Yes—PS Remote Play is officially available on Chromecast with Google TV, including the 4K model. Sony added Android TV support on September 13, 2023, and its current documentation lists both Chromecast with Google TV 4K and HD models running Android TV OS 12 or later. The Chromecast runs the Remote Play app and receives a stream from your PS4 or PS5; it is not cloud gaming and cannot play without the console.
See Sony’s current compatibility and requirements at PlayStation Remote Play.
What the Chromecast support actually does
Chromecast with Google TV acts as a Remote Play client. Your PS4 or PS5 renders the game, while the Chromecast displays the video and sends controller input back over the network. This is different from casting a phone screen and does not move the game to Google’s cloud.
You can use it on another television in the same home or, when both ends have suitable internet access, from another location. The console remains essential: a Chromecast by itself has no PlayStation game library.

Which Chromecast models are supported?
Sony originally verified the Chromecast with Google TV (4K) when Android TV support launched. Sony’s current Remote Play page also lists the Chromecast with Google TV (HD), with Android TV OS 12 or later as the stated platform requirement.
| Device | Support status | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Chromecast with Google TV (4K) | Listed by Sony | The 4K model name does not guarantee a 4K Remote Play stream. |
| Chromecast with Google TV (HD) | Listed by Sony | Suitable for an HD television; display class and stream resolution are separate. |
| Older Chromecast receivers | Not an official app target | They receive casts but do not provide the Google TV interface needed to install the app. |
| Other Android TV or Google TV devices | Not universally guaranteed | Android TV OS 12 or later is a requirement, but Sony’s verified-device list is narrower than every compatible-looking device. |
What you need
- A PS4, PS4 Pro, PS5, or PS5 Digital Edition with current system software.
- A supported Chromecast with Google TV and updated device software.
- The official PS Remote Play app.
- A PlayStation account used on both the console and Chromecast.
- A compatible controller: DualSense, DualSense Edge where supported, or DUALSHOCK 4.
- A broadband connection. Sony recommends at least 5 Mbps and 15 Mbps or more for a better experience.
- A game that does not require excluded VR, special peripherals, or PlayStation Plus Premium cloud streaming.
PS Remote Play is presented by Sony as a free app, but it still requires the compatible PlayStation console and does not replace its hardware.
How to install and connect it
- Turn on the Chromecast with Google TV and install any pending system updates.
- Open the Google Play Store, or the device’s app-search interface.
- Search for PS Remote Play and install the official PlayStation app.
- Pair your controller with the Chromecast through Bluetooth. Pair it with the TV device, not only with the PlayStation.
- Open PS Remote Play and sign in with the same PlayStation account associated with your console.
- Select the PS4 or PS5 shown by the app and start the session.
On the console, enable Remote Play, keep it connected to the internet, and enable the relevant Rest Mode network options if you want it to wake remotely. Sony’s exact menu labels can change between PS4 and PS5 system-software versions, so use the Remote Play settings shown on your console.

If PS Remote Play does not appear
- Confirm that the device is Chromecast with Google TV, not an older cast-only Chromecast.
- Check the Android TV OS version and install firmware updates.
- Search from the television’s Play Store; a phone Play Store listing does not guarantee TV availability.
- Check Play Store account and regional availability.
- Avoid treating APK sideloading as the normal fix. It can cause interface, controller, and compatibility problems and is not Sony’s official installation route.
Controller support and missing features
Basic button input works with supported controllers, but Android TV Remote Play does not reproduce every feature available when a controller is connected directly to a PS5.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- DualSense: haptics, adaptive triggers, controller audio output, and the built-in microphone are not supported through Remote Play on Android TV.
- DUALSHOCK 4: touch-pad, motion-sensor, light-bar, vibration, and controller-audio functions may be unavailable on Android TV.
DualSense Edge is included in Sony’s broader Remote Play controller support, but the Chromecast app should not be assumed to expose every Edge-specific function.
Network performance, latency, and picture quality
Using it at home
The console and Chromecast communicate across your home network. Ethernet to the console, where practical, can improve consistency, while the Chromecast normally depends on Wi-Fi. Weak signal, a congested 2.4 GHz network, or heavy household downloads and streaming can produce stutter and input delay.

