How a retailer return differs from Sony’s warranty

Sony’s limited hardware warranty is a separate manufacturer commitment for qualifying defects in materials or workmanship.
For a materially defective product covered during the warranty period, Sony’s stated remedy is repair or replacement with a factory-recertified product, at Sony’s option and subject to the warranty terms. Before buying or starting a return, check the order page, listing, and receipt for the applicable seller, deadline and start date, eligible condition, refund or exchange options, shipping or restocking terms, and any membership or seasonal extension. Do not assume a bundle, open-box unit, marketplace listing, or holiday purchase uses the same terms as another PS5 purchase.
Who to contact if a new PS5 is defective
While the seller’s return window is open
Start with the seller if the console arrived damaged, defective, or incorrect. Best Buy’s policy, for example, directs customers to return such items during the applicable return and exchange period. Follow the order-specific instructions and retain proof of the purchase and the issue.

For a defect covered by Sony’s warranty
If the seller’s return period has passed, or you need warranty service, use Sony’s repairs process to request authorization and get shipping instructions. Sony’s US and Canada warranty lasts one year from the original purchase date for the original purchaser, subject to the warranty terms. Prepare the console before sending it for service

- Keep your purchase proof. Have the dated receipt or other proof showing the original purchase date available for the service request.
Check region, seller, and warranty eligibility
Sony’s cited PS5 limited hardware warranty applies only in the United States and Canada; do not assume its one-year term applies in other countries. Local consumer rights may also vary. Sony’s direct-store return policy applies only to purchases made from PlayStation Direct, so a console bought elsewhere is subject to that seller’s applicable terms. - The separate manufacturer warranty and the service route for a covered defect.
