Yes—PS4 supports Platinum trophies. The important qualification is that Platinum availability is decided by each game’s trophy list, not by the console alone. A PS4 game can use the Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze grades, but the developer or publisher determines which grades exist and what you must do to earn them.
What a Platinum trophy means on PS4
PlayStation’s trophy system has four grades. In order from most difficult to least difficult, they are Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze. Platinum is therefore the top grade in the system, but its presence is attached to an individual game rather than guaranteed by the PS4 platform. PlayStation describes both the number and grades of trophies, along with the conditions for earning them, as varying from game to game. You can read the official explanation in PlayStation’s trophy support guide.

| Grade | Position in PlayStation’s order | What that tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Platinum | Most difficult | The highest grade a game’s trophy list can include; it is not guaranteed for every game. |
| Gold | Below Platinum | A game may include Gold trophies whether or not it includes a Platinum. |
| Silver | Below Gold | Part of the game’s own grade mix and requirements. |
| Bronze | Least difficult | Part of the game’s own grade mix and requirements. |
The grade order is a classification, not a promise about how long a particular trophy will take. A Bronze trophy in one game can demand a very different task from a Bronze trophy in another. The only reliable description of a game’s Platinum is the trophy list for that specific game.

Does every PS4 game have a Platinum?
No. PS4 supports the Platinum grade, but a particular game may omit it. The same game-specific rule applies to the number of trophies, the mix of grades and the conditions attached to each trophy. Do not infer that a game has a Platinum merely because it runs on PS4, appears in your library or has other trophy grades.

This distinction matters when you are deciding whether a completion goal is available. A list can contain Bronze, Silver and Gold trophies without offering a Platinum at the end. Conversely, a list that does include Platinum can set requirements that are very different from another game’s requirements. There is no platform-wide completion formula that turns a set number of lower-grade trophies into a Platinum.
Official PlayStation guidance explains the variation but does not give a single PS4-wide percentage or count of games with Platinums. Treat claims that every PS4 title has one, or that a fixed proportion does, as claims that need a specific source and game list rather than assumptions about the console.
How to check a game’s trophy list on PS4
The console provides the check you need before you start hunting. Use the PS4 function screen rather than relying on a store description or on another edition’s list.

PlayStation’s support instructions are documented at How to earn trophies on PlayStation consoles. The list shown for the selected game is the practical answer to whether that game offers a Platinum and what its stated requirements are.
Use the list before you begin
Check the list at the planning stage, not after you have completed every visible objective. Confirm that a Platinum entry is present, then read the conditions for the other trophies. A Platinum may depend on trophies that require different activities, difficulty choices, collectibles, or mutually exclusive outcomes. The list is where those conditions are stated; the console’s support for Platinum does not tell you which route to take.
Sort or search when the list is large
From the PS4 Trophies screen, press the OPTIONS button. PlayStation says you can sort trophies by earned date or by grade, and you can search online for details. Sorting by grade is useful when you want to locate the Platinum entry quickly; sorting by earned date helps you see what you have recently unlocked. Searching online can provide explanations for a condition, but match any guide to the exact game and trophy list shown on your PS4.

How to sync PS4 trophies with PlayStation Network
Your PS4 can manually send the trophy information it displays to PlayStation Network. This is separate from checking whether a game’s list contains a Platinum.

- Open the PS4 function screen and select Trophies.
- Press OPTIONS.
- Choose Sync with PlayStation Network.
Those are the manual-sync steps in PlayStation’s official instructions. Syncing is useful after you have earned trophies and want the network record to reflect the progress shown on the console. It does not create a Platinum for a game whose list does not include one, and it does not change the conditions set by the game.
If a newly earned trophy is not visible online
First return to the game’s list on the PS4 and check whether the trophy appears there. If the local list shows the new trophy but your online record does not, run Sync with PlayStation Network from the OPTIONS menu. If the trophy is not listed locally, reread the condition in that game’s list: an objective can be narrower than its in-game wording suggests, or it may require a particular outcome. Use the exact entry as the reference instead of assuming that a similar in-game achievement counts.

Why one Platinum can require several playthroughs
A Platinum is not necessarily a single-run checklist. Some games make trophy outcomes depend on choices or events that cannot all occur in one sequence. PlayStation’s official Until Dawn trophy tips give a concrete example: pursuing some trophies can affect your ability to earn others, and multiple playthroughs may be needed for that game’s Platinum. See the guidance at PlayStation’s Until Dawn trophy tips.
Until Dawn should be treated as an example of game-specific design, not as a rule for every PS4 title. The practical lesson is to inspect the dependencies in the list before committing to a route. If one decision changes which trophies remain possible, a first playthrough may be used to establish one outcome and a later playthrough to pursue another. The game’s own entries and official guidance determine whether that approach is necessary.

- Read every trophy description before making an irreversible story or mode choice.
- Mark trophies whose conditions appear to depend on the same character, decision or outcome.
- Choose whether to pursue a coherent set of outcomes in the current playthrough rather than mixing incompatible objectives.
- After finishing that route, compare the remaining entries with your notes and plan another playthrough only if the list requires a different outcome.
- Sync the completed trophies so your network record matches the progress visible on the console.
This method does not assume that every game has branching requirements. It simply prevents you from treating the Platinum as an automatic reward for finishing the main story.

Common questions about PS4 Platinum trophies
Is Platinum a separate PS4 feature or a game feature?
Both parts are involved, but they are different. The PS4 system recognizes and displays the Platinum grade. The individual game supplies the list, decides whether Platinum appears and defines the conditions. Think of PS4 as supporting the category and the game as supplying the contract for earning it.
Can I tell from the game’s title alone?
No. Open Trophies on the PS4 function screen and select the game. That list is the dependable place to verify the grade set and requirements. If you are using an external guide, ensure it matches the same game and trophy list rather than assuming that a similarly named release has identical entries.
Does earning all the lower grades guarantee Platinum?
Only if that particular game’s list says so through its Platinum entry and conditions. Completing every visible Bronze, Silver and Gold trophy does not add a Platinum to a list that lacks one. Where a Platinum does exist, read its own description and check whether additional requirements or separate outcomes are specified.
Can one playthrough always earn the Platinum?
No universal answer applies. Some lists can be completed in one run; others may require multiple playthroughs. The official Until Dawn guidance demonstrates the latter possibility because some trophy outcomes can affect others. Use the selected game’s list and any matching official tips to determine the route.
What does the OPTIONS button do in the Trophies screen?
PlayStation says it provides sorting by earned date or grade, an online search option, and the Sync with PlayStation Network command. Sorting helps you inspect a list; syncing updates the network record. These actions do not alter the game’s trophy requirements.
A practical checklist before chasing a Platinum
- Verify the list: Open Trophies on PS4 and select the exact game.
- Confirm the grade: Look for a Platinum entry instead of assuming the platform guarantees one.
- Read conditions: Note every requirement attached to the Platinum and to the trophies that may feed into it.
- Look for conflicts: Identify choices or outcomes that could prevent another trophy, as in the official Until Dawn example.
- Plan runs: If the list contains incompatible outcomes, organize separate playthroughs rather than trying to force every objective into one.
- Track progress: Use sorting by grade or earned date from the OPTIONS menu when reviewing what remains.
- Sync deliberately: Select Sync with PlayStation Network after local progress is recorded and you want the online record updated.
Following this checklist answers the two questions that are often conflated: whether PS4 has the Platinum grade (yes) and whether a particular PS4 game offers one (only its own trophy list can establish that).
