If Windows reports “The program can’t start because qt5quickmx64qt55.dll is missing from your computer,” the affected application is missing one of its own runtime files. You may also see “qt5quickmx64qt55.dll was not found,” “Error loading qt5quickmx64qt55.dll,” or “The specified module could not be found.”
The 60-second answer
Do not download qt5quickmx64qt55.dll from a random DLL website and do not copy it into System32.
This file appears to be a private Qt Quick library shipped with a particular third-party application or game. The filename suggests a 64-bit Qt 5.5-based build, but it does not identify the program that installed it. The safest fix is to identify that parent application, then use its repair, verification, update, or official installer.
If that does not work:
- Check whether antivirus quarantined the file.
- Repair the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime used by the application.
- Check for an x64/x86 architecture mismatch.
- Run Windows component repair only if other Windows files are also failing.
- Reinstall the affected application from its official source.
What qt5quickmx64qt55.dll does
Qt is a software framework used by Windows applications and games. Qt Quick provides the user-interface layer for applications that use QML, animated controls, hardware-accelerated graphics, and other modern interface features.

Public file indexes associate similar metadata with The Qt Company and Qt 5.5, but those catalog entries are not authoritative records for the actual file on your computer. They also do not establish which application owns it. The exact publisher, signature, hash, size, and version of your copy must be checked on the file itself.
This is normally an application-local file, not a Windows component. Qt programs commonly keep their Qt libraries beside the main executable, along with QML modules, plugins, and compiler runtime dependencies.
Why “the specified module could not be found” can be misleading
Windows may display that message when the named DLL exists but one of its dependencies does not.
For example, the application may find qt5quickmx64qt55.dll, but the Qt library may then require:
- A Microsoft Visual C++ runtime file
- Another Qt library
- A QML module
- A graphics or platform plugin
- A matching 64-bit dependency
That is why replacing one DLL at random often fails. The complete application deployment must be restored.
Find the application that owns the file
The filename alone is not enough to identify the parent program. Use these checks before reinstalling anything.
Check the error window and shortcut
Look at the title bar of the error and the application that was launching when it appeared. If it happens when starting a game, the game is the first suspect.
You can also right-click the affected shortcut, choose Properties, and inspect Target and Start in. The application folder shown there is where the missing DLL normally belongs.

If the file still exists but fails to load:
- Open File Explorer.
- Search for
qt5quickmx64qt55.dll. - Right-click the result and select Open file location.
- Note the folder containing it and the nearby executable files.
A DLL beside a game executable usually belongs to that game. A DLL inside a vendor-named program folder usually identifies the application more clearly than the filename does.
Do not move the file while investigating.
Check startup entries
If the error appears immediately after signing in to Windows:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Open Startup apps.
- Look for disabled or obsolete entries connected with the error.
- Right-click a suspicious entry and choose Open file location, if available.
Also check Settings > Apps > Startup. An old startup entry may be trying to launch an application that was partially removed.

Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the parent application
This is the most likely solution because Qt libraries are normally delivered with the application that needs them.
Microsoft Store applications
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the affected application.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Launch the application again.
If Repair does not help, return to the same screen and choose Reset. Resetting can remove local settings or saved data, so use it after Repair and back up important data first.
Steam games
- Open Steam.
- Select Library.
- Right-click the game.
- Choose Properties.
- Select Installed Files.
- Choose Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for the process to finish, then launch the game.
Steam should download the missing or damaged files from its own content servers. If verification repeatedly fails, check available disk space and whether antivirus is removing the restored file.
Epic Games Store games
- Open the Epic Games Launcher.
- Select Library.
- Find the game.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Manage.
- Select Verify.
- Start the game after verification completes.
Vendor-installed applications
Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, locate the program, and select Modify, Repair, or Uninstall, depending on what the installer provides.
If no repair option exists:
- Download the installer from the application developer’s official website or launcher.
- Close the application.
- Run the installer.
- Choose Repair or install over the existing copy if offered.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the program again.
If the installer itself is damaged, remove the application and install a fresh copy from the official source. Do not use a generic Qt installer as a replacement. A developer may have renamed or customized its Qt libraries, and a normal Qt5Quick.dll from another package is not necessarily compatible.
Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may remove a DLL after an update or false detection.
For Microsoft Defender:
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an event involving the affected application or DLL.
- Expand the event and review its path and detection details.
Restore the file only when you trust both the application and the installer that supplied it. If the program came from an unofficial package, do not restore the file. Run a scan and obtain a clean installer instead.
After restoring a trusted file, repair or verify the application anyway. That ensures the original file set is present rather than relying on a manually restored copy.

Fix 3: Repair Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable
Qt applications built with Microsoft Visual C++ can fail if the required compiler runtime is missing or damaged. The Visual C++ package does not contain qt5quickmx64qt55.dll; it supplies dependencies that the Qt library may need.
Download the current supported Visual C++ Redistributable packages from Microsoft’s official download page.

