Both collections offer six games and TATE play. For a collection with documented replay, ranking and display options, Darius Cozmic Collection is a distinct alternative—but its appeal is centered on Darius rather than Psikyo’s different series.
What is the difference between Psikyo Alpha and Bravo?
The main difference is the games included, not a documented difference in supported play modes. Nintendo lists both as digital Switch collections with six titles, TV, tabletop and handheld modes, one-to-two players on a single system, and Japanese and American English language support. Both product pages also describe vertical TATE play.
| Collection | Games | Best fit | Nintendo-listed release date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Psikyo Shooting Stars Alpha | Strikers 1945; Strikers 1945 II; Strikers 1945 III; Sol Divide; Dragon Blaze; Zero Gunner 2 | Players most interested in the Strikers series | January 21, 2020 |
| Psikyo Shooting Stars Bravo | Samurai Aces Episode I; Samurai Aces Episode II: TENGAI; Samurai Aces Episode III: SENGOKU CANNON; Gunbarich; Gunbird; Gunbird 2 | Players drawn to Gunbird and Samurai Aces, or to a lineup with a breakout-style game | February 18, 2020 |
These are selection-based recommendations: the listed games establish the difference in focus, but do not make either collection objectively better. Nintendo Life’s March 2020 review identifies Gunbird and Gunbird 2 as likely draws in Bravo and describes the Samurai Aces games as varied; those are the reviewer’s judgments, not objective measures of quality. How does Darius Cozmic Collection compare?
Darius Cozmic Collection is the clearest alternative in this comparison if you want features aimed at score-chasing and revisiting runs, rather than choosing between Psikyo series. Taito documents online high-score rankings for arcade versions, automatic replay recording with up to five saved replays, replay controls that include speed adjustment, and scanline and smoothing options. The official page also explains that versions of Darius II differ in enemy placement, boss durability and balance. Taito’s Darius Cozmic Collection page.

What should you know about responsiveness and practice options?
Nintendo Life’s March 2020 review of Bravo criticizes the Switch ports for high input lag and for lacking extras such as stage select or training options. Treat this as a dated review assessment, not a latency measurement or confirmation of current behavior: the evidence here does not independently test input lag or establish whether later software updates changed it. Nintendo Life’s 2020 review of Darius Cozmic Collection discusses save states, replay functions and controller configuration, while also noting limitations in those features. Which collection should you choose?
- Pick Alpha if the three Strikers 1945 entries are the main reason you want the collection.
- Pick Bravo if you prefer Gunbird and Gunbird 2, want the Samurai Aces games, or welcome Gunbarich’s different breakout-and-pinball approach. Nintendo Life describes Gunbarich as mixing those elements with shooter features.
- Compare Darius Cozmic Collection if Darius is your priority or its documented rankings, replays and display options matter more to you than the Psikyo lineups.
What is established about Switch modes and editions?
Nintendo’s US store pages list Alpha and Bravo as digital editions and show TV, tabletop and handheld play, one-to-two players on a single system, Japanese and American English, and TATE play. They also note that additional accessories may be required.
