PlayStation Plus Premium includes the Classics Catalog. It also includes the separate Game Catalog, limited-time Game Trials, Cloud Streaming, monthly games and the core benefits inherited from lower tiers. PlayStation Plus Extra includes the Game Catalog and lower-tier benefits, but not the Classics Catalog, Game Trials or Cloud Streaming.
That distinction matters because the Classics Catalog is a benefit inside Premium, not the name for everything Premium offers. The catalog and feature details below reflect PlayStation’s official US page accessed October 13, 2026; availability, titles and plan features can change, and other countries may differ.

The short answer: Premium is the tier that includes Classics
If your main question is whether a PlayStation Plus plan gives you the Classics Catalog, the answer is Premium only. Extra does not include it. Premium adds several other benefits at the same time, so choosing Premium solely for “Classics” means you are also paying for Game Trials and Cloud Streaming, in addition to the Game Catalog and lower-tier features.

Premium and Extra compared
| Feature | PlayStation Plus Premium | PlayStation Plus Extra | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classics Catalog | Included | Not included | Premium’s legacy-games library; it is one Premium benefit, not the whole plan. |
| Game Catalog | Included | Included | A separate catalog with titles added regularly; individual games can become unavailable. |
| Game Trials | Included | Not included | Select games can be played for a limited trial period. |
| Cloud Streaming | Included, where available | Not included | Eligibility depends on the game, device, connection and territory. |
| Monthly games and core benefits | Included through lower-tier benefits | Included through lower-tier benefits | These are not exclusive to the Classics Catalog. |
PlayStation’s plan page presents Premium as the higher tier that carries Extra’s benefits and adds the Classics Catalog, Game Trials and Cloud Streaming. It does not present the Classics Catalog as a stand-alone subscription. In other words, there is no separate “Classics-only” plan in this comparison: access comes through the Premium membership.
What the two catalogs actually are
Classics Catalog
The Classics Catalog is the legacy-games library attached to Premium. The word “classics” describes the catalog category; it does not mean that every game is available for download, every title runs locally on a PS5, or that the catalog has a fixed number of games.
PlayStation specifically notes that a wide selection of classic PlayStation 3 games is available through streaming only. That is an important limitation for anyone expecting to install every classic on the console. Other eligible classics may offer a download option, but eligibility is title-specific.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteUse the catalog label as a starting point, not as a technical guarantee. A classic may be downloadable, streamable, or limited to one method. The exact listing is more reliable than a general description of the catalog.
Game Catalog
The Game Catalog is a separate library included with both Extra and Premium. PlayStation says titles are added regularly and that availability can change. A title’s presence in the Game Catalog therefore does not create permanent ownership; access is tied to the service and to the game remaining available.
The all-games finder displayed 640 games when the US page was checked. That is a live result for the finder, not a Classics Catalog total. It should not be treated as a guaranteed or permanent count because the page is dynamic and the catalog changes. It also should not be used to estimate how many games Extra or Premium users in another country can access.
What Premium includes beyond the catalogs
The Classics Catalog is only one row in the Premium comparison. Premium also includes the Game Catalog, which Extra already provides, plus Game Trials and Cloud Streaming. Monthly games and the core benefits associated with lower tiers are included through the plan structure as well.
That distinction is useful when comparing value. If you want modern games from the Game Catalog and plan to download them, Extra may cover your use case. If you want older titles, trials or cloud play, those are separate Premium reasons. Do not describe Premium as merely “the Classics plan,” because that leaves out features that may be the deciding factor for another player.

Download versus streaming on PS5
Premium members can download or stream eligible titles in the Game Catalog and Classics Catalog. The important word is eligible: the service does not promise that every entry supports both methods.
When downloading works
- Most games across the libraries can be downloaded, according to PlayStation’s FAQ.
- PS5 games can only be downloaded to a PS5.
- A download gives you a local installation, but it remains subscription access rather than a permanent purchase.
- The title page or official game finder is the appropriate place to confirm whether a particular game has a download option.
- Downloading does not bypass an end date. If the title leaves the service, an installed copy can become unavailable.
When streaming is required or available
- A wide selection of classic PS3 games is streaming-only.
- Cloud Streaming is a Premium benefit and is not included with Extra.
- Streaming availability depends on the specific title, supported device, internet connection and territory.
- PlayStation lists 5 Mbps as the minimum connection and says 15 Mbps is needed for 1080p streaming.
- Not every catalog entry is streamable, so use the streaming game finder for the exact game rather than assuming that a catalog listing can be played in the cloud.
The bandwidth figures are minimum guidance, not a promise of identical performance in every home. A connection that meets the threshold can still be affected by local network use or other conditions. Before upgrading for streaming, verify that the title, your device and your country are all supported.
Streaming also has a functional limitation beyond bandwidth: DLC and add-ons are not supported when a title is streamed. If downloadable content is essential to your plan, verify that the base game can be downloaded and that the add-on is usable with that version.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →How to check a specific classic before subscribing
Because catalog membership and delivery method vary by title, check the game itself rather than relying on the catalog name.
- Open PlayStation’s official games and plan page for your market.
- Use the all-games finder to locate the title and identify whether it is listed in the Classics Catalog, Game Catalog or both.
- Check the title’s available actions for download or streaming. Do not infer download support from the fact that the game is listed.
- If streaming is important, check the streaming game finder separately; a catalog listing alone is not confirmation of cloud eligibility.
- Confirm that your country, device and connection meet the stated streaming requirements before choosing Premium for that game.
- Look for an end date or other availability notice if you expect to spend weeks or months completing the game.
This check is especially useful for classic PS3 games, where streaming-only access is common. It also prevents a second mistake: treating the live 640-game finder figure as a promise that a particular classic is available.
What happens when membership ends or a game leaves
Active membership is required
Catalog access lasts only while you have an active eligible membership and the game remains part of the service. Downloading a game does not convert it into a perpetual license. If the membership expires, catalog games become unavailable unless you resubscribe or buy the game separately.
Games can have end dates
PlayStation says some Game Catalog and Classics Catalog games show an end date and will leave the service. An installed game can therefore stop launching after its service availability ends. Check the game’s listing for an end date when planning a long playthrough.
Monthly games follow a different model
Monthly games can be added to your library and played while your membership remains active. They are distinct from the rotating Game Catalog and Classics Catalog, so adding a monthly game does not make a removed catalog title permanent. A monthly game and a catalog game may therefore behave differently in your library even though both are accessed through PlayStation Plus.

