Ubisoft revealed a Paragon cosmetic for Valkyrie’s MPX in Rainbow Six Siege in June 2025, and its elaborate weapon-inspect animation became a flashpoint in a familiar argument: do highly stylized cosmetics fit a game many players value for its tactical, grounded identity? Coverage showed both criticism and enthusiasm, but it did not establish how widely either view was held.
What was the Rainbow Six Siege Paragon skin?
The cosmetic was a Paragon skin for Valkyrie’s MPX submachine gun. Ubisoft revealed it on June 5, 2025, according to Insider Gaming’s June 6 report. The report said it was scheduled to arrive on June 17; Siege.GG reported on June 17 that Ubisoft had released the Valkyrie Paragon Bundle that day.
The inspect animation drew particular attention. Contemporary coverage described the animation as dramatically changing the weapon’s appearance, including a sword-like transformation. That visual effect helped make the skin more conspicuous than a simple change in weapon colors or finish.
Why did the reveal draw criticism?
Critics quoted or summarized by Insider Gaming objected that the skin’s extravagant, stylized presentation felt at odds with Siege as they understood it: a tactical shooter with a grounded visual identity. Some responses questioned whether the reveal was a joke; others invoked the game’s tactical-shooter roots. One comment reproduced in the report put the complaint this way: “Remember when Siege was a tactical shooter?”

That reaction was about fit, not just whether the animation was technically impressive. For players who want the game’s weapons and operators to retain a restrained, believable look, an effect that transforms a gun into something sword-like can feel like a departure from the atmosphere they associate with Siege.
Why did some players defend it?
Other comments focused on the animation as an example of technical and creative progress, or on the fact that a cosmetic is optional. Insider Gaming quoted former pro player and creator Pengu saying: “Say what you will wether you like the skin or not, but it’s pretty cool to see the evolution and progress we’ve seen from a tech perspective.” The spelling is reproduced as it appeared in the report.

Pro player Gunnar took the optional-purchase argument more bluntly: “Why are people so miserable lmao it’s a gun skin mfs are acting like this is gonna kill the game if u don’t like it don’t buy it”. Another comment summarized that view as “if u don’t like it don’t buy it.” These are individual social-media reactions relayed by a secondary report, not official Ubisoft statements or evidence of what most players thought.
What does “splits the community” mean here?
Contemporaneous coverage presented opposing reactions, but neither cited a representative poll nor quantified how many players supported or disliked the skin. “Splits the community” is therefore a description of the visible disagreement in those reports, not a finding that opinion was evenly divided.

A later discussion on r/Rainbow6 on September 3, 2026 offers anecdotal evidence that responses to the broader Paragon line remained mixed. It concerned another Paragon cosmetic, however, and cannot establish how players reacted to the original Valkyrie reveal or represent the player base as a whole.

| What players value | How the Valkyrie skin could be viewed |
|---|---|
| A grounded tactical identity | The elaborate, sword-like inspect effect can look out of place to players who prefer restrained, realistic presentation. |
| Expressive design and animation | The same effect can be appreciated as a creative or technical flourish, especially by players who see cosmetics as optional. |
