“The program can’t start because pxsub.dll is missing from your computer.”
If Windows reports that pxsub.dll was not found, could not be loaded, or is missing, the file usually belongs to an old Prassi or VERITAS optical-disc application. It is not a normal Windows component, Microsoft runtime, DirectX file, or hardware driver.
The safest repair is to identify the program requesting the file and reinstall that complete application. Do not begin by downloading an isolated DLL and copying it into a Windows folder.

- The error names an old CD, DVD, mastering, or duplication program: reinstall that exact program from its original installer, vendor media, or trusted OEM recovery media.
- The program is PrimoDVD or reports that “The Px Engine did not load correctly”: use the product-specific Px Engine removal and reinstall procedure below.
- The error appeared after replacing a hard drive, reinstalling Windows, or restoring an old backup: reinstall the parent application rather than copying only
pxsub.dll. - Windows Security quarantined the file: inspect Protection history, but prefer reinstalling the complete application from trusted media.
- The file exists, but Windows says “The specified module could not be found”: a dependency may be missing. Reinstall the parent application before trying Windows repair commands.

What pxsub.dll is
The file’s reported internal description is “Various Services”, and its product association is Prassi Products. Historical evidence connects it with the Prassi Px Engine, which was licensed for software including VERITAS MyCD and MyCD Pro.
The Px Engine handled functions used by optical-disc software, such as CD or DVD recording, mastering, and duplication. Related installations may include a group of files rather than pxsub.dll alone:

The exact product inventory is not completely documented, but likely sources include:
- Prassi PrimoDVD or PrimoCD-era software
- VERITAS MyCD and MyCD Pro
- OEM disc-duplication applications embedding the Px Engine

“Various Services” is a file description, not the name of an application you should search for in the Start menu. The important clue is the program that displays the error.
pxsub.dll is not identified as a protected Windows system file. Windows does not normally install it as part of Windows 10 or Windows 11.
Step 1: Identify the program that needs the file
Reinstalling the wrong application will not repair the error. First find the parent program.
Check the error window
Read the title bar and the first line of the message. The application name may appear before the missing-file warning.
Also check:
- The shortcut you used to start the program
- The program name shown in Task Manager
- The folder containing the program’s executable
- The publisher listed in the application’s shortcut properties
To inspect a shortcut:
- Right-click the shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, read Target.
- Note the program folder and executable name.
- Select Cancel when finished.
Do not delete or rename files in that folder yet.
Check Event Viewer
Event Viewer may identify the executable involved even when the pop-up is vague:

- Type
eventvwr.msc. - Press Enter.
- Expand Windows Logs.
- Select Application.
- In the right pane, select Find.
- Search for
pxsub.dll. - Open any matching event and read the application name, faulting module, and file path.
Event Viewer may show a generic loader message rather than the precise cause. Treat it as a clue, not proof that pxsub.dll itself is the only damaged file.
Check installed applications
- Press Windows key + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for terms such as
PrimoDVD,PrimoCD,MyCD,VERITAS, or the name of the duplication software. - Select the application and look for Modify, Repair, or Uninstall.
If the program is absent from this list, it may have been restored from a backup, installed from removable media, or left behind after Windows was reinstalled.

Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the parent application
This is the most reliable solution for pxsub.dll.
Before uninstalling, preserve any installer files, license information, project files, custom labels, and device settings. Old disc-burning software may require an original serial number or installation disc.
Try the built-in repair option
If the application offers repair:
- Press Windows key + I.
- Select Apps.
- Open Installed apps or Apps & features.
- Select the affected program.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
If there is no Repair option, open Control Panel:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select the affected program.
- Choose Repair or Change, if available.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows.
Reinstall from trusted original media
If repair is unavailable or fails:
- Uninstall the affected disc-burning or duplication program.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the original installer.
- Install the complete application, including its recording engine and supporting files.
- Restart Windows again.
- Launch the program from its normal shortcut.
If Windows blocks the installer, right-click it and select Run as administrator. Do not install a replacement pxsub.dll from a separate download page.

The repair worked if the application opens without the missing-file message and can reach its normal main window. If the program opens but cannot detect a burner or duplicator, that is a separate hardware or driver issue.
Fix 2: Use the documented PrimoDVD Px Engine procedure
This procedure applies specifically to PrimoDVD installations or a matching Px Engine error. Do not apply it automatically to every program that mentions pxsub.dll.
The vendor’s documented error is:
“The Px Engine did not load correctly. This is probably because some mandatory dlls are missing or damaged. Please try to reinstall the application.”
Before continuing, save your installer, license information, and application settings. The following steps remove four files from the Windows system directory.