Install the x64 package for a 64-bit application. Install the x86 package too if the computer runs 32-bit applications. A 32-bit program needs x86 runtime files even on 64-bit Windows.
To repair an installed package:
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable.
- Select the relevant entry.
- Choose the three-dot menu.
- Select Modify.
- Choose Repair.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
A 64-bit DLL cannot be loaded by a 32-bit executable, and a vendor-renamed Qt 5.5 library is not interchangeable with a library from another Qt release. To check the application architecture, open Task Manager, right-click its process, and inspect the process details where Windows exposes architecture information. The most reliable source remains the application’s own installer and documentation.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix 4: Reinstall graphics or related drivers only when symptoms point there
A Qt Quick application can use graphics acceleration, but a missing DLL error is not normally fixed by installing a driver. Consider this path if the failure began immediately after a graphics driver update, the application crashes during rendering, or several graphical applications are failing.
- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Update driver and choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows.
If the problem began after a recent update, open the device’s Properties, select the Driver tab, and use Roll Back Driver if the button is available. For a clean reinstall, use the graphics manufacturer’s official installer for the exact GPU model.
Manually checking every driver means hunting model numbers, package versions, and release notes while guessing which component changed. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers; its free scan shows what it finds, while driver installation is handled by the full version. Reinstalling the affected game or application remains the definitive fix for its missing Qt file.
Fix 5: Check Windows Features only when the application requires one
Windows Features are rarely the correct home for a Qt runtime DLL. Do not enable random components hoping they will install it.
If the application’s own support instructions name a legacy Windows component:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
optionalfeatures. - Press Enter.
- Enable only the specifically required feature.
- Select OK.
- Restart Windows if requested.
For example, an older application may document a legacy compatibility component, but the missing Qt library itself still needs to come from the application installer.
Fix 6: Repair broader Windows corruption
Use DISM and SFC when Windows has additional symptoms, including broken built-in apps, failed updates, unexplained permission errors, or several unrelated programs failing. These commands repair protected Windows components, not normally application-local Qt files.
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click it.
- Choose Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Wait for it to finish. Then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows and test the application.
If either command reports that it could not complete, install pending Windows updates, restart, and run the commands again. If they complete successfully but the same application still reports the missing DLL, return to the application repair or reinstall step.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteRepeating SFC and DISM manually can leave you guessing what changed and whether the application files were ever checked. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for broader Windows problems; its free scan shows detected issues, while repair is performed by the full version. It is not a substitute for reinstalling the application that owns this Qt library.

Do not copy the DLL into System32 or SysWOW64
The correct location is normally the affected application’s folder. Copying a private DLL into a system directory can create version conflicts and DLL hijacking risks.
SysWOW64 is also not a general folder for 64-bit DLLs. Windows uses these directories for system components and architecture-specific redirection.

Do not run Regsvr32 as a repair
regsvr32 qt5quickmx64qt55.dll is not an appropriate general repair command. regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. An ordinary Qt runtime library is normally loaded directly by the application and is not registered globally.
Use it only if the application developer explicitly instructs you to do so.
Do not use a random DLL download
Third-party DLL downloads can contain malware, the wrong architecture, an incompatible Qt build, or a file with altered provenance. Even a clean-looking replacement may leave a missing dependency unresolved.
The safe sources are the affected application’s official installer, launcher verification, Microsoft’s official Visual C++ packages, and Windows Update when broader Windows repair is needed.
When System Restore is appropriate
Use System Restore only when the failure began immediately after a clearly identifiable driver, application, or system change and normal application repair failed.

What to give support
If the error remains, provide support with:
- The application or game name
- The complete error text
- Windows 10 or Windows 11 version
- The full path where the DLL is expected
- Whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit
- The launcher or installer used
- Antivirus quarantine details
- What changed immediately before the failure
- Results of repair, verification, or reinstall attempts
That information identifies the real owner and separates a missing application file from a missing dependency.
FAQ
Is qt5quickmx64qt55.dll a Windows system file?
Normally no. It is associated with a third-party Qt-based application and should generally remain in that application’s installation folder.
Can I replace it with Qt5Quick.dll?
No. The names suggest related technology, but a vendor-renamed or customized Qt library may have different exports, dependencies, and build settings.
Should I install Qt 5.5 manually?
Not for a normal end-user repair. The official Qt development archive is intended for developers and does not guarantee the exact private build required by your application.
Does Visual C++ Redistributable contain this DLL?
No. Visual C++ Redistributable supplies compiler runtime dependencies. The application installer must supply qt5quickmx64qt55.dll.
Why does the error appear at startup when I did not launch anything?
An obsolete startup entry or scheduled task may still reference an application that was removed or incompletely updated. Inspect Startup apps and Task Scheduler, then repair or uninstall the parent application properly.
What is the most reliable fix?
Identify the program that produces the error and repair or reinstall it from its official launcher or installer. That restores the correct DLL together with its matching Qt modules, plugins, and dependencies.
