There is no single dependable PS5 Pro trade-in value: the amount depends on the exact configuration, condition, included components, retailer and day you ask. Compare the money or usable store credit you would actually keep—not a headline maximum—with the likely net from a private sale after fees, shipping and effort.
What determines a PS5 Pro trade-in quote?
Retailer quotes are conditional, and a displayed maximum is not a guaranteed payout. GameStop says its prices are valid for that day, full value requires a fully working console and necessary components, and trades are subject to manager approval and store availability. The final appraisal may therefore differ from the amount shown online.

Configuration matters too. A PS5 Pro listed with a disc drive installed may receive a different offer from a console listed without one. Get a quote for your exact model and configuration, and confirm which controller, cords and other components the retailer requires.

GameStop: compare cash with credit
Use GameStop’s current PS5 Pro trade page to check the exact listing on the day you plan to trade. Record cash and store-credit offers separately, and verify whether your local store participates.

For context, a GameStop page snapshot generated September 10, 2026 showed up to $550 in regular store credit or $385 in regular cash for the base “Sony PlayStation 5 Pro Console” listing. A separate listing for a PS5 Pro with disc drive installed showed up to $600 in regular credit or $420 in regular cash. Both offers expired at the end of that business day; they are historical examples, not current October 7, 2026 quotes. Base console listing; disc-drive-installed listing.
Credit is worth its face amount only if you will use it for spending you would have made anyway. If it would push you into an unwanted purchase, treat its practical value as lower than cash. GameStop’s trade instructions say to bring the saved trade summary and items, include cords, power chargers and related accessories, charge devices, and delete personal data. Its terms say trades are final.
Best Buy: obtain a model-specific appraisal
Best Buy’s trade-in program offers a Best Buy eGift Card and advertises gaming-console trade-in values “up to $375.” That is a category maximum, not a confirmed PS5 Pro offer. Best Buy says its offers depend on device age, condition, required accessories and current resale prices. Use its trade-in appraisal for the exact model or ask a participating store to evaluate it, then compare the resulting gift-card value with cash offers.
Use the new price only as a reference point
Sony’s U.S. recommended retail price for PS5 Pro is $899.99, effective April 2, 2026. That is a new-product benchmark, not evidence of what a used console will sell for; used value depends on the local market, condition, configuration and included items. Sony’s March 27, 2026 pricing announcement.
How to estimate a private-sale net
Do not treat an active listing’s asking price as proof of what a buyer will pay. Look at recent completed sales for the same configuration and similar condition, and compare several relevant local listings. There is no reliable universal private-sale price established here; location, timing, accessories and whether the disc drive is installed can all change the result.
Calculate what you would keep, rather than comparing a private-sale gross price with a retailer’s cash offer:

Estimated private-sale net = likely sale price − marketplace fees − shipping and packing − listing or promotion costs − expected return or dispute costs.
Include your time for creating the listing, answering messages, arranging pickup or packing and shipping. If a potential buyer’s negotiation or a dispute would materially affect your decision, account for that uncertainty as well.

For eBay, fees depend on the category and your account. Its U.S. fee information describes an insertion fee, with up to 250 zero-insertion-fee listings monthly for eligible sellers, and a final-value fee based on a percentage of the transaction total plus a per-order charge. The per-order charge is $0.40 for orders above $10; the fee base can include the item price, shipping, handling and sales tax. Check the fee details and calculator for your account and listing. A separate 7.35% rate for video game consoles applies to Store subscribers on sales up to $2,500; it is not a universal rate.

Choose the best net outcome that meets your timing and convenience needs. A lower cash offer can be the better choice when speed and certainty matter; a private sale makes sense when the likely net premium is meaningful enough to justify the extra work.
One promotion that is not a PS5 Pro buyback
PlayStation Direct’s U.S. promotion offers an extra $50 voucher toward eligible PS5 or PS5 Pro purchases after a qualifying PS4 trade-in through Back Market. The published terms give October 31, 2026 as the last redemption date and say the offer may change or be canceled. It does not buy back a PS5 Pro, so it is relevant only if you are upgrading and still have an eligible PS4. Read the PlayStation Direct trade-in offer terms.
