Defeating it awards the Remembrance of Putrescence, which can be exchanged for one of two boss items or used for runes. Holy damage and Scarlet Rot are listed as weaknesses by secondary guides; for the phase-two ghostflame pulse, one guide recommends jumping over it.
Where to find the Putrescent Knight
The boss is located in Stone Coffin Fissure, a region in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. A guide describes the encounter as optional, so defeating it is not presented as a requirement for completing the main game.
Rewards for defeating the boss
The Putrescent Knight drops the Remembrance of Putrescence. The in-game remembrance can be consumed for runes or exchanged for one of two rewards:
- Putrescence Cleaver
- Vortex of Putrescence
The item’s description also provides the boss’s connection to St. Trina: “All tainted flesh eventually becomes putrescence, and this clump of it imbibed St. Trina’s nectar, which granted it eternal rest. And so it was that putrescence became her knight.”

Damage types
Fandom’s Elden Ring Wiki lists Holy damage and Scarlet Rot as weaknesses. These are secondary-source recommendations rather than officially documented game data, so treat them as useful options to try, not a guaranteed best setup for every build.
Handling the phase-two ghostflame pulse
A Tarnished Wiki guide dated October 2, 2026 advises jumping over the phase-two ghostflame pulse. Use the jump as a timing cue when the pulse spreads across the arena; the guide does not establish a universal timing window or guarantee that every attack in the sequence can be avoided the same way.

Fandom’s Elden Ring Wiki lists 20,612 HP and a reward of 220,000 runes. Those values are secondary-source claims, with no year stated for the listing; they have not been independently verified against official game data.

The Remembrance of Putrescence describes the creature as tainted flesh that became putrescence, imbibed St. Trina’s nectar, and became her knight. This is in-game lore text, rather than a separate explanation from an external narrator.
