There is no official RAGE:MP minimum or recommended CPU or RAM specification. The setup documentation explains operating systems, ports and configuration, but it does not publish a processor model, core count, memory figure or player-to-hardware formula. Its maxplayers value of 100 is a default setting, not proof that any particular machine can support 100 players.
More importantly, RAGE:MP’s May 25, 2026 ecosystem announcement said public toolkit access had ended, new community servers were no longer being accepted, and remaining servers were expected to cease by August 31, 2026. That date has passed. Verify what remains operational before renting a server or buying hardware for a new RAGE:MP project.

Check RAGE:MP’s status before buying anything
The platform’s lifecycle is now the first hosting requirement. In an announcement posted by administrator ragempdev on May 25, 2026, the RAGE:MP team said the public server listing would close by June 1, 2026, no new community servers would be accepted, and public toolkit access had been discontinued. The announcement stated: “All remaining community servers are expected to cease operations by August 31, 2026.” Read the official announcement for the team’s wording and migration direction.

The same announcement directed operators toward migration to FiveM. FiveM-compatible hosting is therefore a migration category to investigate, not a recommendation of any particular provider.
What the official requirements actually document
The RAGE:MP server setup guide and server-settings documentation are useful for deployment details, but neither is a hardware benchmark. Their published facts can be separated from assumptions as follows:
| Item | What the documentation says | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | No processor model, core count, clock speed or recommended tier is specified. | There is no official basis for saying a particular CPU supports a particular player count. |
| RAM | No minimum, recommended amount or player-to-memory formula is specified. A client-package RAM-cache setting appears in the settings page. | The cache option is not a system-memory sizing rule. |
| Operating system | Setup instructions cover Windows and Linux. The Linux page names Debian 10 or later, Ubuntu 18.10 or later and glibc 2.28. | Those page-era Linux notes do not prove that the platform is currently supported after the announced wind-down. |
| Game-access port | The setup guide gives port 22005 UDP as the default server-access port. | You should not assume 22005 applies if your conf.json uses another port. |
| HTTP package port | The next port, normally 22006, serves HTTP-hosted client packages. | The value follows the configured server port; it is not an unrelated universal port. |
| Player limit | maxplayers is 100 by default. |
That is a configuration default, not a tested capacity guarantee. |
| Synchronization | sync-rate is 40 milliseconds by default. |
The interval is a setting, not a performance measurement for a machine or network. |
How much RAM does a RAGE:MP server need?
The only defensible answer from the official material is that no amount is stated. Do not present 4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB or any other figure as an official minimum or recommendation. No attributable benchmark in the setup or settings pages converts player count, resources or scripts into memory consumption.

A lightly populated test instance and a busy, heavily scripted role-play server can have very different footprints.

The settings page’s RAM-cache option concerns how client packages are cached; it does not tell you how much physical memory the operating system needs. Keep that distinction when reading configuration examples or forum advice.
A practical way to size memory when a live project is confirmed
- Establish that the RAGE:MP server is still permitted and operational for your intended use.
- Start with a clean host and only the resources your project actually requires.
- Measure resident memory, swap or paging activity, and headroom while reproducing your expected player and script load.
- Leave capacity for the operating system, updates, logs and monitoring instead of assigning all installed RAM to the game process.
- Increase memory only when measurements show sustained pressure; do not infer capacity from
maxplayers=100.
Those are workload-management steps, not an official specification. If you cannot perform measurements against a currently operating project, the evidence is insufficient for a responsible hardware purchase.
What CPU is required?
The official guide supplies no CPU requirement. It does not identify a minimum generation, number of cores, clock speed or single-thread target, and it provides no validated player-count-per-CPU formula.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCPU demand is shaped by the server’s scripts and resource behavior, entity and event processing, synchronization workload, connected players and background services. Two servers with the same player count can exercise a processor very differently. A high core count does not automatically compensate for inefficient main-thread work, while a fast processor does not guarantee adequate capacity for an overloaded script set.

