prxyinetres.dll is an Autodesk application file, not a Windows system DLL. If Windows says it is missing or cannot be loaded, repair or reinstall the specific Autodesk program that displays the error rather than copying a replacement into System32.
The file is publicly identified as PrxyInetRes Resource DLL, published by Autodesk. It appears to be a small legacy resource component associated with older AutoCAD-family software, although Autodesk does not currently document this filename directly in its public support pages. The exact Autodesk product and release on your computer must therefore be confirmed from the error, installed-program list, and file path.
Before you start: identify the program that needs the file
A missing-DLL message is only useful if you know which executable triggered it. Before changing anything, write down:
- The complete error text
- The name of the program shown in the title bar
- The executable named in the message, if shown
- The time the problem began
- The full path of any existing
prxyinetres.dllfile - Whether the issue began after an uninstall, upgrade, antivirus alert, disk cleanup, or copied program folder
Reported messages include:
This application failed to start because prxyinetres.dll was not found. The program can't start because prxyinetres.dll is missing from your computer.A required component is missing: prxyinetres.dll. Please install the application again.Error loading prxyinetres.dll. The specified module could not be found.Cannot find prxyinetres.dll.
These messages are commonly associated with application startup, but they do not prove which Autodesk release installed the file.

Check the executable path
If the dialog names an executable:
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+Escto open Task Manager. - Select Details.
- If the affected program appears, right-click it.
- Select Open file location.
- Check whether the folder belongs to Autodesk or an old AutoCAD installation.
You can also right-click the program shortcut, select Properties, and inspect the Target field. A shortcut pointing to an old program directory can continue producing the error even after a newer installation is working correctly.
Fix 1: repair the Autodesk installation
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
This is the safest and most likely fix. A repair restores the application files to the directory expected by the executable and can also restore related dependencies that a manually copied DLL would not provide.
For Autodesk products using the classic installer:
- Press
Windows+R. - Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter to open Programs and Features.
- Find the Autodesk product that produces the error.
- Select it and choose Uninstall/Change.
- In the Autodesk maintenance window, select Repair.
- Follow the prompts and allow the process to finish.
- Restart Windows.
- Start the Autodesk application from its normal shortcut.
Test the same action that originally produced the error. If the program opens and reaches its normal workspace, the repair worked.
If Repair is unavailable or the repair fails:
- Return to Programs and Features.
- Select the Autodesk product again.
- Choose Uninstall/Change.
- Select Reinstall, if the maintenance window provides that option.
- Complete the reinstall and restart Windows.
For Autodesk products using the newer installer, including products from newer release families, repair may not be supported. In that situation, uninstall the affected product and reinstall it from your Autodesk Account. Sign in, open Products and Services, select the matching product and release, then choose the available installation or download option.
Do not install a different release merely because its name looks similar. A newer executable can load files from an older directory, and an older resource DLL may not match the application that is calling it.
Fix 2: reinstall from the original Autodesk installer
Time needed: 20–45 minutes
Use this when repair is missing, the installer is damaged, or the error started after an interrupted installation.
- Save your Autodesk work and close all Autodesk programs.
- Open Settings with
Windows+I. - Select Apps.
- Open Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for the affected Autodesk product.
- Select the three-dot menu on Windows 11, or select the product on Windows 10.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows when prompted.
- Sign in to your Autodesk Account.
- Open Products and Services.
- Select the same product and release that you need.
- Choose Install, Download, or Direct download, depending on the options shown.
- Run the installer as an administrator.
- Restart Windows after installation completes.
To run the installer as administrator, right-click its file and choose Run as administrator.
A successful reinstall should place the resource file in the Autodesk application’s own installation directory or one of its supported component directories. It should not require placing the file in C:WindowsSystem32.

