They can add money, provide weapons and ammunition, change Dead Eye and honor, reveal the map, alter wanted status, and spawn horses, wagons, and stagecoaches.
Before activating one, make a manual save. Active cheats disable saving and block Trophies or Achievements for the session. These codes are for single-player Story Mode only, not Red Dead Online. The current complete cheat reference and the warnings from Rockstar Support are the basis for the instructions below.
How to enter Red Dead Redemption 2 cheats
- Create a separate manual save before entering or activating any code. Do not use your main completion, 100%, or Trophy/Achievement save as a test file.
- Pause the game and select Settings.
- Choose Cheats.
- Open the phrase-entry field using the platform prompt: Triangle on PlayStation, Y on Xbox, or the displayed enter-cheat key on PC. Current PC references commonly use Enter, but follow the prompt shown by your control setup.
- Press that same input again if necessary to open the text field.
- Type the complete phrase, including every period and comma, then confirm it.
- Once accepted, select the code in the Cheats list and toggle it on.
Entering a phrase and activating its effect are separate actions. A code may appear in the list as unlocked without being active. For the safest experiment, use a disposable sandbox save, activate the codes there, and reload the clean save when finished.
Important: capitalization generally does not matter, but punctuation does. These are phrases rather than button combinations or phone numbers. A missing comma or period can make an otherwise correctly spelled code fail.

There are four useful states to distinguish:
- Invalid cheat phrase: the spelling, spacing, punctuation, or phrase is wrong.
- Prerequisites not met: the phrase is genuine, but its required newspaper issue or story progression has not been reached.
- Cheat unlocked: the phrase has been added to the Cheats list but is not necessarily active.
- Cheat active: the effect is operating, while saving and Trophies/Achievements are disabled.
All 37 RDR2 Story Mode cheat codes
The phrases below preserve the required punctuation. A requirement marked None has no known newspaper or mission prerequisite in current complete lists. Newspaper-gated codes are explained in detail after the tables.
Money, honor, wanted level, and general effects

The complete phrase-and-effect mapping is cross-checked against GamesRadar’s exact-code reference, PowerPyx’s list, and the current complete RDR2.org reference. Some older or otherwise current-looking pages list only 33 codes or repeat entries, so an incomplete list should not be used to judge whether one of the 37 phrases is real.
Newspaper cheat requirements and issue numbers
Eight of the codes require a particular newspaper issue. The three newspaper brands use different names and numbering, but corresponding progression issues contain the same relevant material. The most reliable way to check a locked code is therefore the issue number, not a mission name copied from a guide.

The mission names in the table are useful orientation points, not universal guarantees of the first moment a paper can be purchased. Leading guides disagree about four gates in particular: heavy weapons, map reveal, maximum honor, and infinite stamina. Newspaper availability follows story progression, and different sources describe different earliest purchase points. Buy the listed issue as soon as a vendor offers it; the issue number is the decisive practical check.

Where to buy the newspapers
- Blackwater Ledger: Blackwater and Strawberry.
- New Hanover Gazette: Annesburg and Valentine.
- Saint Denis Times: Saint Denis and Rhodes.
After buying a paper, check Satchel → Documents → Newspapers to confirm which issue you own. The regional editions are equivalent by progression issue. Buying, for example, the required issue from one brand can prevent the equivalent copy from another vendor from appearing as a separate purchase.

Why a cheat code is not working
The game says the phrase is invalid
This normally means the game does not recognize the text as one of the established phrases. Check the following:
- Copy the phrase exactly from the table rather than typing the effect name.
- Keep every comma and period. For example,
Balance. All is balanceandVanity. All is vanitycontain periods that must remain. - Check spelling, spaces, and the complete phrase. Do not use a shortened variant.
- Capitalization is generally flexible, but normal capitalization makes transcription errors easier to spot.
- Make sure the phrase is one of the 37 Story Mode codes rather than a code from an incomplete or early-release list.

The game says the prerequisites are not met
This message usually means the phrase is genuine but the required newspaper has not been purchased. It can also mean the story has not progressed far enough for the vendor to offer that issue, or that an equivalent issue was already bought under another newspaper brand.
- Identify the required progression issue in the table.
- Check Satchel → Documents → Newspapers for that issue under any of the three newspaper brands.
- Visit a vendor in the relevant town and buy the next available issue.
- If the vendor has no newspaper available, progress the story and return later.
- Do not keep trying the phrase as though it were a spelling problem; a correct phrase remains locked until its newspaper condition is satisfied.
If you are already in the Epilogue, first check whether the relevant issue was purchased earlier. The equivalent paper may not appear again at a different vendor.
The code appears in the list, but its effect is not happening
Unlocking and activating are separate. Highlight the code in the Cheats menu and use the displayed toggle command. A phrase being accepted only confirms that it has been added to the list; it does not necessarily mean that the effect is currently active.
I activated a cheat and cannot save
This is expected behavior while a cheat is active. Disable the active code from the Cheats menu, but do not assume that doing so makes the current session a safe normal save session. The safest recovery is to reload the clean manual save made before entering or activating cheats.

Do not overwrite your clean file with a cheat-session save.
Save, Trophy, and Achievement warnings
- Make a manual save first: use a separate slot before entering a phrase.
- Active cheats disable saving: the game will not permit normal saving while the cheat-enabled session is active.
- Trophies and Achievements are blocked: do not expect awards to unlock during that session.
- Use a sandbox file: experiment with money, weapons, horses, or map codes on a disposable save rather than a completion-focused file.
- Reload afterward: the cleanest way to return to normal play is to load the pre-cheat manual save.
- Do not rely on toggling off: turning a cheat off is not a substitute for preserving and reloading a clean save.
Rockstar’s warning is especially important for spawned horses and vehicles. Since cheats prevent normal saving and cheat-related saves can become unreliable, do not describe a spawned Arabian, war horse, wagon, or outfit as permanently retained in your main progress file.

What cheats do not exist
No invincibility or god-mode code
The standard 37-code list has no built-in invincibility cheat. You flourish before you die refills health, stamina, and Dead Eye, while You seek more than the world offers fortifies those bars. Neither grants permanent immunity to damage.
No built-in Red Dead Online cheat system
These phrases belong to Story Mode. They are not Red Dead Online cheats. Trainers, mod menus, glitches, and exploit services are separate subjects and should not be confused with the game’s built-in cheat menu.
No safe permanent progression shortcut
Cheats can change the current sandbox state, but the no-save restriction means they are not a safe method for permanently adding money, retaining spawned horses, completing challenges, or progressing an achievement-focused file.
Platform notes
The built-in cheat system is covered for the PC, PlayStation, and Xbox versions of Red Dead Redemption 2. On PlayStation, open the menu with Triangle; on Xbox, use Y. On PC, use the on-screen prompt, commonly Enter. On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles, use the control prompt shown by the version being played rather than assuming a separate native-console menu layout.
The process and phrases are the same across supported versions; only the button or key used to open the entry field changes.
