The REDMAGIC Gaming Tablet 3 Pro launched in China on June 11, 2025, with a 9.06-inch OLED display, a 165Hz maximum refresh rate, Snapdragon 8 Elite performance and an 8,200mAh battery. Internationally, the same generation was sold as the REDMAGIC Astra Gaming Tablet. It remains an unusually powerful compact Android gaming tablet, but it is now a previous-generation product and official stock is limited as REDMAGIC moves to the Astra 2.

REDMAGIC’s official specification page lists the full technical details. The Chinese launch was covered by ITHome, which reported a starting price of ¥3,999.
Gaming Tablet 3 Pro and Astra are the same generation
“Gaming Tablet 3 Pro” is the Chinese-market name, while “Astra” is the global name. They should not be treated as two unrelated tablets. However, regional firmware, configurations, warranty coverage, charger contents and Google-service support can differ, so an imported Chinese unit is not automatically identical in day-to-day use to a global Astra.
The tablet is also distinct from the older REDMAGIC Nova and the newer Astra 2. The Astra 2 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and was announced for global open sales from August 26, 2026.

9.06-inch OLED display with a 165Hz ceiling
The Astra’s compact OLED panel has a 2,400 × 1,504 resolution, 16:10 aspect ratio and 313 pixels per inch. It supports refresh rates up to 165Hz, DCI-P3 color and Corning Gorilla Glass. REDMAGIC lists up to 2,000Hz touch sampling and 240Hz multi-finger touch sampling, features aimed primarily at fast games.
Brightness needs more careful wording than a simple “1,600-nit display” headline suggests. REDMAGIC specifies 1,600 nits peak brightness and 1,100 nits full-screen brightness. Launch reports have used different figures depending on the measurement condition. The tablet also uses high-frequency PWM dimming, reported at 5,280Hz in launch coverage.
A 165Hz panel does not mean every game runs at 165 frames per second. The actual frame rate depends on the game’s Android support, frame-rate cap, graphics settings, thermal conditions and any available performance mode.
Snapdragon 8 Elite and active cooling
At its 2025 launch, the tablet used Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite, with Oryon CPU cores listed by REDMAGIC at up to 4.32GHz and an Adreno GPU. A dedicated RedCore R3 Pro gaming co-processor is intended to support gaming features. Memory options range from 12GB to 24GB, while storage goes as high as 1TB.

The performance package is backed by an enhanced ICE-X cooling system. Its components include Liquid Metal 2.0, vapor chambers, copper and graphene heat-spreading layers, motherboard cooling elements and a 20,000rpm turbo fan.
Active cooling is useful in principle for long gaming sessions, but it is not free. The fan can add audible noise, consumes some power and introduces mechanical complexity and dust-management concerns. REDMAGIC’s hardware claims should not be read as independent proof of a specific sustained-performance advantage.
8,200mAh battery and 80W charging
The tablet has an 8,200mAh dual-cell battery and supports 80W fast charging. REDMAGIC says a full charge can take approximately 64 minutes under its stated conditions. The global product page also makes clear that a power adapter is not normally included, although early-bird promotions were an exception.
REDMAGIC claims up to 33 hours of movie playback, as well as 5.56 hours in a Genshin Impact test and 4.55 hours in a PUBG test. These are manufacturer figures rather than independent battery results, and gaming endurance will vary with brightness, refresh rate, network conditions, game settings and fan use.

Design, ports and gaming features
The 370g metal-and-glass tablet measures 207mm wide, 134.2mm high and 6.9mm thick. Its size makes it more portable than a conventional 11-inch tablet, while the 16:10 OLED screen gives games more room than a phone.
There is one USB-C port with USB 3.2 Gen 2 data transfer and DisplayPort support. REDMAGIC lists external-display modes including 2K at 240Hz, 4K at 144Hz and 8K at 60Hz. HDMI output requires a converter.
Other hardware includes dual 1620 speakers with DTS:X Ultra, dual 0815 X-axis linear motors, customizable RGB lighting and a dedicated Magic Key. The key opens GameSpace by default but can be remapped to functions such as camera capture, flashlight, voice recording, translation or sound-mode switching.
The cameras are secondary features: a 13MP rear camera records up to 4K at 30fps, while the 9MP front camera records up to 1080p at 30fps. Bluetooth and USB-C controllers are supported, but REDMAGIC warns that some stretchable phone-style gamepads may not fit. The tablet is 207mm wide, and both clamp range and USB-C-port position matter.

Software and regional caveats
The global Astra runs REDMAGIC OS 10.5 based on Android 15. It supports split-screen multitasking and GameSpace through the Magic Key. REDMAGIC specifically mentions five years of software support for customers in the European Union and United Kingdom under applicable regulations; that statement should not be generalized to the United States, China or every imported model.
Before buying a Chinese Gaming Tablet 3 Pro, verify the exact ROM and model number. Check language options, Google Play availability, banking-app compatibility, OTA-update eligibility, warranty region, charger plug, return policy and whether game plugins or performance features work in the same way as on global firmware. The Chinese and global products belong to the same generation, but software and after-sales support are not necessarily interchangeable.

China
Chinese launch coverage listed a starting price of ¥3,999. REDMAGIC’s Chinese store later listed a 12GB/256GB version at ¥4,599. Those figures refer to different dates or configurations and should not be treated as contradictory universal prices. See the Chinese store listing for the current regional configuration.
Global markets
The global product was sold as the REDMAGIC Astra. REDMAGIC’s U.S. page showed a $549 price signal, while the global store showed $499. Regional pricing, configurations and promotions differed. The official U.S. and global pages currently indicate that the original Astra is out of stock, so these are reference prices rather than an assurance of immediate availability.

Because the standard global box does not normally include a power adapter, compare the final delivered price with the cost of a compatible charger. Also confirm stock, warranty, return terms and the exact firmware before buying from an importer or marketplace seller.
Should you buy the original Astra in 2026?
The original Astra still makes sense in a narrow scenario: you want a compact OLED Android tablet, need high-end 2025-era performance, value active cooling and can find a genuine unit at a meaningful discount from a reliable seller.
It is less compelling at its original full-price positioning. The official model is difficult to find in some regions, the charger may be extra, a 165Hz screen does not guarantee 165fps gaming, and the newer Astra 2 is now REDMAGIC’s current compact flagship. The Astra 2 launch page lists Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and prices of $749 for 12GB/256GB and $849 for 16GB/512GB.
The Astra 2 costs substantially more, so the decision is straightforward: choose the original Astra for value and its compact OLED format if the seller and warranty check out; choose Astra 2 if the newest platform and official current-generation availability matter more.

Verdict
The REDMAGIC Gaming Tablet 3 Pro was a genuine 2025 launch, not a separate product from the global REDMAGIC Astra. Its combination of a 9.06-inch 165Hz OLED display, Snapdragon 8 Elite, 8,200mAh battery, active cooling and up to 1TB of storage made it one of the more distinctive compact Android gaming tablets of its generation. In August 2026 and beyond, however, it should be viewed as a previous-generation bargain only when availability, firmware, charger contents and warranty are all verified.
