Ubisoft temporarily shut down Rainbow Six Siege and its Marketplace on December 27, 2025, after an incident involving reports of unexpected credits, items and account bans or unbans. The game reopened on December 29 after a rollback and testing; Ubisoft said the Marketplace would remain closed while its investigation continued. Ubisoft’s public updates did not explain the incident’s technical cause or method.
What happened to Rainbow Six Siege?
On December 27, Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six team acknowledged an incident affecting the game. In updates reproduced by a contemporaneous chronology, the team said it had intentionally shut down both Siege and the Marketplace while working on a resolution.
Players and technology reports described unusually large amounts of R6 Credits and Renown, access to items players did not normally have, and unexpected bans or unbans. Contemporary coverage called the incident a “hack,” but Ubisoft’s public updates acknowledged an incident without identifying a technical root cause or attack method. The available updates also do not establish whether user data was accessed or how many accounts were affected.
What did Ubisoft do about the incident?
Ubisoft said it was rolling back transactions dating from 11:00 UTC on December 27. The team also said players would not be banned for spending credits they had received during the incident. The rollback continued through December 28, with quality-control checks planned before the game returned.

On December 29, the Rainbow Six team said live tests were complete and it was opening the game to all players. It warned that players might encounter a queue as services ramped up and said the rollback was complete.
Did the Marketplace reopen with the game?
No. Ubisoft’s December 29 update said the game was reopening, but the Marketplace would remain closed until further notice while investigations continued. Game access and Marketplace access therefore had different timelines: reopening Siege did not mean Marketplace transactions had resumed.

Could players lose items after the rollback?
Ubisoft said players who had not logged in between December 27 at 10:49 UTC and December 29 should see no inventory changes. It warned that a small percentage of players who connected after December 27 at 10:49 UTC might temporarily lose access to some owned items, and said it would continue investigating and making corrections.
