Interact with that machine to complete the quest. You do not need a camera item, special quest gear, or a successful extraction.
Quest requirements and objectives
Shani gives “Reduced to Rubble” on The Blue Gate after you complete “A First Foothold.” The listed follow-up quest is “With a Trace.” The objective sequence is:
- Take a photo of the Collapsed Highway.
- Go to Broken Earth.
- Follow the trail of destruction through Broken Earth.
- Investigate the unknown ARC machines.
PC Gamer’s November 3, 2025 walkthrough reports that the four objectives can be completed over more than one round. No particular item has to be carried into or out of the raid.
Step 1: Take a photo at Highway Collapse
Where to go
Enter The Blue Gate and travel to Highway Collapse in the southern part of the map.

How the photo works
This is an interaction prompt, not a photography minigame. Search the area for the yellow Take Photo prompt and activate it. GameSpot reports that prompts can appear at several points, including on the ground and on the collapsed highway. PC Gamer’s more specific recommendation is on the west side of Highway Collapse, north of the map marker, between a tree and a rock.
You do not need to bring a camera or another photo item.

Step 2: Reach Broken Earth
From Highway Collapse, head northeast through Olive Grove until you reach the Broken Earth point of interest. GameSpot describes Olive Grove as a more populated route, so raiders and ARC can make this crossing riskier than the objective wording suggests. Keep your route flexible and avoid unnecessary fights if you are carrying valuable equipment.
Step 3: Follow the destruction trail
At Broken Earth, continue northeast and uphill. The destruction trail is easiest to identify by its endpoint rather than by a continuous marked path.

Look for a large ring made from scrap metal roughly halfway between Broken Earth and Ridgeline. It is directly east of Maintenance Bunker. This landmark is the most useful way to locate the final objective when the quest text appears vague.
Step 4: Investigate the unknown ARC machines
Approach the old ARC machine beside the scrap-metal ring and interact with it. That interaction completes “Reduced to Rubble.” The PC Gamer and GameSpot walkthroughs both state that a successful extraction is not required after the interaction; the quest can finish even if you do not leave the map alive.

Recommended preparation
What you actually need
- Access to The Blue Gate and the quest from Shani after “A First Foothold.”
- No camera, binoculars, or other special quest item for the photo interaction.
- No requirement to extract successfully after investigating the machine.
Optional risk management
GameSpot suggests using a free loadout if you are unfamiliar with Blue Gate. That is a cautious choice, not a quest requirement: the route through Olive Grove can expose you to both raiders and ARC, and a low-cost kit limits the penalty for an unsuccessful run.

Quick route checklist
- Accept “Reduced to Rubble” from Shani on The Blue Gate after “A First Foothold.”
- Reach Highway Collapse in southern Blue Gate.
- Activate any yellow Take Photo prompt; the west-side spot north of the marker, between a tree and rock, is a reliable guide location.
- Travel northeast through Olive Grove to Broken Earth.
- Continue northeast uphill toward the scrap-metal ring halfway to Ridgeline, east of Maintenance Bunker.
- Interact with the old ARC machine.
- Extract if you can, but do not treat extraction as necessary for quest completion.
Why the objective can feel unclear
The first objective does not require a camera, and the third does not identify a precise structure in its text. Use the yellow interaction marker for the photo, then use the scrap-metal ring and Maintenance Bunker as navigation anchors for the final machine. Third-party walkthroughs provide the route and landmarks; they are not official developer documentation, and live coordinates were not established in the cited material.
