Then link the same account in the destination game and load the save from Load Game. This is especially important when moving between console base and Complete/GOTY editions, whose local saves are treated as separate products.
Transfer your save with Cross Progression
- Update the source game. If you are moving from PS4 to PS5, CD PROJEKT RED’s instructions specify that the PS4 game must be on Patch 4.04. See the PlayStation transfer instructions.
- Enable Cross Progression on the source. Open Load Game, choose the Cross Progression control shown in the menu, and link the game to your CD PROJEKT RED account if prompted. The exact menu presentation may vary by platform; CD PROJEKT RED’s Xbox guide documents the feature.
- Create a save and confirm the upload. Make a new save in the source game, then check that a cloud icon appears beside it. Cross Progression provides the latest save for each save type, and the icon confirms the save is associated with the cloud feature.
- Link the destination to the same account. Start the destination game and sign in to the exact same CD PROJEKT RED account through My Rewards. The account connection is managed through The Witcher 3 My Rewards page.
- Load the transferred save. Open Load Game on the destination and select the uploaded save.
What changes by platform or edition?
PS4 to PS5
Follow CD PROJEKT RED’s PlayStation-specific procedure: update the PS4 game to Patch 4.04, link the account through My Rewards, create a save to upload, and connect the PS5 game to that same account. Then look for the save in the PS5 version’s Load Game menu. Official PS4-to-next-gen transfer guidance.
Nintendo Switch saves
If your Switch save was previously handled through the older GOG/Steam cloud-save integration, use Cross Progression introduced in update 4.04 instead. Link your account, create a save and verify its cloud icon, then load it on the destination platform from Load Game. Nintendo Switch Cross Progression instructions.
Base Game, GOTY and Complete Edition on console
Console local saves do not directly match between the regular/base game and the GOTY or Complete Edition because consoles treat them as separate products. CD PROJEKT RED identifies Cross Progression as the route for continuing a base-game playthrough in the other edition. See the save-recognition guidance.

Check the save’s expansions and DLC
The destination installation must include the game content used by the save. A base-game save with no expansions can load in Complete Edition; a save made with Complete Edition content cannot load in a base-game installation unless the required expansions and DLC are installed. Check that Hearts of Stone, Blood and Wine, and any other relevant DLC are available in the destination. CD PROJEKT RED’s edition and content FAQ.

Edition labels have changed. CD PROJEKT RED’s September 2026 FAQ says the Base Game is replaced by Complete Edition, with the two expansions merged in. Its Remastered FAQ says existing Witcher 3 saves are compatible with Remastered, but skills reset because the skill system was overhauled. The developer announced on September 29, 2026, that Remastered replaces Complete Edition on supported platforms. Check the game label and platform you are actually using before following instructions written for an older release.

If the save does not appear or load
- Confirm Cross Progression is enabled on the source and the save has a cloud icon beside it.
- Check that both game versions are linked to the same CD PROJEKT RED account.
- Verify that the source save was created after enabling Cross Progression so it can upload.
- Check that the destination includes the expansions and DLC used by the save.
- If the issue involves console base and GOTY/Complete editions, use Cross Progression rather than expecting the local save to be recognized directly.
