Players reported stutter and FPS drops in Rainbow Six Siege around the Year 8 Season 1 (Y8S1) update, but Ubisoft’s published Y8S1.1 and Y8S1.2 notes do not document a general PS4 or PS5 gameplay frame-rate fix. Y8S1.2 does list a narrower fix for low performance while rewinding or fast-forwarding in Match Replay. That does not confirm a fix for drops during ordinary matches.
What Ubisoft’s Y8S1 patch notes say
Ubisoft published Y8S1.1 notes on 21 March 2023. They list gameplay and user-experience fixes but do not name a general PS4 or PS5 frame-rate-drop issue. The notes list download sizes of 1.88 GB for PS4 and 1.36 GB for PS5; those figures are update sizes, not performance measurements. Ubisoft’s Y8S1.1 patch notes
Ubisoft published Y8S1.2 on 11 April 2023. Its PS4 and PS5 downloads were listed as 1.39 GB and 1.05 GB. The relevant fix reads: “FIXED – Low performance while rewinding or fast-forwarding in Match Replay.” It concerns navigating Match Replay, not a documented repair for FPS drops in live gameplay. The Y8S1.2 notes also direct players to report bugs or issues through the “new and improved R6Fix.” The notes do not promise a particular remedy or timeline for other reports.

What players reported—and what that establishes
A Reddit discussion associated with the Y8S1.1 notes includes players describing stutter and FPS drops. One comment speculates that the problem affected PS5 but not a friend playing on PS4. These are individual observations, not a controlled comparison or confirmation from Ubisoft. They do not establish how common the issue was, its cause, or a reliable fix. Player discussion of Y8S1.1
How Ubisoft’s later performance targets compare
Ubisoft’s Siege X specifications, published 18 May 2025, list targets for Core Siege. These are later product specifications; they do not measure the 2023 reports or guarantee the frame rate a player will observe in every match.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to report recurring drops
If the problem still occurs, record the details that make the report reproducible. This is practical reporting guidance, not an official Ubisoft diagnostic checklist.
- Note the console model, installed game version, and the mode and map where the drops occur.
- Record when the slowdown happens and whether it repeats under similar conditions.
- Capture a short clip if possible, then submit the issue through Ubisoft Support or the R6Fix route referenced in the Y8S1.2 notes.
Ubisoft’s support site includes a “Connectivity and Performance” topic. The available patch notes and player reports do not establish a universal cause or remedy for the Y8S1-era drops. They also provide no basis for treating a cooling stand, external SSD, HDMI cable, or display upgrade as a fix.
