PlayStation Plus’s September 2025 monthly games were Psychonauts 2, Stardew Valley and Viewfinder, scheduled to become available on September 2. The lineup is historical: that claim period has passed, so the games should not be described as currently claimable through this offer. The “as good as Astro Bot” comparison is T3 writer Rik Henderson’s opinion of Psychonauts 2, not an official Sony assessment or a like-for-like comparison.
What were the PS Plus monthly games for September 2025?
Sony Interactive Entertainment announced the three-game lineup on August 27, 2025. Sony said members could access the games from September 2. The offer has expired; the announcement does not establish that any of these games are available to claim now.

Those descriptions make the lineup a varied selection rather than three games in one genre: a platform-adventure, a farming-focused game and a first-person puzzle adventure. The official details are in Sony’s September 2025 PlayStation Plus announcement.
Is Psychonauts 2 like Astro Bot?
There is a reasonable genre-level connection: Sony classifies Psychonauts 2 as a platform-adventure, and T3’s Rik Henderson praised it alongside Astro Bot and Super Mario Odyssey. Henderson’s assessment that it belongs in the same regard is subjective editorial opinion, not a Sony claim, measured rating or indication that the games share the same mechanics.

Sony describes protagonist Razputin “Raz” Aquato as a trained acrobat and young psychic who joins the Psychonauts, an international psychic espionage organization. The adventure sends Raz through the minds of friends and foes, where players use customizable psychic powers. That unusual setting and platform-adventure framing explain why the game was singled out for a platformer comparison; they do not make it a direct substitute for Astro Bot. Which PS Plus tier included the monthly games?
Sony’s current US PlayStation Plus page lists Monthly Games as a benefit of Essential, Extra and Premium. It lists Game Catalog access for Extra and Premium, rather than Essential. Monthly Games and the Game Catalog are distinct benefits; having access to the catalog is not the same as claiming a monthly game.

The September 2025 games were a membership benefit for the offer period, not unconditional free ownership. Sony’s current US page reflects US benefits, and the lineup announcement does not establish a present claim window for these titles. Check the PlayStation Plus page for your region for current benefits and terms; the US page should not be treated as a statement of availability or pricing elsewhere.

Sony’s August 27 announcement said members had until September 1, 2025, to add August’s Lies of P, Day Z and My Hero One’s Justice 2 to their libraries. That deadline was tied to the 2025 changeover and has also passed.
