Processor
The minimum CPU examples are an AMD Ryzen 3 1200 running at 3.1 GHz or an Intel Core i5-4460 running at 3.2 GHz, or better. These named models are reference points for the game’s CPU requirement. A processor with a newer architecture can be suitable even when its model name does not match exactly, but it should not be judged by clock speed alone. Compare the whole CPU model and generation, and make sure the machine is not already heavily loaded by background applications.

Steam lists 72 GB of available storage. “Available” means free space at installation time, not the total capacity printed on the drive. Leave additional working room for the operating system, updates, shader data, and other games; the published figure itself is 72 GB. Broadband internet is listed as a requirement. That applies even if you intend to play alone, because Steam’s metadata describes the game as connected software rather than an offline-only product.

The recommended tier keeps 64-bit Windows 10 and the same 72 GB storage and broadband requirements, but raises the components most likely to affect multitasking and graphics settings.

Processor step-up
Ubisoft and Steam identify an AMD Ryzen 5 1600 at 3.2 GHz or an Intel Core i7-4790 at 3.6 GHz, or better. Compared with the minimum examples, this is a higher CPU class with more room for the game, the operating system, and communication software to run together. It is the more sensible target if you regularly stream, record, or keep several applications open.
Sixteen gigabytes of RAM
The recommended memory is 16 GB. This does not change the game’s online rules, but it provides substantially more capacity for a modern Windows session and background tools than the minimum tier. If a desktop has two memory slots, check whether an upgrade would require replacing existing modules; laptops may have soldered or otherwise limited memory.
Graphics class and VRAM
The recommended examples are an AMD Radeon RX 580 with 8 GB or an NVIDIA GTX 1660 with 6 GB, or better. The move from 4 GB cards to these higher-capacity examples gives more graphics-memory headroom for textures and rendering settings. It still does not establish a guaranteed FPS result; display resolution, driver version, cooling, and in-game settings all influence actual output.
How to check your PC before installing
Use this sequence to compare your hardware with the published tiers without guessing from a computer’s marketing name.
- Confirm Windows architecture. Open Windows Settings, go to System, then About, and find the system type. It should report a 64-bit operating system.
- Record the CPU model. In Settings > System > About or Task Manager’s Performance > CPU view, note the complete processor name and compare it with the minimum and recommended reference CPUs.
- Check installed memory. Task Manager’s Performance > Memory panel shows total RAM. Eight gigabytes reaches the minimum listing; 16 GB reaches the recommended memory listing.
- Identify the graphics card and memory. Task Manager’s Performance > GPU panel or Windows’ display information shows the GPU model. Verify dedicated VRAM, because the minimum examples specify 4 GB and the recommended examples specify 8 GB for the AMD card or 6 GB for the NVIDIA card.
- Measure free disk space. In File Explorer, right-click the drive where Steam will install the game and choose Properties. Continue only when at least 72 GB is free, with extra room preferred for normal Windows and update activity.
- Test the connection you will actually use. Because broadband internet is a listed requirement, make sure the PC can maintain a stable connection to Steam and Ubisoft services. A speed-test headline alone cannot prove that matchmaking will be reliable; consistency and latency also matter.
Steam features and account setup
Ubisoft Account requirement
Steam lists a Ubisoft Account as required and supports linking that account to Steam. Plan for the account sign-in during first launch. If you already use a Ubisoft Account, use that same account rather than creating an unnecessary second identity, since progression and entitlements can become confusing across accounts.

Single-player does not mean offline
Steam includes a Single-player feature tag, so you can enter operations without a human teammate. However, the same store metadata lists broadband internet as a system requirement. Treat solo as a one-player mode that still expects online connectivity, not as an offline campaign that works after disconnecting Steam or Ubisoft services.

The online co-op format supports one to three players. A full squad is therefore three people, while a solo run occupies one place. The game’s design emphasizes teamwork, tactics, and careful extraction, but the Steam feature list does not require you to assemble a three-person party before launching.
Cross-platform multiplayer
Steam lists cross-platform multiplayer. This means the PC version is designed to play with supported players on other platforms, subject to Ubisoft’s account and service rules. Each participant still needs the required account connection and an internet connection; cross-platform support does not remove those prerequisites.
Captions
Captions are listed as available in Steam’s accessibility and feature metadata. Enable them in the game’s audio or accessibility settings if you want spoken dialogue and other supported audio information represented as on-screen text. The store tag confirms availability, but it does not specify every language or caption behavior.
Buddy Pass: bringing friends into a squad
Ubisoft documents a Buddy Pass that lets the owner invite two friends to play Rainbow Six Extraction free for 14 days. The invitation can go to friends on any platform, and those friends do not need to own the game. This is a time-limited trial arrangement, not a permanent copy, so coordinate the invitation with the period when your group can actually play.