If the installer fails repeatedly, do not keep copying individual DLLs into the program folder. Back up custom templates, profiles, scripts, and licensing information first, then use Autodesk’s documented clean-uninstall process. A clean uninstall can remove residual files, registry entries, and licensing components, so it should be treated as a later repair step rather than the first action.
Fix 3: check antivirus quarantine
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
Security software may have quarantined a file from an old Autodesk installation. This is possible after an update, a scan, or a change in antivirus detection rules.
In Windows Security:
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open the app.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Look for an item whose path belongs to the Autodesk installation.
- Check the detection details before taking action.
Only restore or allow the item if all of these are true:
- The original path belongs to the Autodesk program you installed.
- The file was present as part of that installation.
- The detection is not associated with a newly downloaded DLL.
- You have not recently copied the file from another computer or website.
If the file came from a random DLL site, do not restore it simply because its filename matches. Remove it, run a full security scan, and repair or reinstall the Autodesk application from its original source instead.
After allowing a legitimate quarantined file, restart Windows and test the Autodesk program. If Windows Security detects the file again, leave it quarantined and reinstall the application rather than creating a permanent exclusion.
Fix 4: remove old or mixed Autodesk installations
Time needed: 20–40 minutes
A stale application directory can cause a newer program to load an older component. This commonly happens after upgrading AutoCAD, restoring an old program folder, or copying an Autodesk installation from another computer.
Check for multiple Autodesk entries:
- Open Settings with
Windows+I. - Select Apps.
- Open Installed apps.
- Search for Autodesk and AutoCAD.
- Note duplicate releases and related components.
- Do not remove a product until you have confirmed that you no longer need it.
If the error clearly points to an old release that you no longer use, uninstall that release through Windows. Restart, then launch the current Autodesk product from its installed shortcut.
If Windows refuses to remove the old product, use Microsoft’s Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter. It can help repair uninstall information that prevents a normal removal.
Do not delete Autodesk folders manually as the first step. Manual deletion can leave an incomplete installation record while removing files that the uninstaller needs.

Check for a stale shortcut
- Right-click the shortcut that produces the error.
- Select Properties.
- Read the path in Target.
- Select Open File Location, if available.
- Compare the folder with the Autodesk release you intend to use.
If the shortcut points to a removed or backed-up installation, create a new shortcut from the current installation rather than repairing the old path.
Fix 5: handle the 32-bit and 64-bit question correctly
Time needed: 5 minutes
Public file records commonly describe prxyinetres.dll as a 32-bit file, but that does not establish one universal version, size, or architecture for every Autodesk installation.
A 64-bit edition of Windows can run 32-bit Autodesk software. The important match is between the DLL, the Autodesk executable, and the rest of that particular installation. Choosing a file based only on a “32-bit” or “64-bit” label is not a reliable repair method.

- Press
Windows+I. - Select System.
- Select About.
- Read System type.
Do not use this information to select a downloaded DLL. Reinstalling the affected Autodesk product supplies the architecture and dependencies selected by the original installer.
A 64-bit Windows computer does not need a copy of the application DLL in System32 simply because the operating system is 64-bit. Windows normally searches the application’s own directory and other defined locations when loading its components. Putting a mismatched file in a system directory can make troubleshooting harder and can affect unrelated programs.
Fix 6: use System Restore only after a recent system change
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
System Restore may help if the file disappeared immediately after a driver installation, software removal, or other recent system change and a restore point predates that event.
- Press
Windows+R. - Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the problem began.
- Select Scan for affected programs, if available.
- Review the result.
- Select Next, then Finish.
System Restore rolls back system files and settings, but it does not normally remove personal documents. It can remove applications or drivers installed after the selected restore point.

If the Autodesk error remains after the restore, use the Autodesk repair or reinstall procedure. System Restore is not a substitute for restoring the application’s complete installation.
Fix 7: repair Windows components only when Windows itself is damaged
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
prxyinetres.dll is associated with an Autodesk application, so SFC and DISM are not the primary repair tools. Microsoft’s System File Checker repairs protected Windows system files; it is not expected to restore a third-party Autodesk resource DLL.
Use these commands when you also see broader symptoms, such as several Windows applications failing, damaged Windows features, or system-integrity messages.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC because DISM can provide the repair source for Windows components.

Fix 8: update drivers only when the error is part of a wider graphics problem
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
A graphics driver is not the known home of prxyinetres.dll, and replacing a display driver will not normally restore an Autodesk resource file. Driver work is relevant when the Autodesk program also crashes, shows rendering problems, or fails after a graphics-driver change.
To check the installed display driver:
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics adapter.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Note the provider, date, and version.
- Use Update Driver only when you have a trusted driver source or Windows Update offers an appropriate package.
If the problem began immediately after a driver update, open the same Driver tab and select Roll Back Driver, if available. Restart and test the Autodesk application.

When several devices show warnings, manually hunting through driver versions can be time-consuming. Outbyte Driver Updater provides a free scan showing reported driver issues, while driver installation is handled by the full version. It is not a replacement for repairing the Autodesk installation when prxyinetres.dll itself is missing.
Do not use regsvr32 as a default fix
Time needed: none
regsvr32 is for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A file described as a resource DLL is not automatically a COM or ActiveX server.
Do not run:
regsvr32 prxyinetres.dll
unless Autodesk’s instructions for the affected product specifically require it. If Windows reports that the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found, that does not mean the file is repaired or installed. It means the DLL is not exposing the registration function that regsvr32 expects.
The correct fix is to restore the file through the Autodesk installer.

