Yes—the Rainbow Six Siege incident was real, but the main shutdown happened on December 27, 2025, not necessarily now. Ubisoft said the game suffered a cyberattack that disrupted account systems and its in-game economy. The company took Siege and the Marketplace offline, rolled back affected transactions, and later restored the game. As of Ubisoft’s June 30, 2026 economy update, the Marketplace remained closed while Ubisoft worked on a broader security and economy rebuild.
Ubisoft said there was no indication at the time that personal data or source code had been compromised. That statement does not establish that every system was independently cleared, and claims of source-code theft remain unverified in the available evidence.

What happened to Rainbow Six Siege?
On December 27, 2025, Ubisoft acknowledged a cyberattack affecting Rainbow Six Siege and related services. The company intentionally took the game and its Marketplace offline while it investigated unauthorized changes to player accounts, currency, items, transactions, and ban-related messages.
Reports from the incident described players receiving enormous quantities of R6 Credits, rare cosmetics, unexpected account changes, and fake ban or unban notifications. Some players also reported authentication issues, matchmaking failures, disconnections, and other service instability.

What players saw during the attack
The reported effects were unusual because they involved the integrity of the game’s economy and account state, not just a conventional outage.

What Ubisoft confirmed—and what it did not
| Claim | Status |
|---|---|
| Siege suffered a cyberattack | Confirmed by Ubisoft in statements reported by gaming outlets. |
| Ubisoft intentionally took the game and Marketplace offline | Confirmed as part of the incident response. |
| Unauthorized currency and account changes occurred | Confirmed or reported as effects of the incident. |
| Some ban notifications were fake | Confirmed by Ubisoft-related incident updates. |
| Transactions were rolled back | Confirmed as part of the recovery process. |
| Personal data was stolen | Not confirmed. Ubisoft said it had no indication at the time that personal data had been compromised. |
| Source code was stolen | Unverified. Ubisoft said it had no indication at the time that source code had been compromised. |
| The entire Ubisoft network was breached | Not established by the available reporting. |
| The attackers were identified | Not established by the available reporting. |
Ubisoft’s wording is important: “no indication” is not the same as a publicly released forensic report proving that no data was accessed. Likewise, an attack affecting Siege does not by itself prove that every Ubisoft game, corporate system, or Ubisoft account service was compromised.
What was rolled back?
The rollback was intended to reverse unauthorized economic and account changes made after the relevant cutoff. That can include illegitimate currency grants, item ownership changes, and Marketplace transactions. Restoring a valid earlier state is different from manually repairing every account or determining whether an individual ban was legitimate.

Incident updates reported that players would not be banned merely for spending credits they received during the attack. That policy should not be generalized to unrelated exploits, suspicious activity, or legitimate anti-cheat sanctions. Ubisoft also continued to have genuine anti-cheat enforcement separate from the fake messages generated during the incident.
Recommended Free Tools
Players should not deliberately exploit, conceal, or transfer suspicious credits and items. A password change cannot repair a rollback, restore missing cosmetics, or reverse a legitimate sanction; those matters require Ubisoft-side account support.
Why the Marketplace stayed closed
Ubisoft’s June 30, 2026 update made clear that the Marketplace problem was larger than a short maintenance window. Ubisoft cited account theft, botting, malicious credit transfers, pricing instability, distorted item circulation, and broader economic imbalances.

The company said reopening would require rebuilding parts of the Marketplace’s security and economic foundations. That means “the game is back online” and “the Marketplace is available” are separate claims. As of that update, Ubisoft had not announced a completed reopening or a definitive relaunch date.

What affected players should do
- Check the official status page. Confirm whether a problem affects authentication, matchmaking, gameplay, the store, or the Marketplace before assuming the entire game is offline.
- Do not spend or trade unexpected currency and items while Ubisoft is investigating an account or economy problem.
- Change your Ubisoft password if you reused it on another service.
- Enable two-factor authentication through Ubisoft’s official account-security controls.
- Review linked accounts and recent activity for unfamiliar Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, Twitch, or other connections.
- Ignore unofficial support messages and links. Do not trust Discord accounts, social-media profiles, game-chat messages, or screenshots claiming to offer account restoration.
- Use official Ubisoft Help for account recovery, disputed bans, or missing items: ubisoft.com/en-us/help.
- Avoid “fixes,” unlockers, cheats, and verification tools advertised in connection with the incident. They may be phishing or malware.
Account security steps are sensible precautions, but they do not prove that a player’s account was breached and cannot undo server-side changes.

What remains unknown
The available public information does not establish the attack vector, the attackers’ identity, the complete technical scope, or whether any systems beyond the affected Siege services were accessed. It also does not provide a final Marketplace relaunch date or a universal account-by-account explanation of every rollback.
Hacker claims, videos, screenshots, and social-media allegations should not be treated as proof of source-code theft or a company-wide Ubisoft breach without independently verifiable technical evidence or a subsequent official investigation.
The bottom line
Rainbow Six Siege was hit by a real, Siege-focused cyberattack in December 2025. Ubisoft shut down the game and Marketplace to contain the damage, rolled back affected transactions, and later restored gameplay services. The most significant continuing consequence was the Marketplace closure, which Ubisoft said still required a deeper security and economy redesign in June 2026.
