PUBG has not confirmed that sound improvements are coming later in 2026. Its 2025 roadmap mentioned a broad plan to polish gameplay sounds, but the official 2026 roadmap materials reviewed do not give an audio-update date or describe specific sound changes.
What PUBG has actually announced about sound
The PUBG team’s 2025 roadmap said it was “polishing various UI elements and gameplay sounds to improve visual and audio feedback, creating a more immersive combat experience.” That is a general development intention: it does not identify particular audio features, platforms, or a release window.
The reviewed 2026 roadmap discusses ranked play, seasonal events, onboarding, console performance, and additional modes, but does not announce a sound update. Nor does PUBG’s July 8, 2026 console experience roadmap, which covers graphics modes, menu loading, hit detection, and controls. Those pages do not confirm the claim that sound improvements are scheduled for later this year.
Why the 2020 footstep changes don’t confirm a new update
PUBG did publish specific audio changes for Update 8.1 in July 2020. The patch notes described improvements to core sound quality and detail, better footstep quality over distance, and reduced differences between bare-foot and shoe sounds. A developer letter further explained that shoe and barefoot footsteps were equalized in volume at close range and sounded the same at mid-to-long distances. It also noted that work on other sound issues and volume balance was ongoing at that time.
