Choose Extra if you want the changing Game Catalog and shared PlayStation Plus benefits, but do not expect to use Premium’s extra features. Choose Premium if you will regularly use its Classics Catalog, selected game trials, or supported cloud streaming. At the U.S. prices displayed on October 4, 2026, Premium costs $25 more per year; whether that is worthwhile depends on what you’ll actually play and use.

What do you get with Extra and Premium?

Both tiers include the core PlayStation Plus benefits Sony lists: monthly games, online multiplayer, exclusive discounts, cloud storage, Share Play, and exclusive content. Extra adds the Game Catalog and Ubisoft+ Classics. Premium includes those Extra benefits and adds the Classics Catalog, game trials, cloud streaming, and the Sony Pictures Catalog. See PlayStation’s U.S. plan page for the current feature descriptions.

Feature Extra Premium
Core PlayStation Plus benefits Included Included
Game Catalog Included Included
Ubisoft+ Classics Included Included
Classics Catalog Not listed as an Extra benefit on PlayStation’s U.S. plan page Included
Game trials Not listed as an Extra benefit on PlayStation’s U.S. plan page Included for selected games
Cloud streaming Not listed as an Extra benefit on PlayStation’s U.S. plan page Included, subject to game, device, and connection support
Sony Pictures Catalog Not listed as an Extra benefit on PlayStation’s U.S. plan page Included

The Game Catalog is described by PlayStation as containing hundreds of games, with new titles added regularly. That describes the service, not a guarantee that any particular game will be available: titles and availability change over time.

How much more does Premium cost?

The U.S. PlayStation storefront displayed these prices on October 4, 2026. They are a dated U.S. snapshot, not a quote for other countries or a promise of a future price. PlayStation says subscriptions continue until cancelled and are charged at the then-current Store price.

Which tier fits your play habits?

Extra is a better fit if…

  • You mainly want to browse and download games from the changing Game Catalog.
  • You value the shared core benefits and Ubisoft+ Classics but do not expect to use Premium’s added features.
  • You would rather spend less than pay for a Classics Catalog, trials, or streaming access you will rarely use.

Premium may be worth the extra cost if…

  • You regularly play games from the Classics Catalog.
  • You use selected game trials to try games before deciding whether to buy them.
  • You have a supported device and connection, and expect to stream eligible games often enough to value that option.
  • You expect to use the Sony Pictures Catalog, which PlayStation lists as a Premium benefit.

A practical test is to name the Premium-only feature you would use and how often you would use it. If none comes to mind, Extra is the more straightforward choice. If one or more is part of your regular routine, compare that use with the price difference for your billing period.

What games can you play with your membership?

The answer depends on the tier and the current catalog. Extra and Premium both include the Game Catalog, while Premium also includes the Classics Catalog and selected trials. Catalog membership does not mean a title is permanently available, and the number of games alone cannot tell you whether the games you want are there.

PlayStation’s plan and games pages state that, from January 2026, PS4 games will be added only intermittently. If frequent new PS4 additions are important to you, do not assume a regular cadence. Check the current catalog listing for specific games before choosing a tier. PlayStation’s games and membership FAQ explains game access and streaming details.

Does Premium cloud streaming work with your setup?

PlayStation says Premium cloud streaming is available on PS4 and PS5 consoles and PC. Its FAQ also says selected games can stream to PS5 or PlayStation Portal. The support page lists a minimum internet speed of 5 Mbps, or 15 Mbps for 1080p. These are minimums, not a promise of a particular experience; eligibility also depends on the game and device.

Some games may not be available to stream. Before paying extra for streaming, confirm that the specific game you want and your device are supported in your region and setup. PlayStation’s support page lists streaming requirements and feature support.

How to make the choice

  1. Check the games you actually want. Look at the current PlayStation Plus catalog rather than relying on the overall game count; titles can change.
  2. Identify any Premium-only feature you would use. Consider Classics Catalog games, selected trials, streaming eligibility, and the Sony Pictures Catalog.
  3. Compare the price for your billing period. Use your local Store’s current checkout price; the U.S. figures above are only a dated reference.
  4. Pick the lower tier unless the extra features earn their cost for you. If you cannot name a Premium feature you expect to use, Extra avoids paying for benefits you do not need.