- Open File Explorer.
- Select This PC.
- Open the drive containing Windows, normally Local Disk (C:).
- Open the Windows folder.
- Open System32.
- Locate these files:

Px.dll
PxMas.dll
PxSub.dll
PxWave.dll
- Delete those four files.
- Approve the administrator prompt if Windows asks.
- Reinstall PrimoDVD from the original or trusted vendor package.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch PrimoDVD.
If one or more files are not present, continue with the reinstall rather than searching for isolated replacements. If Windows refuses to delete a file because it is in use, restart Windows and try again before launching the application.
This procedure is product-specific. Do not remove similarly named files from System32 merely because another application reports a missing pxsub.dll.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine an old application file. Older binaries may also be flagged because they are uncommon, even when they came from legitimate installation media.
To inspect Windows Security:
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open the app.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an entry mentioning
pxsub.dllor the affected application. - Open the entry and read the detected path and action.
Do not restore the file automatically. First confirm that:

- The file was installed by the legitimate application.
- The installer came from the original vendor, OEM, or your own trusted installation media.
- The file path belongs to the expected application.
- The detection is not associated with a modified or unofficial installer.
Microsoft warns that restoring a genuinely malicious file can expose the device. If the file was quarantined from an old or uncertain installer, remove the old installation and reinstall the complete application from trusted media instead.
After reinstalling, update Windows Security and run a full scan.
Fix 4: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
The commonly catalogued Px Engine builds are described as 32-bit, and the applications associated with them are legacy 32-bit programs. A 32-bit application needs a compatible 32-bit DLL. A 64-bit file with a similar name is not an interchangeable replacement.
On 64-bit Windows:
%windir%System32is generally the native 64-bit system directory.%windir%SysWOW64is commonly used for 32-bit system components and redirection.
This naming is unintuitive, so do not use folder names as a reason to download or manually move a DLL.
The correct architecture comes from the original application installer. Reinstalling the complete program allows its installer to place the correct files in the locations expected by that program.
Architecture problems often produce messages such as:
- “The application was unable to start correctly.”
- “The file is not designed to run on Windows.”
- “Bad image.”
- “The specified module could not be found.”
If you see one of these messages, do not copy files between System32 and SysWOW64. Remove the damaged application installation and reinstall its matching package.

Fix 5: Check for a missing dependency
“The specified module could not be found” does not always mean that pxsub.dll itself is absent. The DLL may exist while another library required by it is missing or damaged.
Use this sequence:
- Confirm that the error names the correct application.
- Repair or reinstall that application.
- Restart Windows.
- Check whether the error changes or disappears.
- Review the application’s own log folder if the error remains.
Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET as a first response. No verified evidence connects those Microsoft packages to pxsub.dll specifically. Install a runtime only when the application’s original documentation or installer explicitly requires it.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Because pxsub.dll is associated with third-party software, Windows repair commands may not restore it. They are useful when other Windows components are also failing, or when the application problem began alongside broader system corruption.

Run DISM first, then SFC.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for the command to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected application.
A successful SFC scan may report that Windows Resource Protection found no integrity violations, repaired corrupted files, or found files it could not repair. None of these results confirms that the application-owned pxsub.dll was restored. If the application still reports the error, return to the parent program’s installer.

pxsub.dll is not a normal hardware driver, so Device Manager is not the primary repair location. Use it only when the program also cannot detect a CD/DVD drive, duplicator, or other recording hardware.
To inspect devices:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives.
- Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers if the hardware is external.
- Look for a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Properties.
- Read the Device status message on the General tab.
For a driver update:
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
If the device remains unavailable, obtain its driver from the hardware manufacturer or computer manufacturer. Avoid replacing pxsub.dll with a driver package.
When several hardware devices have stale drivers, manually matching versions can be time-consuming and error-prone. If the error began immediately after an installation, update, or system change, System Restore may return system files, registry settings, and installed programs to an earlier state. It does not remove personal documents.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore is not a replacement for a clean application reinstall. If the old program was copied rather than properly installed, restore may not recreate all of its Px Engine files.
Do not use these common DLL fixes
Do not download an isolated pxsub.dll
Random DLL download pages can provide malware, the wrong build, the wrong architecture, or a file that does not match the rest of the Px Engine. Copying it into System32 or SysWOW64 can also create version collisions.
Use the complete installer from the original software vendor, OEM installation media, or a trusted archived package supplied by the relevant vendor.

Duplicating a DLL in both System32 and SysWOW64 does not make it compatible with every program. Windows uses architecture-specific redirection, and the application may expect its files in its own installation directory.
Do not run regsvr32 as a routine repair
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. It does not repair a missing, damaged, or mismatched application library.
If the application vendor explicitly instructs you to register a particular DLL, follow that product-specific documentation. Otherwise, reinstall the application.

If the old program still will not run
Prassi, VERITAS MyCD, PrimoDVD, and related duplication products are legacy applications. An archived PrimoDVD package may list compatibility with older Windows releases such as Windows XP or Vista, but that does not establish full support on Windows 10 or Windows 11.

- Run the program installer as administrator.
- Try the program’s compatibility settings:
- Right-click the program shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Choose an appropriate older Windows version.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Check whether another disc-burning suite installed conflicting low-level components.
- Consider a supported replacement application.
- If the software is essential, use a suitably isolated older Windows environment rather than weakening security on the main computer.
Prevention after the repair
Once the program works:
- Keep the original installer and license information in a safe location.
- Create a backup of the application’s project files and configuration.
- Record the application version shown in Help or About.
- Do not remove old program files with a disk-cleaning utility unless you know which application uses them.
- Check Windows Security before restoring quarantined files.
- Keep a system image or restore point before major Windows changes.
- Avoid moving an installed legacy program to another computer by copying its folder alone.
