qfacebook.dll is an application DLL associated with older Viber Desktop installations, not a Windows system file. If Viber reports that it is missing or cannot be loaded, restore Viber from its official installer rather than downloading a loose DLL or copying one into a Windows folder.
What this file actually does
The filename suggests a Viber component, but it does not prove that the file belongs to Facebook or to Windows. Historical Viber file inventories associate qfacebook.dll with older desktop releases and paths such as:

%LOCALAPPDATA%Viber4.3.0.1453qfacebook.dll
%LOCALAPPDATA%Viberqfacebook.dll
Those records describe older builds. They do not prove that current Viber releases still contain this filename.

Windows normally searches an application’s own directory for its private DLLs before searching many other locations. Moving the file into a system directory can create version conflicts and security risks. See Microsoft’s DLL search order documentation.
The file is not documented as a Windows component, Microsoft runtime, graphics driver, or standard Visual C++ or DirectX library. Public third-party records include a 32-bit sample, but there is no authoritative specification showing that every copy has the same architecture, size, version, or hash.
qfacebook.dll causes and symptoms
| What you see | Most likely explanation | Correct response |
|---|---|---|
| “The program can’t start because qfacebook.dll is missing from your computer” | Viber’s installation is incomplete, damaged, or the file was removed | Reinstall Viber from its official desktop installer |
| “The code execution cannot proceed because qfacebook.dll was not found” | The Viber executable cannot locate its private component | Check the Viber folder, then perform a clean reinstall |
| “Error loading qfacebook.dll. The specified module could not be found” | The file may be missing, or a dependency used by it may be missing | Reinstall the matching Viber build as a unit |
| “The procedure entry point could not be located” | A DLL from a different release may have been substituted | Remove the mixed files and reinstall Viber |
| “qfacebook.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error” | The file may be corrupted, incompatible, or not a genuine matching Viber file | Check antivirus history and reinstall Viber |
| The error names another application | The file may belong to that application instead of Viber | Follow the named application’s official repair process |
Write down the complete error message and the application named in the dialog before changing anything. In particular, “specified module could not be found” can mean that qfacebook.dll exists but one of its dependent libraries does not.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFix 1: Reinstall Viber from the official installer
This is the primary repair for a qfacebook.dll error that appears when Viber Desktop starts.
Before uninstalling, consider the data warning below. Viber states that uninstalling desktop Viber can permanently remove local desktop data and downloaded media. Only information still available on the phone may be able to synchronize again.
- Close Viber from the notification area. Right-click the Viber icon near the clock and choose Exit, if available.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Select Rakuten Viber in the installed-program list.
- Click Uninstall or Remove.
- Follow the uninstall wizard.
- Restart Windows.
- Open a browser and go to Viber’s official website.
- Open its Download page and select the Windows installer matching your system.
- Run the downloaded installer and complete setup.
- Start Viber and activate it with the Viber account on your phone.
A clean reinstall should place the application’s files together instead of leaving an old qfacebook.dll beside a newer Viber executable. If the installer offers to remove an existing damaged installation, allow it to do so rather than preserving the old application directory.
Select the correct Viber package
The official Viber download page currently separates packages for:
- Windows 10 and Windows 11 64-bit
- Windows 32-bit
- Windows 8 and earlier
- Windows 11 on ARM
Use Settings → System → About and check System type. A 32-bit Windows installation requires the 32-bit package. On supported 64-bit Windows, use the current 64-bit package unless Viber’s setup instructions direct you otherwise.
Viber also advises trying its 32-bit installer if a downloaded installer cannot be opened or run. Do not copy qfacebook.dll from a 32-bit installation into a 64-bit installation, or the reverse. Do not combine files from different Viber releases.
If reinstalling succeeds and Viber opens without the dialog, the repair is complete. If the same error returns immediately, continue with the checks below.
Fix 2: Check whether antivirus removed the file
Security software may quarantine an application file. This is especially relevant when the Viber directory contains most of its files but qfacebook.dll is absent.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Click Protection history.
- Review recent actions involving Viber or
qfacebook.dll. - If a detection exists, read the full path and detection details.
- Do not restore the file merely because its name matches the error.
- If the detection is verified as a false positive and the file clearly came from the original Viber installation, follow your security product’s controlled restore process.
- Prefer reinstalling Viber from its official installer after confirming the security software is not blocking it.
- Run Virus & threat protection → Scan options → Full scan if the file appeared outside a Viber directory.
A file named qfacebook.dll in System32, SysWOW64, a temporary folder, or an unrelated program directory is not automatically legitimate. One public publisher record includes a low-frequency malware detection associated with a collected Viber-labelled sample. That does not prove that every legitimate Viber copy is malicious, but it is a reason not to trust a standalone download.
If antivirus repeatedly removes the file after reinstalling Viber, do not keep restoring it blindly. Check the detection name, update Windows Security definitions, and contact Viber support or your security vendor with the original installer and detection details.
Fix 3: Determine whether a dependency is missing
A loader message can identify qfacebook.dll even when the real failure is one of the libraries that it needs. Historical Viber inventories show nearby Qt and Microsoft runtime files, including names such as Qt5Core.dll, Qt5Gui.dll, msvcp100.dll, and msvcr100.dll. The exact dependency set varies by Viber build.
Use this procedure:
- Read the entire error dialog, not just its first line.
- Note whether the dialog says specified module could not be found, procedure entry point, or not designed to run on Windows.
- Check whether the message names Viber or another program.
- Do not download individual Qt or runtime DLLs from unrelated websites.
- Uninstall the affected Viber installation.
- Restart Windows.
- Install one matching Viber package as a complete set.
If Viber’s installer itself fails, right-click the installer and choose Properties. On the General tab, select Unblock if that option appears, then click Apply and try again. Also right-click the installer and choose Run as administrator.
If Windows reports that the installer cannot run, try the official 32-bit Viber package as Viber recommends. This is a compatibility test, not a reason to mix 32-bit and 64-bit application files.
Fix 4: Do not use System32 or regsvr32
Do not copy qfacebook.dll into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64. Viber expects application-private files, and placing a mismatched DLL in a system directory can cause another program to load the wrong version.

