1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsprxyinet.dll is an old Autodesk application DLL, not a normal Windows system file. The strongest public association is AutoCAD 2002, where prxyinet.dll belongs to the PrxyInet Dynamic Link Library component.
If AutoCAD or another older Autodesk program reports that prxyinet.dll is missing, the correct fix is to repair or reinstall the Autodesk product that originally installed it. Copying a DLL into C:WindowsSystem32, registering it with regsvr32, or downloading a replacement from a random DLL site usually creates more problems than it solves.
What the prxyinet.dll error means
You may see wording such as:
- “This application failed to start because prxyinet.dll was not found.”
- “The program can’t start because prxyinet.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The file prxyinet.dll is missing or corrupted.”
- “Error loading prxyinet.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Cannot find prxyinet.dll.”
These messages are commonly reported for this file, but the exact wording depends on the Autodesk program and Windows version.
The error generally means one of four things:
- The Autodesk installation is incomplete or damaged.
- Antivirus software quarantined the DLL.
- The wrong Autodesk release is being started on a newer Windows installation.
prxyinet.dllexists, but another dependency that it needs is missing.
The file is identified in public inventories as a 32-bit Win32 Autodesk component. Do not assume that a file from another AutoCAD release, a different Autodesk product, or a 64-bit package will work.

#1 Best Overall
Fix 1: Repair the Autodesk installation
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
This is the safest and most likely fix because prxyinet.dll is an application-private file. The repair process restores missing program files without asking you to guess where the DLL belongs.
- Close AutoCAD and every other Autodesk application.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- In Programs and Features, find the Autodesk product that fails to start.
- Select it and click Uninstall/Change.
- If an Autodesk maintenance window appears, choose Repair.
- Follow the prompts and allow the process to finish.
- Restart Windows.
- Start the Autodesk program again.
A successful repair should let the application open without the prxyinet.dll message. The restored file should normally be placed in the Autodesk program’s own installation directory, not in a Windows system folder.
If Repair is unavailable or fails
Repeat the same process and choose Reinstall instead.
A reinstall replaces the application files and can repair associated installation entries. It may require the original installation media or an authorized Autodesk installer. For an old release, the product may not appear in a current Autodesk Account. In that case, use the original licensed media, an authorized archive, or Autodesk support.
Do not install a newer Autodesk product merely because it is available. A newer release may not provide the exact file or support the application that is producing the error.
Fix 2: Confirm which program is calling the file
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
Before changing files, identify the application that produces the error. This prevents you from repairing the wrong Autodesk installation.
- Note the title bar of the error window.
- Look at the text near the error for the application name.
- Right-click the shortcut you normally use.
- Select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, check Target.
- Note the folder containing the executable.
- Open that folder in File Explorer.
- Search the folder and its subfolders for
prxyinet.dll.
If the DLL is present beside the Autodesk executable but Windows still reports that it cannot be found, the message may actually refer to a missing dependency. In that case, repair the complete Autodesk installation rather than copying another DLL beside it.
If the file is absent, continue with the repair or reinstall steps. If the shortcut points to an obsolete backup, migrated drive, or manually copied program folder, remove that shortcut and launch the properly installed Autodesk product instead.
Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
Security software can remove or quarantine an old DLL even when the rest of the Autodesk installation remains intact.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an entry containing
prxyinet.dll. - Expand the entry and check its original location.
- Restore it only if it was inside the legitimate Autodesk installation folder.
- Run a full scan.
- Repair or reinstall the Autodesk product afterward.
If another security product is installed, open its quarantine or detection history instead.
Do not restore a file simply because its name matches. A DLL in a temporary folder, a download folder, or an unknown application directory should not be trusted. If security software repeatedly removes the file, stop trying to force it back and obtain a clean Autodesk installer.

