Its confirmed headline specifications include a custom AMD Radeon graphics engine rated at 16.7 TFLOPS, the same 8-core/16-thread Zen 2 CPU configuration as PS5, and a 2 TB SSD. Sony claims up to 45% faster gameplay rendering than PS5, but that is a manufacturer figure—not a universal result—and the benefit depends on each game’s implementation.

How much more powerful is PS5 Pro than PS5?
The CPU configuration remains Zen 2 with 8 cores and 16 threads on both consoles. The main hardware change is graphics capability: Sony’s 2020 PS5 specification page lists an RDNA 2-based GPU rated up to 10.3 TFLOPS, while the Pro manual lists an RDNA-based graphics engine rated at 16.7 TFLOPS. Those figures describe each console’s GPU compute rating, but they do not by themselves predict frame rates or establish a direct performance ratio across every game.

#1 Best Overall
- Ray Tracing - Immerse yourself in worlds with a new level of realism as rays of light are individually simulated, creating true-to-life shadows and reflections in supported PS5 games.
- Faster Loading - Fast-travel across the map and get back into the game almost instantly with the PlayStation 5 console’s ultra-high-speed SSD and fast load times.
- Stunning Visuals - Experience the vast world in stunning 4K and HDR at 120 FPS (with a 4K and HDR compatible TV or display)
- Breathtaking Immersion - Discover a deeper gaming experience with support for haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and 3D Audio technology.
- Backwards Compatibility - Play over 4,000 PS4 games on PS5. Enjoy faster and smoother frame rates in some of the PS4 console's greatest games.
Sony says PS5 Pro has 67% more GPU Compute Units and 28% faster memory than PS5, enabling up to 45% faster gameplay rendering. It also says the Pro’s advanced ray tracing can run at more than twice PS5 speed. Treat these as Sony’s claims, not independently established results for every title. The company notes that enhanced features are available only in selected games and vary by game.
The original PS5 was listed with 825 GB of SSD storage. That is not the capacity of every later revision: Sony’s later PS5 model manual lists 1 TB for that model. PS5 Pro has a 2 TB SSD. Sources: Sony’s original PS5 specifications; Sony PS5 Pro manual.

Sony’s Game Boost can stabilize or improve performance in supported PS5 and PS4 titles. Sony says it can apply to more than 8,500 backward-compatible PS4 games, but that is not a promise of a specific resolution or frame rate in every game. The “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label identifies games with tailored Pro features; Sony says those features differ by title. Source: PlayStation 5 Pro.
What PS5 Pro changes in games
The most useful comparison is the mode available in a particular game, not the console’s TFLOPS figure in isolation. Check whether a title has a PS5 Pro patch and compare its resolution, image reconstruction, frame-rate target and ray-tracing options. One game-specific example comes from Naughty Dog: Lead Programmer Vincent Marxen said The Last of Us Part I Remastered would offer a Pro-enhanced mode rendering at 1440p and upscaling to 4K with PSSR while maintaining a 60 fps target. That is a developer description of one mode in one game, not an independent measurement or a promise for other titles.
Sony’s PlayStation Pro page also attributes a 60 FPS enhanced-mode statement for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to director Naoki Hamaguchi of Square Enix. Keep such claims attached to their named game and speaker: performance modes and improvements are not interchangeable across a library. Source: PlayStation 5 Pro.
Does PS5 Pro use NVIDIA DLSS or AMD FSR?
No. PS5 Pro’s named upscaling technology is PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), which Sony describes as machine-learning-based AI upscaling. It is a PlayStation feature; the cited Sony material does not identify it as DLSS or FSR.

QSSR also comes to selected base PS5 games
In an October 1, 2026 announcement, Sony introduced Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR) for base PS5. Sony describes QSSR as a faster performance tier using a streamlined neural network and a hand-tuned PS5 implementation, developed from Project Amethyst, its graphics collaboration with AMD. Sony says QSSR improves image detail and stability on PS5, while PSSR remains the gold standard on PS5 Pro. Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei were the first announced QSSR titles, with patches scheduled for that day. These are Sony’s descriptions; they do not establish that QSSR, PSSR, DLSS and FSR deliver equivalent image quality or performance. Source: Sony’s QSSR announcement.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What NVIDIA or AMD graphics card is PS5 Pro equivalent to?
The cited official specifications do not name a retail NVIDIA GeForce or AMD Radeon desktop card equivalent to PS5 Pro. Both PlayStation consoles use custom AMD Radeon graphics, and Sony lists the Pro at 16.7 TFLOPS, but a console GPU rating cannot be converted into a reliable PC graphics-card match on its own.
A meaningful console-to-PC comparison needs matched tests in named games, at stated settings and resolutions, on a specified PC configuration. Console hardware and game optimization differ, and the official materials cited here do not provide a common NVIDIA/AMD benchmark suite, power comparison or game-by-game PC test. A precise desktop-card equivalent is therefore not established by these specifications.
Is PS5 Pro worth it for 4K gaming?
It is most relevant if you play games with Pro-specific modes and value their particular combination of resolution, reconstructed image quality, frame rate and ray tracing. Sony’s claims and developer descriptions show what selected games may offer; they do not guarantee that every PS5 game will render native 4K, run at a higher frame rate or use more ray tracing on Pro. For a purchase decision, check the exact games you play and the mode each game supports rather than relying on the “up to 45%” figure alone.
Storage and physical media can also affect the comparison. PS5 Pro includes a 2 TB SSD and an M.2 expansion connector. Its Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive is optional and sold separately, so include that separate purchase if you need to play discs. Sony’s announcement confirms the console’s launch and upgrade features; it does not establish a current price or stock level. Sources: Sony’s PS5 Pro launch announcement; Sony PS5 Pro manual.