Why downloading the DLL separately is unsafe
Random DLL download sites sites are a poor source for this file because:
- The file may be modified or bundled with unwanted software.
- The version may not match the Autodesk executable.
- The architecture may be wrong.
- Related dependencies may still be missing.
- A DLL copied from another computer may belong to a different Autodesk release.
- Copying it to
System32can place an application component in the wrong location. - A catalogue’s version, size, or checksum does not prove that a file is authentic.
Public records disagree about the reported version and size of prxyinetres.dll. That is another reason not to select a replacement based on a catalogue entry.
The safe sources are:
- The Repair or Reinstall option for the installed Autodesk product.
- The original Autodesk installer.
- The matching installer downloaded through your Autodesk Account.
Do not download a standalone copy and do not replace a security quarantine with an unverified file.
What the file is, and what it is not
prxyinetres.dll is best treated as an Autodesk application resource component. It is not established as part of:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Windows
- Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables
- DirectX
- .NET
- A standard graphics driver
It is also not confirmed to be present in every AutoCAD version. Historical AutoCAD installations contain related names such as prxyinet.dll and prxyinetRes.dll, while public records identify prxyinetres.dll as an Autodesk resource DLL. The exact product relationship depends on the local installation.
The normal location is the affected Autodesk application’s own installation directory or a related Autodesk component directory. There is no single safe universal path that applies to every Autodesk release.
Causes ranked by likelihood
| Likely cause | What usually happened | Correct response |
|---|---|---|
| Incomplete Autodesk installation | An install, update, or uninstall stopped partway through | Repair or reinstall the affected product |
| Old and new files were mixed | A newer executable is using an older program directory | Remove the stale release and reinstall the matching one |
| Antivirus quarantine | Security software removed a file from a genuine Autodesk path | Verify the path, then restore only if trusted, or reinstall |
| Copied program folder | Files were moved from another computer or backup | Remove the copied installation and use the original installer |
| Incorrect architecture or dependency set | A manually selected DLL does not match the application | Reinstall the complete Autodesk product |
| Windows corruption | Multiple Windows features or applications are also failing | Run DISM, then SFC |
| Malware or unsafe download | The file appears in an unrelated directory or is detected | Scan the system and reinstall from Autodesk |
If the error changes after repair
A different missing Autodesk DLL after repair usually means the installation contains more than one damaged or missing component. Do not download the newly named file separately.
- Record the new filename and the executable that displays it.
- Confirm that the executable path belongs to the intended Autodesk release.
- Run the Autodesk repair again, if supported.
- If repair is unavailable, uninstall and reinstall the matching product.
- Check antivirus Protection history for additional quarantined files.
- Use a clean uninstall only after backing up Autodesk customizations and licensing information.
If only one Windows user experiences the problem, create a temporary Windows user account and test the Autodesk application there. A damaged per-user Autodesk configuration can cause startup failures even when the application files are intact.

FAQ
Is prxyinetres.dll a Windows file?
No. It is associated with Autodesk application software and is not established as a protected Windows component.
Which Autodesk product installs it?
It is linked publicly with older AutoCAD-family software, but the exact product and version are not vendor-confirmed for every installation. Use the executable path and installed-program list to identify the affected product.
Should I put it in System32?
No. The application should load its matching component from its own installation. Copying an application DLL into System32 can introduce a wrong version and hide the underlying installation problem.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Can SFC restore prxyinetres.dll?
Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows files. It does not normally restore a missing Autodesk DLL.
Do I need Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Not based on this filename alone. Repair those components only if the error also names a Microsoft runtime or the Autodesk application documents that dependency.
Does a 64-bit PC need a 64-bit copy?
Not necessarily. 64-bit Windows can run 32-bit Autodesk applications. The correct file must match the installed Autodesk program, so reinstall the application instead of choosing a DLL by architecture label.
Why does regsvr32 say the entry point is missing?
regsvr32 expects a registration function that this resource DLL may not provide. That message does not indicate a successful repair.
What if reinstalling Autodesk does not help?
Check the full executable path, remove stale shortcuts, inspect antivirus quarantine, and confirm that the installer restored the same release that the shortcut launches. If the dialog names a different DLL afterward, treat it as a broader incomplete installation and perform a complete reinstall.
Is it safe to restore a quarantined copy?
Only after verifying that the file came from the genuine Autodesk installation path and was not downloaded or copied manually. When in doubt, leave it quarantined and reinstall the Autodesk product from its official installer.
