VOID Interactive’s July 2025 clarification listed several specific content changes made for Ready or Not’s console release: post-mortem dismemberment was disabled, some nudity and scene details were altered, an evidence description was made more generic, and one non-player character’s pose was changed. The studio described the adjustments as limited; players disagreed about their significance and what they meant for the game’s tone.
What changed in Ready or Not?
Contemporaneous reports on VOID Interactive’s clarification identified four kinds of changes. They concern particular effects, visual details, wording, and one character pose—not the removal of the missions discussed below.

- Post-mortem dismemberment: Dead enemies could no longer be dismembered. Dismemberment of living characters remained, according to GameSpot’s summary of the clarification.
- Nudity and scene details: Some nudity was removed. PCGamesN described one example: a tortured police informant was shown wearing underwear in the changed version, and some blood pools were removed.
- Evidence description: PCGamesN reported that a prompt describing evidence as “prohibited images of minors” was changed to “photographic evidence.” The reported change is to the wording; it does not establish that the mission or its subject was removed.
- NPC pose: GameSpot reported that one convulsing non-player character was changed to a sleeping pose.
What did the studio say was unchanged?
VOID said the game’s overall effects of gore and violence had not been toned down, and identified “Elephant,” “Neon Tomb,” and “Valley of the Dolls” as unchanged. The studio’s exact statement, as reported by GameSpot, was: “The effects of gore and violence — key to the game’s immersive realism — have not been toned down.”
That is the studio’s characterization of the scope. Some players argued that even a limited set of changes affected the atmosphere, or objected to altering an already released PC game. Those reactions are judgments about impact; they do not change the itemized list of reported adjustments.

Why did the PC version receive changes?
VOID connected the adjustments to platform and age-rating policies for a global console launch. The studio also said applying shared asset changes to PC supported stability and cross-platform play. PCGamesN reported the studio’s explanation that different assets could complicate cross-platform replication and create technical issues.
These are VOID’s stated reasons. The available reporting does not independently establish the precise requirements of any unnamed console partner or rating body.

How did VOID respond to the backlash?
PCGamesN reported another sentence from the studio: “While we may disagree with how some content is treated, we’ve only made changes where absolutely required, and only to the letter of the regulations, no further.” The statement is attributed to VOID Interactive, not to a named spokesperson.
The debate turns partly on what “not a lot” means. The studio framed the changes as limited and tied to release requirements; critics focused on the principle of changing content on PC and on the effect particular edits might have on the game’s atmosphere. Neither description is a neutral measure of how important the changes feel to each player.

GameSpot also reported in July 2025 that Steam’s lifetime review label was “very positive” while recent reviews were “mostly negative.” Those were labels shown at the time of publication, not current review metrics.