The pass is separate from the PC hardware requirements. A guest still needs a compatible platform, an internet connection, and the account setup required by Ubisoft’s online services. Cross-platform support makes mixed-platform groups possible, while the 14-day limit defines how long the invited access lasts.
Internet, audio, and squad communication
Connection planning
Broadband is the only network specification stated in the published requirements. For practical co-op play, connect the PC by Ethernet when possible, pause large downloads, and avoid saturating the household connection during an operation. If Wi-Fi is your only option, use a strong signal and keep the router firmware and network drivers current. These steps improve consistency but do not change the official requirement.
Headset and microphone
A USB gaming headset with a microphone is a sensible optional accessory for coordinated squad play. It is not a mandatory item in the PC requirements. You can launch without one, but clear voice communication helps when players need to synchronize movement, call out threats, or decide whether to extract.

- Choose the minimum tier only when budget or existing hardware dictates it. The PC must still meet every listed minimum item, including 8 GB of RAM, a 4 GB graphics card in the stated class, 72 GB of free storage, and broadband internet.
- Prefer the recommended tier for a new gaming-PC purchase. The 16 GB memory target and higher CPU/GPU examples leave more room for background applications and graphics settings than the baseline configuration.
- Upgrade in this order when one part is below spec. First address an unsupported operating system or missing storage, then the graphics card and its VRAM, followed by system memory and CPU. A fast processor cannot compensate for a GPU that falls below the minimum graphics requirement, and extra RAM cannot supply missing VRAM.
- Do not treat “or better” as a single benchmark score. Compare the complete model, architecture, memory capacity, and power or thermal limits. Mobile and desktop versions with similar names can behave differently.
Common installation and launch problems
Not enough disk space
If Steam refuses the installation, verify free space on the specific library drive rather than the computer’s total capacity. Remove or move unused files, choose another Steam library with sufficient room, and leave working space for Windows and future updates instead of filling the drive to its last gigabyte.

On a machine at the minimum memory tier, close browsers, launchers, recording software, and overlays before launching. If Windows continues paging heavily, a move to the recommended memory capacity is a more direct fix than changing game settings.

Graphics-memory warnings
Check dedicated VRAM in the GPU information panel. Integrated graphics or a card below the listed VRAM capacity should not be assumed to qualify because the computer has a powerful CPU. Update the graphics driver through the card manufacturer’s supported channel and re-check the exact model.
Account or cross-platform sign-in errors
Confirm that the Steam account is linked to the intended Ubisoft Account, then restart the relevant clients and sign in again. A second Ubisoft identity can make ownership or invitations appear missing, so verify the account email before changing settings.
Solo launch with no connection
If solo mode will not start while disconnected, that behavior is consistent with the published broadband requirement. Re-establish internet access and allow Steam and Ubisoft services through the local firewall before troubleshooting hardware.

What the published specifications do not tell you
The listings do not provide guaranteed FPS, resolution targets, graphics presets, loading-time measurements, or a specific broadband speed or latency threshold. They also do not establish a universal performance result for every laptop or desktop that clears a tier. Use the requirements to determine eligibility and upgrade direction, then adjust settings on your own system rather than treating the minimum table as a benchmark chart.
Bottom line for a PC buyer
A compliant installation starts with 64-bit Windows 10, a minimum-class CPU and GPU with 4 GB of VRAM, 8 GB of RAM, 72 GB free storage, and broadband internet. The recommended configuration raises memory to 16 GB and moves to the Ryzen 5 1600/Core i7-4790 CPU class and RX 580 8 GB/GTX 1660 6 GB graphics class. Steam adds the practical requirements: a linked Ubisoft Account, online connectivity even for solo play, and support for one-to-three-player co-op with cross-platform multiplayer. If your hardware is near the minimum, close background software and keep extra disk space available; if you are buying or upgrading specifically for the game, the recommended tier is the safer target.
