PS5 cloud gaming is Sony’s Cloud Streaming feature, included with PlayStation Plus Premium. It lets you launch a selection of games over the internet without downloading or installing them. You can stream eligible games on a PS5; PlayStation Portal is an optional device for supported handheld cloud play.
What is PS5 Cloud Streaming?
Sony’s Cloud Streaming runs an eligible game from the cloud and sends the gameplay to your device over the internet. On PS5, choose a game that has a Stream option to start playing without downloading it first. Sony says this can save console storage that a game download would otherwise use. Which games can you stream?
Eligibility is limited to selected titles. Sony’s streamable selection includes games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog, selected digital PS5 games in a subscriber’s library, and selected free-to-play titles. Availability changes over time and varies by region, and not every PS5 game can be streamed. Check a specific title in Sony’s Cloud Streaming Game Finder before relying on streaming as an alternative to downloading it.
How to start streaming on PS5

Confirm that your account has an active PlayStation Plus Premium membership and that Cloud Streaming is available in your country or region.

On PS5, open the PlayStation Plus area or find an eligible game in the game catalog or your library.

Select the game’s Stream option. If the game is not eligible, that option will not be available.

Can you use PlayStation Portal for cloud gaming?
Yes. PlayStation Portal can stream supported PS5 games directly from the cloud for PlayStation Plus Premium members. This is different from using Portal for Remote Play, which connects the handheld to your own PS5. With Portal cloud streaming, the game runs from Sony’s cloud, so your PS5 does not need to be on or available for the session. Sony announced the Portal feature’s official launch on November 5, 2025. Portal is required for that handheld route, but it is not required to stream games directly on a PS5. The device supports cloud streaming only for eligible titles; check the game’s availability rather than assuming the entire PS5 catalog works on Portal.
Who can use the service?
Sony’s published requirements include a PlayStation account, an active PlayStation Plus Premium membership, broadband internet, and an account region where Cloud Streaming is supported. The feature is unavailable to child accounts. For streaming through Portal, you also need a PlayStation Portal Remote Player. Sony support: Cloud Streaming requirements

Sony’s current overview lists the United States, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and other European countries. Overseas territories are excluded. Sony publishes different speed guidance on its PS5 Cloud Streaming overview and its Portal support page. Treat these as Sony’s stated thresholds, not as a guarantee of smooth play: Sony says performance depends on the game and the quality of the network environment.

The figures are from Sony’s PS5 Cloud Streaming overview and Sony’s Portal support guidance, respectively. The pages use different labels and thresholds, so do not treat them as one universal minimum. Meeting a listed speed does not ensure low latency or uninterrupted play; network stability and the individual game also affect the experience.
Cloud streaming versus downloading

Streaming still depends on an eligible game, an active Premium membership, regional access, and a suitable internet connection. The game finder is the practical way to check eligibility; a PlayStation Plus subscription does not make every title streamable.
What does PlayStation Plus Premium cost?
PlayStation Plus Premium is required, but Sony’s subscription price depends on country and billing period. Check the current price shown for your account’s region on Sony’s subscription page rather than relying on a price quoted for another market or plan duration. PlayStation Plus plans
