Before jumping into Rematch, learn the current controls in the tutorial or Practice Mode, rehearse deliberate passes and shots, and get used to checking the radar and your teammates. In matches, avoid sprinting or using abilities constantly: stamina affects what you can do with the ball, while smart positioning and quick passing help the whole team.
What kind of game is Rematch?
Rematch is an online, team-based arcade football game played from a third-person perspective. Its competitive play is built around coordinating with teammates as well as individual skill. The official Rematch site describes it as an online team-based football experience, and the PS5 listing identifies Practice Mode, tutorial reminders, control remapping, adjustable stick sensitivity, and ping communication among its features.
Mode menus can change over time. Epic Games Store’s January 27, 2026 beginner guide describes Quick Match options in 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5 varieties, but check the current in-game menu for what is available rather than treating that list as permanent.
How should you learn Rematch in your first session?
- Check the current tutorial and controls. Use the tutorial reminders and Practice Mode to learn the movement, passing, shooting, defensive, and goalkeeper actions available to your input device. Mappings can differ between controller and keyboard, and patches can change mechanics. On PS5, the listing documents control remapping and stick sensitivity options; check the current in-game mapping before relying on any button chart.
- Rehearse a few dependable actions. Practice moving with the ball, making a deliberate pass, aiming a shot at goal, and performing a defensive action. Epic’s January 2026 guide covers offensive mechanics including Push Ball, Dribble Stance, Extra Effort, and Ball Call. Treat any input instructions from that guide as dated and confirm the current inputs in game.
- Apply the basics in a lower-pressure match. Practice Mode is described by PlayStation as a consequence-free place to rehearse. When you are ready to play with a team, use Quick Match to try those fundamentals before moving on to Ranked, the progression suggested by Epic’s beginner guide. Mode names and availability may change, so check the live menus.
- Pick one skill to review after a match. Ask whether stamina management, aim, spacing, or defending caused the most trouble, then focus your next practice on that area instead of trying to master every advanced technique at once.
Why passing and off-ball movement matter
Rematch rewards team play, not just individual ball control. When you do not have possession, move into a useful position where a teammate can pass to you; when you do have the ball, look for a quick pass rather than trying to beat every defender alone.

In a June 4, 2025 PlayStation Blog hands-on report, Sloclap CEO and Rematch creative director Pierre Tarno described incentivizing teamwork as a central design challenge: “So you’re more vulnerable when you’re in possession, and defenders can quickly hone in on you, which creates pressure to pass. Passing quickly to teammates is the best way to put pressure on your opponents.” The report predates Season 5, but its underlying advice—to look for teammates and circulate the ball—remains useful.
That hands-on report says passes were aimed with the left stick and shots used a crosshair affected by camera control. Because the report dates to June 2025 and the game has since received major updates, use it to understand the aiming concept, not as a current button guide. Confirm how aiming works with your current controls.

How to use the radar and avoid crowding the ball
Check the radar to understand where teammates and opponents are before chasing possession. If everyone moves toward the ball, the team can leave open space for the opposition. The 2025 PlayStation Blog writer reported that the radar helped them read match flow and observed that a whole team chasing the ball could leave it exposed to easy goals. That is a hands-on observation, not a quantified rule for every match.
As a practical habit, when a teammate already has the ball, look for a passing lane or a position that helps cover space. When defending, pay attention to what is happening around the ball rather than joining a crowded contest automatically.

How stamina works in Season 5
Sloclap’s Season 5 gameplay post, published September 24 and updated September 25, 2026, explains that sprinting and abilities consume stamina, while ordinary movement without sprinting does not. Sprint speed scales with the stamina you have left. Stamina starts to refill after a delay when you are not using abilities, and ability recovery timing varies.
The practical lesson is to save bursts of effort for moments that matter. Walk or move normally when you do not need to sprint, pass to let a teammate take over, and avoid using abilities continuously. Season 5 changes the ball actions available at exhaustion:

- - Stunning Third-Person View: Feel every kick and tackle.
- - Global Leaderboards: Climb ranks and prove your skills.
- - Regular Updates: New arenas, modes, and rewards!
- Dribbling is limited to one move and has a longer recovery.
- Push Ball and Lob Push Ball send the ball farther away and recover more slowly.
Sloclap says these stamina rules are intended to encourage teams to rotate who interacts with the ball. Rather than forcing every play yourself, use teammates to keep possession moving while you recover.

Season 5 also distinguishes goalkeeper dives by reach and outcome. Sloclap says a regular dive covers roughly half the goal and can catch a ball within reach if the goalkeeper is positioned correctly. A long-range dive reaches farther but always deflects the ball, leaving it in play. Choose based on your position and the threat rather than assuming the longest dive is always the safest option.

The same Season 5 post explains that tackle contests resolve differently depending on how close together the tackles occur. The latest cited hotfix, version 1.205.004, dated October 2, 2026, reduced standing tackle assist by 12%. It also fixed two ball-interaction issues, goalkeeper rotation in 3v3, missing tutorial highlights for some players, and rebinding issues. These dated adjustments are another reason to check the live tutorial and current patch notes rather than copy old input advice.
When to use Practice, Quick Match, and Ranked
These modes serve different learning purposes rather than representing interchangeable ways to practice.
| Context | Best use | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Practice Mode | Rehearse controls and repeat actions without match pressure. | PlayStation describes it as consequence-free practice. The PS5 listing also notes tutorial reminders. |
| Quick Match | Apply passing, aiming, spacing, and stamina habits in a team match. | Epic’s January 2026 guide describes 3v3, 4v4, and 5v5 options; check current menus for availability. |
| Ranked | Progress to competitive play after learning the basics. | Epic’s beginner guide recommends learning fundamentals first. The guide does not establish a universal point at which every player should switch. |
Should you change your controller or settings?
You do not need a new controller to begin. PlayStation documents remapping and stick sensitivity options for PS5, which may help you adapt the controls to your preference. The available information does not establish that buying a particular controller improves performance; use the hardware you already have if it is compatible with your platform and check the current in-game settings.
