That is a reported compatibility window—not proof that every PS5, game, payload, or online feature works. Sony has not made a direct statement in the cited sources confirming concern about Relapse, so claims that the company “must be sweating” remain speculation.
Which PS5 firmware can be jailbroken?
As of Tom’s Hardware’s September 30, 2026 report, Relapse was reported to support PS5 firmware 7.00 through 13.60. The report describes a browser exploit combined with kernel exploits, enabling kernel read/write access and support for payloads. Read Tom’s Hardware’s dated report.
This range should be treated as a snapshot, not a promise of universal compatibility. A firmware range alone does not establish support for every console model, payload, game, or PlayStation Network service. The source does not establish that all those capabilities work across every supported version.
Why does firmware 14.00 matter?
Tom’s Hardware also reported that firmware 14.00 had arrived and that some game updates were requesting it. For someone on older software, that can create a trade-off: keeping a firmware version within Relapse’s reported range may mean foregoing updates or features that ask for a newer version. The report does not say that every game requires 14.00.

Compatibility reporting can change as Sony releases firmware or the project changes. Before making a decision, check the current project information and dated reporting rather than assuming this range remains current.
Does updating my PS5 remove jailbreak compatibility?
If the installed version becomes newer than the reported 13.60 ceiling, it falls outside the range in Tom’s Hardware’s report. That does not establish whether a later Relapse release will support it. Sony’s US licence says system software updates may include security patches, and the official support page provides update and reinstall procedures. Sony does not present those procedures as a way to preserve unofficial exploit compatibility.

What Relapse’s exploit announcement does—and does not—establish
Kernel access is not the same as unrestricted control
The reported kernel read/write access and payload support are meaningful technical capabilities, but they do not by themselves establish hypervisor control, support for every homebrew payload, Linux functionality, reliable online play, or any other capability not specified in the report.

Different projects are not interchangeable
The PS5 UMTX project documents CVE-2024-43102 and describes its own constraints, including limited firmware support and no support for firmware 6.00 and later without another WebKit exploit. Those are UMTX-specific details, not Relapse’s compatibility limits. See the UMTX project documentation.
Security mitigations explain why exploits are difficult
In a 2026 Hardwear.io presentation, security researcher SpecterDev discussed PS5 mitigations including ASLR, SMAP/SMEP, software control-flow integrity, and execute-only memory. The presentation explains why exploiting the system is challenging; it is researcher analysis, not an official Sony statement or evidence that any particular exploit is impossible. What are the practical risks of using unofficial system software?
Sony’s support guidance covers official updating and reinstalling, not Relapse. The company warns that reinstalling system software deletes console data and that unofficial update files can cause problems. Its support information also describes possible warranty or repair consequences for modified systems. Consult the applicable official guidance before taking any action; do not assume reinstalling will preserve data or restore a console to an unaffected state.
Sony’s PS5 system software support page explains official update and reinstallation procedures. The cited instructions do not establish a supported rollback method to an earlier firmware version.

Has Sony responded to Relapse?
The sources cited here do not contain a direct Sony statement about Relapse or evidence of the company’s private reaction. Sony’s public materials do establish that it prohibits bypassing PS5 security mechanisms under its US licence and publishes security disclosures and a vulnerability-reporting route. Those policies provide context, but they are not a specific response to this reported jailbreak.
Sony’s UK product security page lists April 2030 as the minimum security update period for the PS5 model numbers named there. That is a UK disclosure, not a guarantee that PlayStation Network or any other online service will remain available until that date. The page also explains how to report vulnerabilities.
