Oji Hiroi says he came up with a plot concept for a possible Sakura Wars 6 after discussions about making another game. RPG Site describes the idea as a direct sequel to Sakura Wars V: So Long, My Love. The remarks do not mean SEGA has approved or begun developing a new game.
What Hiroi said about Sakura Wars 6
In Weekly Famitsu coverage summarized by RPG Site and Gematsu, Hiroi explained that the idea came about because there had been discussions about making a next game. That makes it an existing concept, not an announcement that a sequel is in production.
RPG Site characterizes the concept as a direct sequel to Sakura Wars V: So Long, My Love. Hiroi also said a hypothetical numbered entry would be written “6,” rather than “VI.” That was a comment about how he would style a potential game, not a formal title reveal.
The only disclosed story detail is Black Swan
Hiroi mentioned “a character named Black Swan who is in cryogenic hibernation,” according to Gematsu’s translation of the interview. RPG Site’s translated excerpt renders the detail as a character “being put into a cold sleep.” The reports do not provide a fuller synopsis, explain Black Swan’s role, or identify other characters or story events.

There is no confirmed prototype or production
Hiroi said he would properly consider working on the idea if he were asked to help make a prototype with a team in place and compensation arranged. As Gematsu reports, the existence of a plot does not mean Sakura Wars 6 is in development. No approved project, prototype, platform, or release date was announced.
Hiroi also said he might no longer have the plot on his computer and declined to identify who might have another copy. The interview therefore does not establish that a complete, usable script is available.

Other franchise comments are separate from the concept
The anniversary coverage included other remarks about the series, but none confirms Sakura Wars 6:
- SEGA producer Akira Nishino said the company wants to bring the original games through Sakura Wars V to modern platforms, while citing unspecified circumstances that make progress difficult. No ports, platforms, or schedule were announced.
- Nishino said he has a vision for continuing New Sakura Wars (2019) through its conclusion, without confirming a sequel or saying how that vision would be realized.
- Scenario writer Satoru Akahori said he had recently become “just a little involved” with something related to the franchise, but could not yet explain what it was.
- RPG Site reported that Nishino and Takaharu Terada discussed involving younger staff so they can inherit the series’ core ideas. The interview also described annual proposals for franchise projects, including a stage production and the now-defunct mobile game Sakura Revolution.
These comments point to continuing interest in the franchise, but the reports do not connect them to a confirmed sixth game.