Fix 4: Reinstall from an authorized Autodesk source
Time needed: 20 minutes to several hours
Use this route when repair cannot find its source files or the Autodesk installation is badly damaged.
Recommended Free Tools
- Uninstall the affected Autodesk product from Control Panel → Programs and Features.
- Restart Windows.
- Sign in to your Autodesk Account and open All Products and Services, if the product is listed there.
- Select the correct product, release, platform, and language.
- Download the installer through Autodesk’s account or another authorized Autodesk channel.
- Run the installer as an administrator.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Complete the installation.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the program from its newly installed shortcut.
Very old products may not be available in a current account. AutoCAD 2002 belongs to an obsolete software generation and was associated with the Windows XP era. Its operation on Windows 10 or Windows 11 is not guaranteed.
If the installer will not run on modern Windows, do not solve that problem by downloading prxyinet.dll separately. First determine whether the application itself is compatible. You may need original installation media, an authorized legacy installer, Autodesk support, or a supported replacement product.
Fix 5: Check the DLL location and architecture
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
prxyinet.dll is publicly identified as a 32-bit Autodesk application component. That matters even on 64-bit Windows.
A 32-bit Autodesk program normally loads its 32-bit private DLL from the application directory or one of its supported subdirectories. It does not need the file placed in C:WindowsSystem32.
Remember that on 64-bit Windows:
C:WindowsSystem32is generally used for 64-bit system components.C:WindowsSysWOW64contains many 32-bit Windows components.- Neither folder is the normal destination for this Autodesk application DLL.
Do not copy the file into either location by default. Doing so can create version conflicts and conceal the broken Autodesk installation.
To check the expected location:
- Right-click the Autodesk shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Click Open File Location.
- Look for
prxyinet.dllin that folder. - Right-click the file if it exists.
- Select Properties and inspect the Details tab.
- Compare the publisher and product information with the installed Autodesk product.
Public file inventories report an old version and approximate size for this file, but those details are not universal for every installation. Do not reject a legitimate file solely because its version or size differs from an online listing.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only if other programs are also failing
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
Windows repair commands are secondary here. prxyinet.dll is not established as a protected Windows system file, so System File Checker will not normally restore it.
Use DISM first, then SFC, as Microsoft recommends.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the command to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the Autodesk program.
Success means DISM or SFC reports that it repaired Windows component files, followed by improved operation. If SFC reports that no integrity violations were found, that does not prove the Autodesk installation is healthy. It may simply mean that Windows does not own prxyinet.dll.

Fix 7: Check drivers only when the Autodesk program has broader startup failures
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
A graphics driver is not the known owner of prxyinet.dll, and updating a driver will not normally replace it. Check drivers only if the Autodesk program also crashes, displays incorrectly, or fails after a Windows or hardware change.
Use Device Manager
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics adapter.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Check the driver date and provider.
- Select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
For a manufacturer-specific update, use the computer or graphics-card manufacturer’s official support page. Do not use a driver package that is not intended for your hardware.

When several devices have stale drivers and manually checking each model is becoming guesswork, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and show which drivers need attention; the driver installation feature requires the full version, and it does not replace repairing the Autodesk installation.

