If you see error WV-109156-2 while a PS5 game connects online or accesses an account, the available reports do not confirm one universal cause or a guaranteed fix. In an EA game, first try EA’s account-linking steps; then check whether the problem continues. PlayStation has not published an exact-code explanation in the sources available here.
When does WV-109156-2 appear?
Player reports place the code during online connection or account-access flows, including in Need for Speed Unbound and EA Sports FC 24. One Need for Speed Unbound player described it while the game was connecting to EA, alongside an SSL connect error. These reports show when some players encountered the code, but they do not establish that every occurrence has the same cause. EA forum report about Need for Speed Unbound; EA FC 24 forum thread.
Is WV-109156-2 a PSN or EA error?
The exact technical cause is unconfirmed. In an EA Sports FC 24 forum thread, EA Community Manager Darko described the code as a PSN error. That is a forum response in a particular game context, not an official PlayStation definition proving that all cases originate with PSN. The linked PlayStation guidance in that thread concerned a different code, WV-109146-1, rather than WV-109156-2. EA FC 24 forum thread.
What to try if it happens in an EA game
Check EA account linking
For the EA FC 24 discussion, EA Community Manager Darko suggested this account-linking check. It is a low-impact step when the error appears in an EA game, but it is not a guaranteed fix for every occurrence.

Consider the game-specific history
An EA forum update on the Need for Speed Unbound report said the issue was believed resolved at that time and offered account-linking steps if it continued. That update is historical and specific to that game; it does not confirm current EA or PSN service status. Need for Speed Unbound forum thread.

Should you restart the console or rebuild its database?
Some players reported trying a cold restart or rebuilding the PS5 database, but those are user anecdotes, not verified general remedies for WV-109156-2. The available information does not establish that either action fixes the code. Start with the account-linking check when relevant rather than making disruptive system changes based on those reports alone. EA forum thread with player reports.
