Rainbow Six Siege Bots Explained: AI Playlists, Training Modes, and Botting Rules

Yes—Rainbow Six Siege uses bots. In the current Siege X season material, Ubisoft provides two official playlists in which you fight enemy AI: Enlisted for new players and Field Training for broader practice. Those sanctioned opponents are part of the game. They are not the same thing as “botting,” which Ubisoft uses for scripts or automated systems that imitate players and farm progression.

What “bots” means in Rainbow Six Siege

When players ask whether R6 uses bots, they may be asking two different questions:

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • Does the game put AI-controlled enemies in matches? Yes. Siege has official AI playlists and earlier AI training experiences.
  • Does Ubisoft allow players to run software that plays automatically? No. Ubisoft classifies player-side automation used to imitate a player or farm progression as cheating.

The first meaning is a normal game feature. The second is a rules violation. An enemy controlled by Siege’s own matchmaking and game logic is an authorized opponent; a script running on a player’s computer or console is not.

Which Siege X playlists use AI?

Ubisoft’s Operation Daybreak season material says Siege X replaced the earlier Versus AI presentation with two playlists aimed at different kinds of players. Their exact contents can change in later updates, so the playlist menu in your installed client is the final authority for availability.

Playlist Intended audience What Ubisoft describes Access or customization
Enlisted New players learning Siege Solo or squad play against enemy AI Access is intended to end at Clearance Level 18
Field Training Players who want structured practice Matches against AI with more configuration options AI difficulty, preset setups, and map selection are offered

These are not hidden opponents inserted into ordinary competitive matches. They are designated experiences presented as onboarding and training modes. Ubisoft’s current announcement does not make a blanket claim that every Siege mode, every map, or every future playlist contains bots.

Enlisted: the newcomer route

Enlisted is designed to introduce a new player to Siege’s basic loop without immediately requiring a full lobby of human opponents. Ubisoft describes it as a way to play against enemy AI either alone or with a squad. Its stated access window ends at Clearance Level 18, making it a progression-stage onboarding mode rather than a permanent replacement for player-versus-player play.

Because the mode is tied to a current season and a specific clearance-level rule, do not assume that an account above that level will see the same entry. If Enlisted is missing, check your level, the current season’s playlist list, and any notices attached to the mode.

Field Training: configurable practice

Field Training is the more configurable of the two current AI playlists. Ubisoft lists adjustable AI difficulty, preset setups, and map selection. That makes it suitable for repeating a particular exercise: learning a site layout, trying an Operator’s utility, or rehearsing an attacking or defending routine without relying on a human team to cooperate.

The names of presets, available maps, difficulty settings, and supported Operators are live-service details. Treat the controls shown in the current playlist screen as authoritative rather than relying on an older guide.

What an AI match can include

Earlier official material gives a useful picture of how Ubisoft intended full AI matches to work, while also showing why old specifications should not be treated as current. In the Operation Twin Shells update, Ubisoft described Versus AI 2.0 as a full-match experience with Beginner and Advanced modes. On supported maps, attackers could use drones, rappel, deploy gadgets, breach walls, and plant the defuser while facing AI teams.

Those details establish that the bots were not merely stationary target dummies. The mode was built around Siege’s normal attacker and defender objectives and allowed important parts of the attacking toolkit. Twin Shells was a prior seasonal update, however; its specific map list, Operator roster, difficulty behavior, and playlist labels may no longer match Siege X.

For a current match, inspect the mode’s rules panel before launching. It should identify the available side, map pool, difficulty controls, and any restrictions. If a feature from an older video or article is absent, that is more likely a seasonal change than evidence that Siege has removed AI entirely.

How to start an official bot match

Menu labels can move between seasons, but the practical process is straightforward:

  1. Launch Rainbow Six Siege and wait for the current main menu to finish loading.
  2. Open the Play or playlist screen rather than queuing for a standard competitive or unranked mode.
  3. Look for the current AI-labelled playlist. In Siege X season material, the relevant names are Enlisted and Field Training.
  4. Read the mode information panel. Confirm whether your clearance level qualifies, which maps are available, and whether you can change difficulty or presets.
  5. Choose solo play or invite squad members where the playlist permits it.
  6. Select the available options, then start matchmaking or launch the training session.

If you cannot find either name, do not infer that your installation has no bots. Ubisoft has changed playlist names and structures across updates. Restart the game after a seasonal patch, check the complete playlist list (including training or newcomer categories), and read the current season notes shown in the client.

How Siege’s bot features have changed

AI in Siege has not been a single unchanging mode. The following timeline separates current information from historical context.

Period or update AI feature described by Ubisoft How to interpret it now
February 2023 developer interview Bots were described in Training Grounds and Situations; the newer player-like bots were intended to help newcomers practice Operators, strategies, and maps. Historical design context. Ubisoft explicitly said these bots were not in live PvP matches at that time.
Operation Twin Shells Versus AI 2.0 offered full matches in Beginner and Advanced modes, with attackers able to drone, rappel, use gadgets, breach, and plant the defuser on supported maps. Prior-season feature information. Do not assume its map count, roster, or labels remain current.
Operation Daybreak / Siege X season material Versus AI was presented as two playlists: Enlisted and Field Training. The most direct current description available here; still subject to later live-service updates.

