prxernsp.dll is a Proxifier Standard Edition networking component, not a Windows DLL. If Windows says it is missing, cannot be loaded, or crashes a game at prxernsp.dll+2177, repair or remove Proxifier instead of downloading a replacement DLL.
What this file actually does
Proxifier uses prxernsp.dll as a Winsock Name Space Provider. In practical terms, it helps Proxifier resolve host names through a configured proxy. Proxifier also installs a Winsock Layered Service Provider to capture and redirect TCP connections.

A genuine copy may be found in locations such as:
C:WindowsSystem32prxernsp.dll
C:WindowsSysWOW64prxernsp.dll
Despite its name, System32 is not proof that a file belongs to Microsoft. Third-party networking products can install components there. On 64-bit Windows, System32 normally contains 64-bit system components, while SysWOW64 commonly contains 32-bit components. That is why both copies can exist.

The filename alone does not prove that a particular copy is genuine. Its path, publisher, digital signature, and relationship to an installed Proxifier package all matter.

| Error remains after uninstalling Proxifier | A Winsock provider reference was left behind | Reinstall, properly remove the module, then reset Winsock if needed |
| File is in a strange user-writable folder | Possible impersonation or malware | Scan the file and system before restoring it |
The crash offset prxernsp.dll+2177 is a reported crash signature, not proof that the DLL itself is defective. It indicates that Proxifier’s namespace-provider code appeared in the call chain.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall Proxifier first
This is the most likely solution when Proxifier is installed or was recently updated.
If you have a legacy Proxifier installation
- Save any proxy rules or configuration you need.
- Open the Start menu.
- Expand the Proxifier program group.
- Select System Settings.
- Approve the administrator prompt.
- Use Check to inspect the Proxifier network module.
- If errors are found, select Repair.
- On 64-bit Windows, check and repair both the 32-bit and 64-bit subsystems when the tool offers those choices.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the affected program again.
A successful repair should remove the missing-file message and restore Proxifier name resolution. If the program still fails, return to System Settings and use Diagnose to check for a Winsock conflict.
If the repair tool is unavailable
- Open Settings with
Windows + I. - Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find Proxifier.
- Select the three-dot menu and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows after the uninstall completes.
- Download the current installer from the official Proxifier website. The vendor’s current package is named
ProxifierSetup.exeand supports Windows x86, x64, and ARM. - Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Complete the installation.
- Restart Windows once more and test the affected application.
Do not mix an old 32-bit file with a newer 64-bit installation. Do not copy a file from another computer unless an administrator is restoring a verified file from the exact official installer.
If you no longer need Proxifier, leave it uninstalled. Removing the product is safer than keeping a broken network provider active.
Fix 2: Remove Proxifier cleanly if you no longer use it
Deleting prxernsp.dll manually is the wrong order of operations. The file can be referenced by Winsock even after it is deleted, leaving Windows with a broken provider entry.
Use the normal uninstall path:
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Proxifier.
- Select its menu and choose Uninstall.
- Follow the removal wizard.
- Restart Windows.
If it is not listed there:
- Press
Windows + R. - Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select Proxifier in Programs and Features.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
If uninstalling fails, reinstall Proxifier from its official installer first. A fresh installation can restore the missing repair tools and allow the network module to be removed correctly.
Fix 3: Repair Proxifier’s Winsock configuration
Proxifier’s System Settings utility can install, uninstall, repair, check, diagnose, and reset its network module. Use those functions before making a system-wide change.

If the catalog is damaged or a previous uninstall left a reference behind, reset Winsock:
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Enter:
netsh winsock reset
- Wait for the command to confirm that the Winsock catalog was reset.
- Restart Windows.
This can remove or disable customizations installed by third-party VPNs, proxies, traffic filters, firewalls, and network monitors. You may need to reinstall or reconfigure those products afterward.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
After restarting, reinstall Proxifier if you still need it. If the error returns immediately, temporarily disable other proxy, VPN, packet-capture, firewall, or traffic-filtering software and run Proxifier’s Check, Repair, and Diagnose functions again.
Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may quarantine an old, modified, unsigned, or suspicious Proxifier copy. Do not restore the file just because an application reports it as missing.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Open the detection involving
prxernsp.dll. - Check the full file path, detection name, publisher, and action taken.
- If the file came from an official Proxifier installation and the detection is clearly a false positive, follow the available restore or allow options.
- If the path is unexpected, the publisher is absent, or the software came from a pirated bundle, do not restore it.
- Remove the suspicious application and run a full scan.
Microsoft’s Protection History guidance explains how to review these detections. Reinstalling Proxifier from its official package is preferable to restoring an unknown quarantined copy.
A genuine file should fit the surrounding installation: it should be associated with Proxifier, appear in an expected location, and have a valid publisher signature where the installed release provides one. A copy in a temporary folder, download directory, or random application folder deserves additional scrutiny.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix 5: Check architecture and related versions
A 32-bit program may use the 32-bit Proxifier subsystem, while a 64-bit program may use the 64-bit subsystem. A partial upgrade can repair one and leave the other damaged.
Do not replace:
- A 32-bit DLL with a 64-bit DLL
- A current Proxifier file with an old public file record
prxernsp.dllwithout its matching Proxifier components- One release’s file with another release’s
prxerdrv.dll
Use Proxifier’s System Settings tool to repair both subsystems on 64-bit Windows. Public file databases may list old versions, but those records are not a substitute for verifying the installed vendor package.
Fix 6: Check for broader driver or network conflicts
prxernsp.dll is not normally repaired through Device Manager, but a network driver or filter can conflict with Proxifier.