DLC follows the base game
If you purchase DLC for a downloaded catalog game, PlayStation says access to that DLC is lost while the base game is unavailable because your membership expired or the game left the service. The DLC can be used again if you resubscribe or purchase the base game. DLC and add-ons are not supported when the title is being streamed.
Which plan fits which player?
Choose Premium for classics, trials or cloud play
Premium is the relevant choice if you specifically want the Classics Catalog. It is also the only one of these two tiers that includes Game Trials and Cloud Streaming. A player who prefers to test selected games for a limited period, or who wants to stream eligible titles instead of downloading them, needs Premium for those features.
Choose Extra when the Game Catalog is enough
Extra includes the Game Catalog and the lower-tier benefits but omits the Classics Catalog, Game Trials and Cloud Streaming. If your target games are modern Game Catalog titles that you intend to download, and you do not need classics, trials or streaming, Extra supplies the relevant catalog without those Premium-only features.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteUse a title-first decision process
- List the specific games you want to play.
- Mark each one as Classics Catalog, Game Catalog, monthly game or unavailable to your plan.
- For each catalog game, check whether download, streaming or both are supported.
- Decide whether limited-time trials or cloud access are valuable to you beyond the games themselves.
- Review the current offer shown for your account and country before paying. Prices can vary by market, account and promotion, and the official page does not establish one stable annual Premium price.
- Check for an end date so a short-term subscription does not leave an unfinished game inaccessible.
This method avoids paying for Premium because a game is described informally as a “classic” when it is not actually in the Classics Catalog, and it avoids assuming that a catalog game can be streamed or downloaded in every territory.
Costs, offers and what to verify
The practical cost is the current Premium or Extra offer presented for your account and market. PlayStation’s rendered price modules can vary by country, account state and promotion, and the official page reviewed for this comparison does not establish one stable annual Premium amount to quote universally. Check the live plan page while signed in, if required, and compare the term shown for your account rather than relying on an old price in a guide.
When comparing the plans, count only benefits you will use. Extra may be the lower-cost fit for a player interested in downloadable Game Catalog titles. Premium can justify its higher price for someone who will use Classics, trials or streaming, but the value disappears if the desired games are unavailable in the reader’s territory or are streaming-only without a suitable connection.
Common misunderstandings and how to avoid them
“Premium is the Classics Catalog”
Premium is the subscription tier; the Classics Catalog is one included benefit. Premium also contains the Game Catalog, Game Trials, Cloud Streaming and lower-tier benefits.

“Extra includes classics because it includes the Game Catalog”

“Every classic can be downloaded”
That is not guaranteed. PlayStation says many classic PS3 games are streaming-only, and download eligibility varies by title.
“Every catalog game can be streamed”
Streaming is selective and subject to game, device, connection and territory restrictions. Use the streaming game finder for confirmation.
“A downloaded catalog game is mine”
Downloading improves local play but does not remove the membership requirement. A game can also leave the service while installed.
Recommended Free Tools
“Buying DLC makes the catalog game permanent”
DLC does not preserve access to an unavailable base game. PlayStation says DLC access is lost while the base game is unavailable because of membership expiry or removal, then returns if you resubscribe or buy the game.
“The 640-game figure is the Classics total”
It is not. The number was the all-games finder result on the US page at the time checked. It includes the live finder’s result and can change; it is not a fixed Classics Catalog count.

The comparison above is a US-specific snapshot from PlayStation’s official page accessed October 13, 2026. PlayStation states that availability varies by plan and over time. A title, streaming option or feature shown in the US may not appear in another country, and the live finder count can change after you read this.
For an accurate decision, select your local PlayStation site, sign in if the page presents account-specific offers, and check the individual game listing. Treat plan descriptions, catalog membership and streaming eligibility as current-status information rather than permanent specifications.

This sentence from PlayStation’s official US PlayStation Plus games FAQ captures the practical distinction: Premium may give you access to a classic, but the way you play it can still be constrained by the title’s streaming-only status.
Bottom line for PS5 owners
Premium is the plan that includes the Classics Catalog. Extra includes only the separate Game Catalog among these two libraries. Premium also adds Game Trials and Cloud Streaming, while both plans include monthly games and lower-tier benefits. Before subscribing, check the exact game, download or streaming method, territory, end date and current account-specific offer. That is the only reliable way to know what you can play on your PS5 today.
