The “Failed to synchronize achievements” message means a sync attempt did not complete; it does not prove that your progress or achievements have been erased. First identify whether the missing record is Rainbow Six Siege progression, a Ubisoft achievement, or a platform achievement such as one on Steam. Those records and Ubisoft’s cross-progression and cloud-sync features are not interchangeable.
What the error means—and what it does not mean
The message reports a synchronization failure, not confirmed data loss. The available Ubisoft replies do not establish a universal cause or show whether any particular player’s achievements remain safely recorded. Avoid treating the wording alone as proof that your progress is gone.
It also matters which record is affected. Ubisoft staff asked players reporting similar problems to clarify whether they meant cross-platform progression or Steam achievements for completed tasks. Include that distinction when describing the issue.
Separate Siege cross-progression from Ubisoft Connect cloud sync
Rainbow Six Siege cross-progression
Ubisoft developer Ubi-Vinci explained that Siege synchronizes progress across platforms linked to the same Ubisoft account. The developer described cross-progression as enabled by default and automatic, so it cannot be turned off. Ubisoft’s December 2024 support discussion is the source for that explanation.

Ubisoft Connect cloud sync
Cloud sync is a separate Ubisoft Connect feature for games that normally save progress locally. Ubi-Vinci described it as an additional feature, not the setting that controls Siege cross-progression. Changing a cloud-sync option therefore should not be treated as disabling or repairing Siege’s cross-platform progression.
What to check before troubleshooting
- Name the affected record. Is it Siege progression, a Ubisoft achievement, or a Steam/platform achievement? Note which specific achievement or progress item is missing.
- Confirm the account link. Check that the platform profile you are using is linked to the Ubisoft account you expect. Cross-progression depends on the platforms being linked to the same Ubisoft account.
- Record when the message appears. Note the platform, whether it happens at launch or after completing a task, and whether the game remains playable. This context helps distinguish an achievement-record issue from a broader connection or launch problem.
- Check for a current official notice. Look at Ubisoft’s current support or service-status channels before assuming that a past incident is happening again. The cited reports below are historical and do not establish today’s service state.
Cache steps Ubisoft recommended during an April 2025 incident
In an April 2025 support discussion, Ubisoft staff member Ubi-Orion said Ubisoft Connect issues were causing cloud-sync errors at that time. The staff response recommended clearing both the Steam and Ubisoft Connect caches and consulting Ubisoft’s linked troubleshooting article. This was dated guidance for that incident, not a confirmed fix for every achievement-sync error or a statement of current outage status. Follow the current instructions on Ubisoft’s support page for your launcher version. If the message persists, report which record is affected, the platform, the linked Ubisoft account context, and when the error occurs. The cited sources do not establish that clearing caches will resolve a present-day case.
Shader optimization and service problems
In the December 2024 discussion, Ubi-Vinci said shader optimization should not be related to progression or achievement synchronization, although it might indicate general connectivity problems in that reported case. That comment is not a universal technical diagnosis, so shader activity alone cannot confirm the cause.

Service-side issues can also produce sync symptoms: a May 2021 Steam discussion relayed a Ubisoft notice about Ubisoft Connect and cloud-save connectivity problems affecting multiple PC games. That is historical context only, not evidence of a current outage. The May 2021 discussion does not establish what is happening now.

The available sources do not establish whether skipping the prompt preserves online play or fixes synchronization across current platforms. A 2021 player discussion described connectivity problems after skipping, but an old player report cannot establish current game behavior. If the message blocks launch, include that detail in a support report rather than assuming that skipping it is safe or effective.