To inspect network adapters:
- Press
Windows + X. - Select Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Look for a warning icon.
- Right-click the affected adapter and select Properties.
- Read the device status on the General tab.
- Use Update driver only when you have a trusted driver source.
- Restart Windows and retest.
Do not uninstall a working network adapter merely because this DLL is missing. First identify whether the failure began after installing a VPN, firewall, packet monitor, network optimizer, or driver filter.

Proxifier remains the definitive repair when the missing file belongs to its installation.
Windows Features is not the right place to restore this file. Turning on .NET, DirectPlay, or another optional component will not reinstall a Proxifier Winsock provider.
Fix 7: Use DISM and SFC only for wider Windows damage
SFC and DISM do not normally reinstall third-party Proxifier files. Use them when other Windows components are also failing, system files are damaged, or Windows repair tools report broader corruption.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Repair or reinstall Proxifier afterward if
prxernsp.dllis still missing.
DISM repairs the Windows component store, while SFC checks protected Windows files. Neither command should be expected to supply a missing Proxifier DLL.
If repeatedly hunting through repair commands is taking longer than identifying the underlying corruption, Outbyte PC Repair can scan and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies issues, while repairs are performed by the full version. When Proxifier owns the missing file, reinstalling Proxifier remains the definitive fix.

If the problem began after installing software, a driver, or a network filter:
- Press
Windows + R. - Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Choose a restore point from before the change.
- Review the affected programs.
- Start System Restore and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore is useful when the timing is clear, but it does not replace a clean Proxifier reinstall.
On Windows 11, if Windows components remain damaged, open Settings > System > Recovery and look for Fix problems using Windows Update and Reinstall now. This reinstalls the current Windows version while preserving apps, files, and settings when the option is available.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Should you run regsvr32?
Usually, no.
This command:
regsvr32 prxernsp.dll
is intended for DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. prxernsp.dll is installed as part of Proxifier’s Winsock namespace-provider configuration, not as an ordinary self-registering COM library.
Running regsvr32 may produce a message that DllRegisterServer was not found. That does not repair the missing file or restore Proxifier’s Winsock registration. Use Proxifier’s installer and System Settings tool instead. Microsoft’s regsvr32 documentation explains the command’s intended use.

Do not download prxernsp.dll separately
Random DLL download sites can provide:
- Malware using a familiar filename
- The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture
- An incompatible Proxifier release
- A file with no matching Winsock registration
- A damaged or tampered binary
Copying a downloaded file into System32, SysWOW64, or a game folder often leaves the real problem untouched. It can also make later diagnosis harder.
Use the official Proxifier installer, or uninstall Proxifier if you no longer need it. If antivirus flagged the file, verify its path and publisher before considering any restoration.

FAQ
Is prxernsp.dll a Windows system file?
No. It is associated with Proxifier Standard Edition. Its presence in System32 does not make it a Microsoft component.
Why is it in System32?
Proxifier’s networking module integrates with Winsock, so older installations placed its 64-bit component in a system directory. The 32-bit component commonly appears in SysWOW64 on 64-bit Windows.
Can FiveM cause this DLL error?
FiveM can expose the problem when Proxifier or another Winsock component conflicts with the game. Test with Proxifier disabled or uninstalled before repairing FiveM itself.
Should I delete the file?
Not as a first step. Deleting it can leave a broken Winsock reference. Uninstall or repair Proxifier normally.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Is this a Visual C++ or DirectX problem?
There is no verified reason to treat prxernsp.dll as a Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET runtime file. Identify and repair Proxifier first.
What if Proxifier is already gone?
Reinstall it, use System Settings to remove its network module, uninstall it normally, restart, and use netsh winsock reset if the catalog still contains a broken reference.
How do I know whether my copy is genuine?
Check that it belongs to a Proxifier installation, is in an expected path, has a consistent publisher signature, and came from the official package. A filename by itself is not authentication.