This history explains why players may remember different names. One guide may say Training Grounds, another Versus AI, and a current installation may show Enlisted or Field Training. They can all be accurately describing different points in Siege’s update history.

Are the bots in normal PvP matches?

Be careful with the phrase “R6 has bots.” In Ubisoft’s February 2023 interview, the bots then available were identified as procedurally generated enemies in Training Grounds and Situations, and Ubisoft said they were not in live PvP matches at that time. The interview discussed developing opponents that would prepare new players for PvP.

Current Siege X material confirms dedicated AI playlists, but it does not establish that bots are silently filling every live competitive, unranked, or other player-versus-player queue. The safe distinction is:

  • Official AI playlist: you deliberately select a mode built around enemy AI.
  • Ordinary PvP queue: the cited material does not support a universal claim that Ubisoft routinely substitutes bots for human players there.

Playlist policies can change. If Ubisoft introduces AI backfills or another hybrid system in a later update, that should be verified from the mode’s current rules rather than assumed from older interviews.

What Ubisoft means by “botting”

Ubisoft’s player-protection recap uses “botting” for scripts or automated systems that imitate a player and farm progression. This is player-side automation, not the game’s own enemy AI. It can include software that performs actions without normal human control, repeats matches, or seeks rewards while the account owner is absent.

The distinction matters because the word “bot” appears in both contexts:

Situation Who controls the character? Status
Enlisted or Field Training opponent Siege’s official AI systems Sanctioned game feature
Older Training Grounds, Situations, or Versus AI content Siege’s official AI systems Sanctioned when the mode is available
Script that plays, queues, aims, or farms rewards for a user Unauthorized external automation Cheating under Ubisoft’s player-protection rules

Using an official AI playlist does not make an account a botter. Conversely, calling an automated farming program a “training bot” does not make it an approved practice tool.

How realistic are Siege’s bots?

Ubisoft’s 2023 developer interview quoted technical architect Alex Busby describing the development goal: “Our goal is for bots to be completely indistinguishable from players, and we want them to emulate the strategies and movements of a real player.” That is a statement of intent, not proof that current bots are indistinguishable from humans.

In practical terms, an AI match can help you rehearse mechanics inside Siege’s rules, but it should not be treated as a perfect simulation of a human stack. Human players improvise, communicate, exploit timing, and make unconventional decisions. AI behavior, presets, and difficulty are implementation details that can change with patches.

No current quantified bot-performance statistic is established here. Claims such as a specific win rate, reaction time, or human-equivalence percentage would go beyond the available evidence.

What AI modes are good for

  • Learning the interface: New players can become familiar with movement, aiming, gadgets, drones, breaching, and defuser objectives before entering a human lobby.
  • Memorizing maps: Field Training’s map selection can make repeated practice on a chosen layout more efficient than waiting for a particular map in a general queue.
  • Testing Operators: You can try an ability or loadout in an objective-based setting and observe how it interacts with walls, doors, sites, and gadgets.
  • Rehearsing roles: Attackers can practice information gathering and entry sequences; defenders can work on setup and site movement.
  • Reducing social pressure: A solo player can learn the basic flow without immediately joining a team of strangers.

Use the highest difficulty and the least assistance available once the controls feel familiar. That will not recreate ranked play, but it can expose errors that an easy preset lets you ignore.

What AI modes cannot tell you

Bot practice does not provide a reliable measure of your rank, aim against human opponents, communication quality, or ability to adapt to coordinated strategies. A successful AI round may show that your plan works against that preset; it does not prove that the same timing will beat a human defender holding an unexpected angle.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Likewise, an AI opponent’s behavior can teach the boundaries of a mode rather than the habits of the player base. Treat training as a controlled environment for mechanics and decision rehearsal, then validate those skills in the PvP modes you actually intend to play.

Troubleshooting when AI playlists are missing

  • Check the installed version: Seasonal updates can rename or replace playlists. Look for Enlisted, Field Training, or another current AI/training label.
  • Check clearance requirements: Enlisted’s described access window ends at Clearance Level 18.
  • Read the mode card: Restrictions may apply to maps, Operators, party size, or difficulty.
  • Restart after an update: A client that has not fully applied a seasonal patch may display an incomplete menu.
  • Do not use external automation: If your goal is unattended progression, that is the prohibited botting behavior Ubisoft distinguishes from official AI play.

If a playlist is absent after these checks, consult the current in-game announcement or Ubisoft support information for that season. Older references to Versus AI 2.0, Training Grounds, or Situations may describe content that has been reorganized rather than removed from the game’s overall AI direction.

Bottom line for players asking “Does R6 use bots?”

Rainbow Six Siege does use bots as official AI opponents, most clearly through the Siege X-era Enlisted and Field Training playlists. Their names, maps, Operators, difficulty settings, and access rules are live-service details, so verify them in the current client. Those sanctioned matches are entirely different from player-run scripts that automate play or farm progression, which Ubisoft treats as cheating.
