Ubisoft had originally announced November 28, 2023, as the start date, so the live release came eight days later. The November date was the plan, not the actual launch.
When did Operation Deep Freeze release?
Ubisoft confirmed the live launch in its December 6 announcement, “Operation Deep Freeze Live!”. That is the release date to use for Y8S4.
At the season reveal on November 12, Ubisoft had said, “Play Operation Deep Freeze starting November 28.” The reveal also said test servers would be available starting November 13; that was a test-server date, not the live release date. The original date announcement appears in the Rainbow 6 reveal panel.
Why was the season delayed?
A contemporaneous Insider Gaming report dated November 28, 2023, said Ubisoft delayed the update for further testing. That explanation is reported by the outlet; the sources cited here do not include Ubisoft’s original delay notice, so it should not be treated as a directly verified Ubisoft quotation.

What came with Operation Deep Freeze?
Operation Deep Freeze added Portuguese Defender Tubarão and his Zoto Canister. Ubisoft describes the gadget as creating a cold area that slows enemies and temporarily disables affected gadgets. The season also introduced the Lair map and brought the Marketplace beta, the full Reputation system, balancing updates, and controller remapping. Ubisoft’s official Operation Deep Freeze season page outlines the content.
The reveal also previewed a Versus AI playlist alongside controller remapping and other balancing and quality-of-life updates. These features formed part of the season’s broader rollout; they do not change the distinction between the November 13 test-server start, the originally announced November 28 live date, and the December 6 launch.
