Identify your PS4 model before buying a battery or following a teardown

iFixit provides a PS4 repair index and a PS4 teardown explicitly is not a repair guide, so it should not be used as a definitive CMOS replacement procedure.

This is not an official Sony battery specification, and it does not verify fit for every PS4 revision. Why this is not a universal step-by-step replacement
Battery access requires significant console disassembly. The available sources do not establish the exact battery position, full removal sequence, complete tool list, screw locations, connector steps, or polarity orientation across PS4 revisions. Before opening the console, shut it down fully and disconnect power. Follow a teardown specifically for your CUH revision, and do not reuse another model’s tool list or steps. If you cannot find a procedure that explicitly matches your model, stop rather than improvising or treating a general teardown as a battery guide.
Protect the battery socket during removal
An iFixit community answer describes the cell as snapping into a socket and warns against levering the socket off the motherboard. Support the holder while removing the cell, and do not force a stuck battery or attempt unnecessary board-level repair. This is community repair advice, not Sony guidance. Will replacing the battery fix a PS4 date, time, or game problem?
A depleted clock battery may be relevant to a date or time problem, but the available sources do not establish that replacement resolves every such symptom. They also do not verify a current firmware-specific remedy or explain all effects on games and online services after clock loss. Do not assume that a clock error means disc games will stop working, or that a battery replacement will restore every feature.
In an October 30, 2013 European FAQ, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Sid Shuman, then Senior Director of Content Communications, wrote: “Besides system software update 1.50 and a one-time activation for playing Blu-ray Disc and DVD movies, the PS4 system does not require an online connection for authentication purposes or to play disc-based games.” That launch-era statement addresses disc-game authentication at the time; it does not answer current questions about depleted RTC batteries, digital games, online features, or later firmware behavior. When to seek a model-specific repair guide or help
- Use a repair guide that names your exact CUH revision and shows the battery-holder access path for that model.
- Confirm the cell designation and holder before buying a replacement; the sources identify CR2032 and, in a PS4 Pro video, 3V, but do not establish universal compatibility.
- Stop if a step, tool, connector, or battery orientation is unclear rather than guessing or forcing the holder.