Time needed: 10–20 minutes
Permissions or profile damage can prevent an otherwise complete installation from loading its private DLL.
Run the application as administrator
- Right-click the Autodesk shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program as an administrator.
- Click Apply, then OK.
- Start the program.
If this works, the installation or its data folders may have restrictive permissions. Do not permanently weaken permissions on Windows folders. Repair the Autodesk installation and review the program’s documented data locations instead.
Test another Windows account
- Open Settings.
- Select Accounts.
- Choose Other users.
- Select Add account.
- Create a local test account.
- Sign in to that account.
- Start the Autodesk program.
If it works only in the new account, the original profile may be damaged. Move user data to the working profile rather than copying DLLs into system directories.
Why regsvr32 usually does not fix prxyinet.dll
Do not start with:
regsvr32 prxyinet.dll
regsvr32 is for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general command for making a missing application DLL available.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
A normal application component may produce an error such as:
The module was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found.
That result does not mean the file is bad. It means the DLL was not designed for that registration method.
The correct sequence is to repair the Autodesk installation and restore the matching file and dependencies together.
Why random DLL downloads are a bad fix
Avoid downloading prxyinet.dll from an unauthenticated DLL site. A standalone download can be:
- Malware or a modified executable.
- The wrong release for your Autodesk product.
- The wrong architecture.
- Missing required dependencies.
- A file that works only when copied into an unsafe location.
- A replacement that hides a damaged or incomplete installation.
Manual copying is appropriate only in a controlled recovery situation where a verified backup or original Autodesk installer provides the exact matching file. Even then, return it to the original Autodesk program directory and scan the complete installation.
Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET as the first response. There is no established evidence that prxyinet.dll is one of those runtime files. Install a runtime only when the Autodesk installer or a clearly identified dependency specifically requires it.
Rank #4
Causes and the matching fix
| Likely cause | Best response |
|---|---|
| Damaged or incomplete Autodesk installation | Run Repair, then Reinstall if necessary |
| Antivirus quarantine | Verify the original Autodesk path, restore only when trusted, then repair |
| Old product on modern Windows | Use an authorized installer and assess compatibility |
| Wrong Autodesk release or mixed files | Remove mismatched files and reinstall one complete release |
| Missing dependency | Repair the full product instead of copying more DLLs |
| Failed migration or disk damage | Check the installation drive and reinstall from clean media |
| Windows component corruption | Run DISM, then SFC |
| User-profile permissions | Test administrator access and a new profile |
What to do when AutoCAD 2002 will not run on Windows 11
AutoCAD 2002 is an old 32-bit application. A missing prxyinet.dll message may be only the visible symptom of a larger compatibility problem.
If reinstalling the correct product does not work:
- Confirm that the installer is legitimate and complete.
- Install it into its intended application folder.
- Right-click the program shortcut and select Properties.
- Open Compatibility.
- Test an appropriate older Windows compatibility mode.
- Run the program as administrator for testing.
- Check the Autodesk application error in Event Viewer.
- Test whether the program works in a supported older Windows environment.
- Consider moving to a currently supported Autodesk release if the old program cannot operate reliably.
Compatibility mode is not a guarantee. Windows Update may improve general operating-system behavior, but it will not normally supply an Autodesk application DLL.
Verification checklist
The repair is complete when:
- The Autodesk product starts without the missing-file message.
- The shortcut points to the intended installation.
prxyinet.dll, if required, is in the Autodesk program directory.- The file came from an authorized installer or verified backup.
- Antivirus no longer reports an unexplained quarantine event.
- You did not copy the DLL into
System32orSysWOW64. - You did not use
regsvr32unless Autodesk documentation specifically required registration. - Other Autodesk features open normally.
- The program remains stable after a restart.
FAQ
Is prxyinet.dll a Windows system file?
No. Available evidence identifies it as an Autodesk application component, not a standard Microsoft Windows file.
Which program uses prxyinet.dll?
The strongest public association is AutoCAD 2002. Other older Autodesk products may share components, but identify the calling executable before assuming which product owns your copy.
Is prxyinet.dll 32-bit or 64-bit?
Public inventories classify it as a 32-bit Win32 DLL. A separate 64-bit build has not been reliably established.

No. It normally belongs beside the Autodesk application that uses it. Copying it to System32 or SysWOW64 is not the normal repair.
Will System File Checker restore it?
Usually not. SFC repairs protected Windows system files, while prxyinet.dll is an application file. SFC can still help if Windows itself is damaged, but Autodesk repair remains the primary fix.
Should I register prxyinet.dll?
Usually no. regsvr32 is for DLLs designed to expose registration entry points. It is not a general missing-DLL repair command.
Can I download the file by itself?
Do not use an unauthenticated DLL download as the primary fix. Obtain the file through the exact Autodesk installer, original licensed media, or a verified backup.

What if the error says “The specified module could not be found”?
That message can mean prxyinet.dll exists but one of its dependencies is missing. Repair the complete Autodesk installation instead of adding unrelated DLLs one at a time.
What if no Autodesk installer is available?
Check your Autodesk Account, original media, licensed archives, or Autodesk support. If the obsolete product cannot be obtained or does not run on the current Windows version, a supported replacement or compatible older environment may be necessary.
