Post-launch updates have substantially changed handling and tyre models and continued work on AI-related systems. But patch notes and launch-period reports do not establish that the latest build’s physics are “mostly great” or that its AI is still “broken.” No current-build hands-on test is available here, so the fairest verdict is that the contrast is a legitimate question—not a proven present-day scorecard.
What is Project Motor Racing?
Project Motor Racing is a racing simulation developed by Straight4 Studios and published by GIANTS Software. Steam lists its release date as November 25, 2025. The publisher announced versions for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Steam’s listing and the publisher’s announcement and news index provide the product information.
The publisher’s 2025 launch announcement advertised a single-player career, online racing and mod support, alongside more than 70 cars, 10 racing classes and 27 track layouts. Those are launch-era publisher claims, not an independently verified count of what is available in the current build.
Are the physics mostly great?
The evidence available does not support a categorical verdict that the physics are “mostly great.” The game’s handling and tyre models have changed since launch, so a launch-period impression cannot automatically be applied to a later version. The official update index says Update 2.0, dated March 25, 2026, brought a substantive evolution of those models. That establishes that the driving systems were revised; it does not establish whether the result feels convincing, consistent or enjoyable across cars, input devices and hardware.

For a meaningful assessment, a current-build review would need to examine how the car responds through braking, corner entry and exits, how consistent that response is between cars and sessions, and how wheel or controller input changes the feel. The available evidence contains no independent hands-on test of those qualities in the latest build.
Was the AI broken at launch?
The studio publicly acknowledged launch-period shortcomings in AI awareness and behaviour. In a community message responding to player concerns, the Project Motor Racing development team wrote: “Speaking of AI, you have shown us numerous issues in our AI’s awareness and behaviour.” The same message said, “Our AI runs the same physics you drive with, and the complexity of that system is something we are still tuning.”

Those statements are useful evidence that the developers recognized problems and were still tuning the system at launch. The claim that AI uses the same physics as the player does not, by itself, show that opponents make good decisions, avoid collisions or race convincingly. The studio also cautioned that there was no simple “make AI better” switch, while saying it did not intend to settle for an unsatisfactory experience. These were launch-response statements, not an independent assessment of the AI or a description of its behaviour in the latest build. The studio’s community updates provide the original context.
What changed after launch?
The official update index records continuing changes after release, including updates to AI opponents, physics and handling, performance, stability and input-device support. Update 2.0’s handling and tyre-model changes are the clearest indication that driving behaviour did not remain fixed after launch. The index lists Hotfix 2.0.0.8 on June 26, 2026. The official news and update index records these dated changes.

Updates demonstrate ongoing development, not successful resolution. A patch note can say what was changed, but it cannot establish how often the AI still causes incidents or whether handling is now consistent on a given platform. The indexed history cited here runs through June 26, 2026; it should not be treated as proof that this is the newest available build at a later reading date.
What do players think?
Steam’s store page showed mixed user sentiment when accessed on October 8, 2026:
Rank #4
| Steam review snapshot | Result on October 8, 2026 | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| All-time | 44% positive from 1,162 reviews | Steam user reviews, not a critic score or controlled test |
| Recent (last 30 days) | 69% positive from 56 reviews | A smaller, time-limited Steam user sample |
These figures are volatile and platform-specific; they can change as reviews are added. They are not necessarily representative of console players or of every version and hardware setup. Steam publishes the live review figures on the game’s store page.
PlayStation Store reviews posted around launch include individual complaints about inconsistent physics, force feedback, frame rate and erratic AI. They illustrate the kinds of concerns some players raised, but a handful of user reports cannot establish how common those problems were. The PlayStation Store listing contains user reviews.

What would a reliable current review need to test?
To decide whether the original physics-versus-AI framing still fits, comparisons need to identify the conditions rather than treat all reports as equivalent. A useful review should record:
- Build and date: the game version tested and when, so launch impressions are not conflated with later patches.
- Platform and hardware: PC hardware tier or console, since the studio acknowledged launch-period inconsistencies on lower-spec machines.
- Input: controller or wheel, including the force-feedback device when applicable.
- Driving feel: whether handling is consistent across cars and situations, rather than relying on one short session.
- AI racecraft: awareness, responses to nearby cars and the frequency and circumstances of incidents across races.
- Reliability: performance and stability under the same conditions used to judge handling and AI.
- Modes: the state of career and online features, separately from the quality of driving systems.
Official materials refer to force feedback and input-device support, but the available sources do not verify compatibility for any specific wheel model. Check the wheel maker’s current compatibility list and the relevant platform and game support before buying. The game’s official materials and update notices are the appropriate place to check for published support information.