Do not use regsvr32 as a routine repair. That command is intended for DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer; there is no evidence that this Viber component is a self-registering COM DLL. Microsoft documents the command’s registration requirements in its regsvr32 reference.
If you already copied a DLL into a Windows directory, remove only the file you manually added and only if you can identify it confidently. Do not delete unrelated system files. Then reinstall Viber normally.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Fix 5: Repair Windows only when Windows has broader problems
qfacebook.dll appears to be an application-private Viber file, so System File Checker is not expected to restore it. Use Windows repair commands when you also have symptoms such as damaged Windows features, repeated system application failures, or update corruption.
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test Viber again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC in its System File Checker guidance.
Repeating these commands will not replace a missing Viber component. If both commands complete successfully but Viber still reports qfacebook.dll, return to the complete Viber reinstall.
When manually running DISM and SFC repeatedly, it can be difficult to tell which component changed or whether the repair affected the application at all. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system issues and show what it identifies; repairs are performed by the full version, and reinstalling Viber remains the definitive fix for this application DLL.
Fix 6: Check drivers only if the symptoms are wider
qfacebook.dll is not identified as a graphics, audio, chipset, or other Windows driver DLL. Driver replacement is therefore not a primary fix. Consider it only if Viber fails alongside display problems, crashes in other applications, or Device Manager errors.
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand the device category related to the wider symptom, such as Display adapters.
- Right-click the affected device and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider and status.
- Use Update Driver → Search automatically for drivers.
- If the problem began after a driver update, select Roll Back Driver when available.
- Restart Windows and test Viber.
Do not replace a working driver simply because qfacebook.dll is missing. Hunting through Device Manager for unrelated stale drivers can add another variable without repairing Viber. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify driver issues; installation of drivers is handled by the full version, and it does not replace the need to reinstall Viber for this file.
Should you download qfacebook.dll separately?
No. Random DLL download sites may supply malware, a file from the wrong Viber release, the wrong architecture, or a file whose dependencies are also absent. A loose copy can make the error change while leaving the damaged installation unresolved.
Use Viber’s official Windows download page and install the complete package. If the error names a different application, obtain that application from its developer instead.

Treat the uninstall as potentially destructive to local desktop data. Viber warns that desktop data and downloaded media may be permanently deleted, while only data available on the phone can resynchronize.
Before uninstalling:
- Confirm that important conversations or media are available on the phone.
- Copy personal files from any Viber download folder you need to keep.
- Record account details needed for desktop activation.
- Do not assume that reinstalling restores local desktop history.
If the data is critical, postpone the uninstall until you have secured what can be copied and confirmed on the phone.
If reinstalling still fails
Use this escalation order:
- Check antivirus quarantine and protection history again.
- Confirm that the installer matches Windows architecture.
- Download a fresh installer from Viber’s official page.
- Run the installer as administrator.
- Check free disk space and the permissions on the Windows user profile.
- Review Event Viewer by opening Start → Event Viewer → Windows Logs → Application and checking errors at the time Viber failed.
- Test the installer under a new Windows user account only as a diagnostic.
- Check disk health if other files are becoming corrupted.
- Consider System Restore only if the problem began immediately after a system or security-software change and a suitable restore point exists.
If the error appears in a non-Viber program, stop treating it as a Viber problem. Inspect the full path shown by the message and repair the application that actually requested the DLL.
FAQ
Is qfacebook.dll part of Windows?
No evidence identifies it as a Windows component. It is associated with older Viber Desktop installations and should normally be inside Viber’s application directory.
Recommended Free Tools
Is qfacebook.dll a Facebook library?
The filename alone does not establish that. Public records associate the file with Viber, not with a standard Windows Facebook component.
Is it 32-bit or 64-bit?
A public catalogue reports one 32-bit sample, but that does not describe every historical copy. Use the Viber installer appropriate to Windows and do not mix files between architectures or releases.
Where should qfacebook.dll be located?
In Viber’s private installation directory or a versioned directory under %LOCALAPPDATA%Viber. It should not be manually placed in System32 or SysWOW64.
Does regsvr32 fix it?
Usually not. There is no evidence that this Viber component is a self-registering COM DLL. Reinstall the complete Viber package instead.
What is the safest fix?
Uninstall the damaged Viber Desktop installation, restart Windows, download the matching official Viber installer, and reinstall it. Check antivirus history first if the file disappeared after installation.