- Get fast streaming, and enjoy a crystal clear picture up to 4K and brighter colors with HDR
- Your home screen displays movies and TV shows from all your services in one place with Chromecast 4K; get personal recommendations based on your subscriptions, viewing habits, and content you own
- Press the Google Assistant button on the remote and use voice search to find specific shows, youtube tv streaming, or search by mood, genre, actress, and more; control the volume, switch inputs, play music, and get answers, hands-free
- Chromecast is easy to install and compatible with almost any TV that has an HDMI port; to get started, just plug it into your TV’s HDMI port, connect to Wi-Fi, and start streaming
Using it away from home
Remote Play can work from another location, but both the home console and remote device need suitable internet connections. Upload performance at the home where the console sits matters as much as download speed at the Chromecast location. Greater physical distance can also increase latency.
Sony recommends at least 5 Mbps and 15 Mbps or higher for a better experience. Those figures are guidance, not a guarantee: game, router, Wi-Fi conditions, distance, and congestion all affect results. Turn on the television’s Game Mode or low-latency mode. Wireless-controller input lag can still occur depending on signal conditions.
“4K” identifies the Chromecast hardware model. Sony’s compatibility material does not guarantee a native 4K or 60fps Remote Play stream for this specific setup, so do not buy the device on that assumption.

Games and features that are not supported
Remote Play does not cover every PlayStation experience. Sony excludes:
- Games requiring PlayStation VR or PlayStation VR2.
- Games requiring peripherals beyond the supported controller.
- Games that must be streamed through a PlayStation Plus Premium cloud-streaming membership.
An installed game played from your own PS4 or PS5 is different from a title that only exists as a Premium cloud stream. Individual games can still feel different because of their network and input demands.

The console cannot be found
- Use the same PlayStation account on both devices.
- Confirm Remote Play is enabled and the console is online.
- Leave the console powered on, or configure Rest Mode network features for remote wake-up.
- Check for guest-network isolation, router restrictions, or account sign-in problems.
The connection works but feels delayed
- Enable TV Game Mode.
- Move the Chromecast nearer to a stronger Wi-Fi signal.
- Use Ethernet for the console if available.
- Pause large downloads, uploads, and other streaming.
- Investigate 2.4 GHz congestion, Bluetooth interference, and the distance between console and Chromecast.
The controller works but features are missing
That is generally an Android TV limitation rather than a failed pairing. Expect ordinary controls to work while haptics, adaptive triggers, motion, touch-pad, microphone, light-bar, or controller-audio functions are limited according to the controller and feature.

Is Chromecast Remote Play the right choice?
| Your situation | Best fit |
|---|---|
| You already own Chromecast with Google TV and want to use a second television | Try PS Remote Play. |
| You want handheld PS5 play | PlayStation Portal or a phone/tablet with a controller. |
| You want the lowest possible latency and full controller features | Direct HDMI connection. |
| You do not own a PS4 or PS5 | Chromecast Remote Play is not suitable. |
| You want cloud gaming without a console | This is not that service. |
Portal is purpose-built for PS5 Remote Play, but it is a separate handheld purchase and does not solve the specific problem of putting Remote Play on an existing second TV. A phone, tablet, PC, or Mac can be a useful alternative when portability or a different screen matters.
Bottom line
Chromecast with Google TV 4K—and Sony’s currently listed HD model—can run PS Remote Play when the device meets the Android TV OS 12 requirement. It is a practical second-screen solution for an existing PS4 or PS5, provided you accept network-dependent latency, reduced controller features, and the fact that the Chromecast is receiving a console stream rather than delivering cloud gaming or guaranteed 4K output.
