These are optional choices, not universal upgrades: keep third-person view, interface guidance, or accessibility aids whenever they make the game more comfortable or easier to read.
Which settings can make RDR2 feel more immersive?
Immersion is a balance between feeling present in the world and staying aware of Arthur, the horse, and nearby threats. First-person perspective and fewer prompts can bring you closer to the action; third-person view and guidance aids provide more spatial information. Try one change at a time so you can tell whether it improves your experience.

Try first-person view selectively
First-person can make close interactions and some gunfights feel immediate, but it can also make it harder to see your surroundings. Test it somewhere safe, then switch back to third person if visibility or comfort suffers. While aiming in first person, Rockstar’s quick tips say to tap down on the D-pad to look down the sights. In third-person aiming, the camera can move behind either shoulder. Rockstar Customer Support’s instruction is to hold L2/LT and press left on the D-pad to switch sides. This can improve your view around nearby cover without requiring you to change perspective. Button labels may differ on PC, so follow the prompts shown for your controls. Use Cinematic Camera for a known route
For a hands-free ride, set a waypoint, get onto a main road, and build up some speed before switching to Cinematic Camera. Rockstar recommends this setup for traveling hands-free. It works best when you want to take in the scenery on a route you know; manual riding gives you more control over turns, obstacles, and unexpected encounters. How should you tune controls without losing comfort?
There is no single sensitivity or camera setup that suits every player. Controller condition, platform, and personal preference all affect how a setting feels. The recommendations below are starting points from RDR2.org, not official best settings or universal rules. Make small changes and test them in a safe area rather than changing several controls at once.

Adjust movement and camera response gradually
- Control preset: Consider the Standard FPS preset if its layout feels more natural to you.
- Running: Try Toggle to Run if holding the run input is uncomfortable.
- Dead zone: A lower dead zone may make input feel more responsive, but the right value depends on your controller and whether its sticks register unwanted movement.
- Aim and look sensitivity: Adjust in small steps. Lower or higher values can each feel better depending on your preference and input device.
- Camera auto-center: Consider disabling it if automatic camera movement pulls your attention away from where you want to look.

How can Tap Assist help with repeated inputs?
Tap Assist is an accessibility option, not an immersion requirement. It can make sequences that ask for repeated button presses more manageable, helping you stay focused on the scene instead of the input demand. Rockstar Customer Support lists the path as Pause Menu > Settings > Controls > Accessibility and the available choices as Off, 2x, 3x, 4x, or Hold. What should you change first?
- Try first-person in a low-pressure situation, and return to third person if you lose useful awareness or feel uncomfortable.
- While aiming in third person, switch shoulders if the current camera position makes it harder to see.
- Set a waypoint and try Cinematic Camera on a familiar road when you want a relaxed ride.
- If controls feel awkward, adjust one movement or camera setting at a time and test before changing another.
- Turn on Tap Assist if repeated-button sequences are difficult or tiring.
Keep any HUD or control aid that helps you enjoy the game. Less guidance is not inherently more immersive if it makes navigation, combat, or accessibility worse for you.