How to evaluate a processor without inventing a requirement
- Observe per-core utilization as well as total CPU usage; a saturated main thread can be hidden by a low overall percentage on a many-core machine.
- Record tick or frame timing, server logs and latency during representative load.
- Check for short spikes, not only averages. Bursts can cause gameplay problems even when average utilization looks safe.
- Separate game-process demand from database, web, backup and monitoring workloads on the same host.
Without current, transparent measurements from your own workload, choosing a CPU is an engineering estimate, not a documented RAGE:MP requirement.
Can you host a server on your own PC?
Historically, yes: the official documentation describes deployment on a Windows or Linux machine, so a computer you control could serve as the host if the software remained available and your network allowed inbound traffic. The documentation does not promise a particular performance level, uptime or player capacity for a home PC.
A home machine must remain powered and connected, and your router, firewall and internet service must permit the required traffic. Residential connections may use changing public addresses, carrier-grade NAT, upload limits or terms that restrict hosting. You are also responsible for operating-system updates, backups, account security and recovery after a crash or power outage.
Self-hosting versus renting a server
| Decision factor | Self-hosted Windows or Linux machine | Rented server |
|---|---|---|
| Administrative control | Complete control of hardware, operating system and firewall, with all maintenance on you. | Provider controls the physical platform; your control depends on the service’s access model. |
| Network access | You must configure the router, port forwarding, public address and firewall. | Datacenter networking is usually provisioned for you, but you still configure the instance firewall and service ports. |
| Operating-system familiarity | You install and secure Windows or Linux yourself. | The provider may offer an image or management panel, but server administration is still required unless explicitly included. |
| Cost | Uses existing equipment but incurs electricity, internet and replacement costs. | Creates a recurring hosting charge; the official RAGE:MP sources provide no price comparison. |
| Availability | Depends on your power, hardware and internet connection. | Depends on the provider and plan; the official documentation supplies no uptime or latency ranking. |
Under the current announced platform status, availability and migration eligibility matter more than selecting between these historical arrangements.

Ports, protocols and firewall setup
Port instructions are the part of the official documentation that can be applied directly, provided you use the values in your own configuration. The setup guide describes 22005 UDP for server access and 22006 for HTTP-hosted client packages. The settings page clarifies that the configured server port uses both TCP and UDP, while the next port is used for HTTP client packages.
- Open the server’s
conf.jsonand identify the configured server port. - Use that configured value for game traffic rather than assuming the default 22005.
- Allow the configured server port in the host firewall for both TCP and UDP, as specified by the settings documentation.
- Allow the next port for HTTP client packages. With the defaults, this is 22006.
- If the machine is behind a router, forward the same ports to the host’s private address.
- Confirm that the operating-system firewall, router rules and any cloud security group agree on the ports and protocols.
- Test from an external network and verify that the server process is listening on the intended interfaces.
Changing the server port changes the “next port” used for packages, so recalculate the pair after any configuration change. Keep a record of the chosen values for administrators and players.
Windows and Linux deployment notes
Windows
The official setup guide includes Windows instructions but does not attach a CPU, RAM or player-capacity promise to that platform. Apply the same principles: secure the machine, configure the firewall, verify the ports and measure the actual workload.

The guide also shows how to run the server through systemd. Its sample service uses the root user, but the documentation advises changing the service user. Follow that security guidance: create a dedicated unprivileged account, restrict file permissions and make the service start only after its required files and directories are available.
How to interpret maxplayers and sync-rate
maxplayers defaults to 100 in the server-settings documentation. It limits the configured number of connections; it does not certify that 100 players can connect smoothly on a given machine, network or script configuration.
sync-rate defaults to 40 milliseconds. This is a server setting that controls synchronization timing. It is not a benchmark, a latency guarantee or a way to calculate required CPU and RAM. Changing either setting can alter workload, so validate changes against real logs and player behavior.

Quick Recap
What to do if you are planning a project now
- Verify whether your intended RAGE:MP server can still operate under the announced ecosystem changes.
- If it cannot, do not purchase RAGE:MP-specific hardware or commit to a long hosting term.
- If an existing, authorized server remains active, inventory its actual resources, scripts, player patterns and network requirements.
- Measure CPU, memory, disk and network behavior under representative load before resizing.
- If continuing the project requires a new platform, evaluate a FiveM migration as directed by the RAGE:MP team and compare current hosting options independently.
Common mistakes and recovery checks
- Treating 100 players as a hardware guarantee: replace the assumption with measurements from the real resource set.
- Buying RAM from the cache setting: distinguish client-package caching from total system-memory demand.
- Opening only UDP 22005: inspect
conf.json, allow the configured port’s required TCP and UDP traffic, and open the next port for HTTP packages. - Using old Linux notes as proof of support: verify present platform status before deployment.
- Running the Linux service as root: change the sample service to a dedicated non-root account and review permissions.
- Ignoring the shutdown announcement: confirm that a server is allowed to continue before paying for equipment or hosting.
