Rockstar’s published Windows requirements for Red Dead Redemption 2 call for Windows 10 64-bit, at least 8 GB of memory and 150 GB of disk space; the recommended memory figure is 12 GB. Rockstar Support last updated its requirements on April 30, 2024. Check your PC against the exact minimum and recommended specifications below, and note that installing the game and playing online require a Rockstar Games account and an internet connection for activation, online play and periodic entitlement verification.
Can your Windows PC run Red Dead Redemption 2?
Rockstar’s requirements page, last updated April 30, 2024, lists the following minimum and recommended configurations. These are published hardware baselines, not a guarantee of a particular resolution, graphics quality or frame rate.

Rockstar Games Customer Support’s PC system requirements says downloadable content and programming changes may alter requirements. It also warns that some mobile chipsets, integrated graphics and AGP graphics may be incompatible, and that specifications not listed may not be supported.
How to check your PC against the list
- Confirm your Windows edition is 64-bit Windows 10 or a later system only if it is supported by the game and launcher; Rockstar’s published table specifically names Windows 10 64-bit.
- Compare the exact CPU and graphics card models, including the graphics card’s video memory, with the minimum row. A similar-sounding model is not proof of equivalent performance.
- Check installed system memory and make sure at least 150 GB of disk space is available for the installation.
- Treat meeting the minimum row as a compatibility check, not a promise of smooth play at a chosen resolution or settings. The recommended row is a higher published baseline, not a stated frame-rate target.
Account, internet and installation requirements
Rockstar says a Rockstar Games account is required for installation and online play. Internet access is required for activation, online play and periodic entitlement verification. The official PC product listing names the Rockstar Games Launcher and related required components; Steam also flags a third-party Rockstar account requirement.

Those requirements do not establish that every single-player session needs a continuous internet connection. Check the live storefront and Rockstar’s support information for current installation and launcher details before buying or reinstalling.
What the Windows PC version adds
In its 2019 PC announcement, Rockstar described HDR support, 4K and higher-resolution display setups, multi-monitor and widescreen configurations, and faster frame rates as PC capabilities. These are platform features, not a promise that a given computer can use every option or reach a particular frame rate. Actual results depend on the PC and selected settings.

Release dates and editions
Rockstar announced the initial Windows PC release for November 5, 2019. Steam’s listing gives December 5, 2019 as its release date; that is the later Steam storefront date, not a conflicting date for Rockstar’s initial PC launch.
Edition contents differ. Steam describes the Ultimate Edition as including the Story Mode content from the Special Edition, plus additional Red Dead Online content such as character outfits, rank bonuses, a Black Chestnut Thoroughbred and the Survivor Camp Theme. Rockstar’s store also lists the PC game and separate Gold Bars for Red Dead Online. Storefront, region and current availability can affect what is offered, so check the live listing for the edition’s current contents and terms.

Does Red Dead Redemption 2 support a controller on PC?
Steam labels the game as having Partial Controller Support. That is useful if you prefer a PC game controller, but it is not a claim of full support for every controller model or feature. Check the storefront listing and your controller’s compatibility details if a particular device matters to your setup.
