the next generation of DirectX and FSR. The company planned to begin shipping hardware alpha versions to developers in 2027. That is a development milestone, not a consumer release date.
What the “family of devices” wording means—and does not mean
On August 29, 2026, GamesRadar reported that Xbox CEO Asha Sharma had referred to “a great family of devices for Project Helix.” The phrase suggests a broader framing than a single console, but the report does not identify any additional Helix products. It is attributed reporting, not a detailed Xbox product announcement. GamesRadar’s report does not establish that the family includes a handheld, phone, or other specific form factor.

Xbox mobile gaming is not proof of a Helix handheld
Xbox’s ecosystem strategy spans console, PC, mobile, and cloud. In its April 2026 strategy message, Xbox described these as parts of a connected player experience; a June employee message likewise discussed usage across console, PC, mobile, and streaming. Those statements concern Xbox’s wider ecosystem, not a list of Project Helix hardware types. Xbox’s April strategy message and June’s employee message do not confirm a Helix mobile device.
That distinction matters for players hoping to take Helix games on the go. Xbox may support mobile play through its broader services and devices, but the available announcements do not say that a Helix-branded handheld or phone is planned. No specific Helix screen, portability design, or mobile hardware has been identified in these sources.

What remains unknown
The confirmed description is not yet a product lineup. The sources establish no named Helix device options, consumer price, launch date, detailed specifications, disc-drive plan, or accessory compatibility list. Without those details, there is no reliable basis for comparing a Helix console against a possible handheld or other model.
Xbox said more than 1,500 games and 500 development teams were part of Xbox Play Anywhere in its March 2026 announcement. That describes the Play Anywhere catalog and participating teams, not the Helix hardware lineup or a guarantee about how every title will perform on future devices.

Xbox also referred to more than 500 million players in its April 2026 company message. In June, it cited over 1 billion annual players and 72 billion hours across console, PC, mobile, and streaming; Xbox’s stated scope excludes much of China and some other properties. These are company-reported ecosystem figures, not Project Helix sales or device targets.

For the “family” description to become a concrete product claim, Xbox would need to identify the devices and explain what separates them. Useful details would include each form factor, supported game libraries, performance, price, screen and TV use, portability, and accessory compatibility. Until Xbox supplies those specifics, treat “family of devices” as reported framing rather than confirmation of a console-plus-mobile lineup.
