Spoiler warning: This article covers the ending of Prologue to Tau, its Vessel sequence, Praghasa, and the setup for Warframe’s Tau storyline.
Prologue to Tau ends when the Vessel delivers the material it gathered to Praghasa, the Sentient mothership intended to carry the Tenno toward Tau. It is deliberately a setup rather than the conclusion of the Tau expedition: the crossing itself does not happen in this quest, and the larger journey remains for later content.

What Prologue to Tau is
Prologue to Tau is a permanent Warframe quest added to the Codex on October 15, 2026. Digital Extremes describes it as a new quest connected to the Tau journey. The word “prologue” is important: the quest establishes the machinery, characters and immediate objective needed for a future crossing, but it does not take the player into Tau or resolve the conflict waiting there.

The quest is part of Warframe’s continuing story after The Hex and The Old Peace. It is also separate from Epoch Operation: Taubound. Although both pieces of content concern Tau, they do different jobs: the prologue is a Codex quest with a narrative ending, while Taubound is a limited operation built around collecting resources, event rewards and daily dialogue.

How to unlock and start the quest
Required quests
You must complete both The Hex and The Old Peace. Neither requirement is optional. If the prologue does not appear in your Codex, check those two quest entries first rather than looking for a timed event node.
Where to find it
- Return to your Orbiter.
- Open the Codex.
- Select the Prologue Quest/Chapters entry.
- Choose Prologue to Tau to begin it.
The quest remains in the Codex after Epoch Operation: Taubound ends. Digital Extremes stated that it can be completed at your leisure, so missing the operation’s end date does not remove the prologue from your account.
Prologue to Tau quest route
The documented route moves through several locations before reaching the ending. Each stop answers a different practical question: who is preparing the crossing, where the preparation happens, and what Praghasa needs before it can be used.

1. The Dark Refractory conversation
The route begins in the Sanctum Anatomica’s Dark Refractory. The Operator and Drifter speak there, framing the quest as a shared effort rather than a mission assigned to only one of the two identities. This conversation is the narrative handoff into the preparation phase.
2. The memory sequence
After the conversation, the player is sent through a memory sequence. The sequence connects the immediate mission to the characters’ earlier experiences and gives the prologue its reflective middle section. It is not the final Tau destination; it is the transition between the Dark Refractory discussion and the physical preparations that follow.

3. Preparing a Vessel at Kronia Relay
The next major stop is Kronia Relay, where the player prepares a Vessel. This is the point at which the Vessel becomes an active part of the story rather than only a piece of background terminology. The preparation establishes the object or entity that will gather what Praghasa needs.
4. The Eris Dermacrust mission
From Kronia Relay, select the Eris Dermacrust node. During this mission, enemies are defeated so the Vessel can obtain material for Praghasa. The official Taubound description identifies the Eris resource as Moonflesh and explains that it is intended to provide fuel for the Tau crossing.
The important story function is not simply that enemies are cleared. The mission turns combat into preparation: the material collected on Eris is being accumulated for the mothership’s energy requirement.
5. Delivery to Praghasa
After the Vessel sequence, the Vessel offers what it gathered to Praghasa. That delivery is the quest’s closing action. The player is shown the handoff that makes the future crossing possible, but the quest stops before the ship carries the Tenno into Tau.
The ending explained
The ending is a launch-preparation beat. The Vessel has completed its immediate task, and Praghasa receives the gathered material. That confirms a practical relationship between the two: the Vessel collects or provides the needed resource, while Praghasa is the larger system meant to enable the journey.

Nothing in the ending confirms that the Tau expedition has already begun. It does not show the Tenno arriving in Tau, reveal what they find there, or close the historical conflict between the Tenno, the Sentients and the legacy of the Old War. Those events are outside the scope of this prologue.
This structure explains why the ending may feel brief. The quest is resolving its preparation objective, not pretending to resolve the destination. Its narrative payoff is the confirmation that the crossing has a usable plan and a defined energy requirement.
What the Vessel is doing
The Vessel’s role is operational as well as narrative. Once prepared at Kronia Relay, it goes to Eris Dermacrust and gathers the material that Praghasa requires. The ending then shows the Vessel presenting that material to the mothership.
In other words, the Vessel is not portrayed as the vehicle that replaces Praghasa. It is the agent that makes the vehicle’s departure possible. The quest uses the Vessel to give the player a direct task in the Tau setup: prepare it, send it to the resource mission, and complete the delivery.
The prologue introduces the player-controlled Vessel in this story role without treating the assignment as the whole Tau campaign. Its work is complete when Praghasa receives the gathered supply.

Who Praghasa is
Praghasa is presented as a Sentient mothership intended to take the Tenno toward Tau. The official event description says that opening the route requires extraordinary energy and asks players to collect Moonflesh on Eris to provide fuel. The prologue turns that event premise into a quest action by having the Vessel gather material and deliver it to Praghasa.
That makes Praghasa the enabling platform for the crossing, not merely a name attached to a resource objective. The mothership is the point toward which the preparation is directed, while the exact experience of travelling through the route and reaching Tau is still unrevealed by this quest.
Why Tau matters to Warframe’s lore
Tau is not an arbitrary new destination. It is the distant system where the Orokin sent the Sentients to terraform. The Sentients eventually returned from Tau and launched the conflict known as the Old War. That history is central to Warframe: it shaped the collapse of the Orokin empire and the circumstances that made the Tenno into weapons and survivors.
A quest that prepares a return to Tau therefore points back to the origin of the setting’s largest historical trauma. The prologue’s Eris mission may look like a resource-gathering step, but its destination gives that step unusual weight. The material is being collected to reopen a route toward the place from which the Sentients first came back to challenge the Orokin.

Prologue to Tau versus Epoch Operation: Taubound
The two releases are connected by subject matter but should not be treated as the same quest. Their differences determine where to look for story content and what remains available after the event period.
| Feature | Prologue to Tau | Epoch Operation: Taubound |
|---|---|---|
| Type | Permanent story quest in the Warframe Codex | Limited operation |
| Availability | Added October 15, 2026, and remains available after the operation ends | Scheduled to end November 17, 2026 |
| Access | Requires completion of The Hex and The Old Peace, then starts from the Orbiter Codex | Uses the operation’s own event access and activities |
| Primary activity | Follow the Vessel’s preparation route and deliver gathered material to Praghasa | Collect Moonflesh on Eris as fuel for the route to Tau |
| Story function | Sets up the crossing and ends at the delivery to Praghasa | Provides event context, rewards and daily dialogue |
| Rewards and dialogue | Its narrative content is separate from Taubound’s event rewards and dialogue | Event rewards and daily dialogue are not part of the prologue quest |
If you want the quest’s ending, use the Codex route. If you are looking for the operation’s rotating activities, rewards or daily conversations, those belong to Taubound instead.
What the ending leaves unresolved
The actual crossing
The prologue ends before Praghasa takes the Tenno through the route. The crossing is prepared, not shown.

Events in Tau
No destination-side mission or Tau expedition is included in this ending. The quest does not establish what location the Tenno will reach first or what immediate threat awaits there.
The larger historical reckoning
Tau’s connection to the Sentients and the Old War gives the setup its significance, but the prologue does not settle the consequences of returning to that system. Those implications remain open for subsequent story content.
The Vessel’s future assignments
The Vessel’s first demonstrated task is gathering and delivering material. The ending confirms that function without stating every later use for the Vessel.
