Yes—KRAFTON has ended development of PUBG: Black Budget, its planned extraction-shooter spin-off. The PUBG: Black Budget team said it decided the game’s current direction would not deliver an experience players could enjoy over the long term. The announcement does not give a more specific internal production or commercial explanation.
Why was PUBG: Black Budget cancelled?
In an announcement displayed as September 30 on the official Steam Community page, the PUBG: Black Budget team wrote: “After reviewing the project’s development status and future direction, we concluded that its current direction would not allow us to deliver an experience players could enjoy over the long term.”
That is the team’s stated rationale. It does not identify a particular test issue, sales result, budget decision, or production problem as the cause. Aju Press dates the announcement October 1, 2026, so the date depends on the source: the Steam post displays September 30, while the news report is dated October 1.
What was Black Budget, and was it released?
Black Budget was planned as a first-person extraction shooter set on Coli, an island caught in a time loop. Aju Press reported that matches were designed for up to 45 players in three-person squads. The game never received a release date, and the available reporting does not establish that it was commercially released or offered for purchase.

What did players report during the alpha tests?
First closed alpha
The first closed alpha ended on December 21, 2025. In its closeout post, the team said testers repeatedly raised concerns about combat perception, situational clarity, and fatigue during repeated runs. It also noted reports of unauthorized programs, stability issues, and crashes. These are issues the studio said testers raised; the post does not say any one of them caused the cancellation.
Second closed alpha
The second closed alpha ran June 26–29, 2026, with schedules for East Asia, Europe, and North America. The official schedule said the test was not under NDA, so participants could stream, record, and share gameplay. The test schedule and the first alpha closeout are posted on the official Steam news hub.

What happens to the project now?
KRAFTON thanked players who took part in the closed alpha tests and shared feedback. The team said: “PUBG STUDIOS will carry what we learned from development and testing into future projects, continuing to listen to players as we explore new gameplay experiences.” It did not announce a revival of Black Budget or name a successor project.
The December 2025 closeout had said the team was reviewing feedback and preparing to welcome players back. That earlier plan was superseded by the later announcement ending development.
