Resident Evil 2 Remake is not one fixed route. Choose instructions for Leon or Claire and for Scenario A (first run) or Scenario B (second run). The police-station objectives, three-medallion route, underground section, sewers and laboratory form the shared backbone, while weapons, events and several puzzle answers change between characters and scenarios. Use the section that matches your current character and run, and treat the optional safes, lockers and collectibles as resource upgrades rather than mandatory objectives.
Before you start: identify your route
The game has two playable characters: Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield. Your first completed campaign is Scenario A; after finishing it, the other character’s Scenario B (often called the second run) presents altered progression and puzzle solutions. Do not apply a Scenario A combination to a Scenario B puzzle.

|---|---|
| Leon or Claire | Exclusive objectives, weapons, rooms, events and some item paths. |
| Scenario A or Scenario B | Several statue answers, terminal codes, plug arrangements and herbicide steps. |
| Main story or completionist route | The critical path is faster; optional locks, files, Mr. Raccoons and upgrades require backtracking. |
No single character order is established as universally best. Pick the protagonist you want to play, then keep the scenario label visible whenever you use a code.
Police station walkthrough
Explore the station and secure your route
Search the police station methodically, open shortcuts and collect maps. A room shown in blue on the map has been fully searched; red rooms still contain an item or interaction. Early exploration eventually points you toward the three medallions needed to open the underground passage.

- TERRIFYING ZOMBIES WAITING AROUND EVERY CORNER -- Driven by insatiable hunger, these creatures act on instinct, gnashing their teeth, ripping at flesh, and devouring their victims. The new immersive camera lets you feel their fangs as they sink into your flesh.
- RACCOON CITY, REBUILT IN INTRICATE DETAIL -- The characters, environments, and story have all been rebuilt from the ground up to create a terrifying world that feels both nostalgic and new.
- NEW FOR PLAYSTATION5 – Upgraded features new to the PlayStation5 version of the game include a higher frame rate, 3D audio, added ray tracing, and engaging DualSense support for Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers.
Three medallion statues
Enter the symbols in the sequence for your scenario. The statue locations are the Lion, Unicorn and Maiden statues.
| Statue | Scenario A | Scenario B |
|---|---|---|
| Lion | Lion, Twig, Eagle | Crown, Flame, Flying Bird |
| Unicorn | Fish, Scorpion, Aquarius | Twins, Scale, Worm |
| Maiden | Woman, Bow, Snake | Ram, Harp, Bird |
After all three medallions are installed, the statue mechanism opens the route to the underground facility. The objective is the same for Leon and Claire, but access to weapons and some rooms differs by character.
Leon-only and Claire-only objectives
Leon and Claire do not share every key item or weapon. If a door, weapon or objective in your game does not match a guide written for the other protagonist, return to a character-specific section rather than forcing the route. Their exclusive sequences are intentional, not a missed universal key.

Underground facility and parking garage
Reach the parking garage
The medallion route leads through the underground area and toward the parking garage. Follow the newly opened passages, collect the key items needed for the garage doors and use the map to mark locked rooms for later revisits.
Electronic parts and plugs
Progress requires electronic parts and plug devices. The plug arrangement is different in Scenario B, so use the diagram and solution for the run you selected. If a solution appears impossible, verify that the guide is not describing the other scenario before moving pieces again.
Sewers walkthrough
Find the correct control rooms
The sewer section branches through treatment and control areas. Explore for key items, then return to the central routes as new doors open. The Control Room contains a character-dependent locker and is also a useful point for checking your map before the final sewer objectives.

Herbicide and sewer progression
The herbicide cartridge sequence changes between Scenario A and Scenario B. Follow the on-screen objective and match the sequence to your scenario; do not assume the other run’s order will work. Once the cartridge objective is complete, continue through the unlocked treatment route toward the laboratory.
Laboratory walkthrough
Use the terminal codes for your scenario
The laboratory terminals use different two-part sequences in the two runs:

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →| Run | First terminal | Second terminal |
|---|---|---|
| Scenario A | 3123 | 2067 |
| Scenario B | 2048 | 5831 |
Enter each code at its corresponding laboratory terminal after reaching it. The laboratory also contains character-specific objectives, so Leon’s and Claire’s final item paths should not be merged into one universal checklist.

Sherry’s block puzzle (Claire route)
Sherry’s block puzzle starts with randomized block positions. The winning arrangement is consistent, but the starting board is not. Rotate and slide the blocks until their faces reproduce the target arrangement rather than copying a move sequence from a different starting position.

These locks provide optional ammunition, upgrades or other resources. The direction is part of the combination: turn left or right to the stated number, then confirm.

| West Office safe | 9 left, 15 right, 7 left | Optional resource reward |
| Waiting Room safe | 6 left, 2 right, 11 left | Optional resource reward |
| Treatment Pool Room safe | 2 left, 12 right, 8 left | Optional resource reward |
Leon’s desk
Leon’s desk uses the letter combinations MRG and NED. Enter the letters at the desk locks in the indicated order.

Portable safes
Portable safes do not have one universal code. Their button order is randomized, so inspect the safe and solve the complete sequence shown by its lights. A combination from another playthrough may fail even on the same difficulty.
Optional completion and backtracking
Use maps to identify rooms that still contain items, then revisit them when you obtain the required key or tool. Optional locks are worthwhile when you need ammunition or inventory space, but they are not required to finish the main story.
PowerPyx’s 2019 collectible index lists coverage for 15 Mr. Raccoons, 8 safes and locks, 6 inventory upgrades, 58 files, 2 portable safes, 32 key items, 6 maps and 9 collectible weapons. Those are guide coverage counts, and availability can vary by character or scenario. Completion-focused players should use a dedicated checklist instead of interrupting the critical path for every pickup.
Quick Recap
How to choose the right walkthrough section
- Fastest completion: follow the police-station, underground, sewer and laboratory objectives, opening optional locks only when they are directly on your route.
- Resource-heavy play: backtrack for the West Office, Waiting Room and Treatment Pool Room safes, plus the listed lockers and desk.
- Second run: confirm every statue, plug, terminal and herbicide instruction is labeled Scenario B.
- Completionist play: track files, Mr. Raccoons, maps, upgrades and character-specific weapons separately.
- Spoiler-light play: stop after the objective heading, search the room and inspect the map before revealing its solution.
Common walkthrough mistakes
- Using Scenario A statue or laboratory codes during Scenario B.
- Assuming Leon’s route and weapons apply to Claire, or vice versa.
- Treating optional safes and lockers as mandatory story objectives.
- Copying a portable-safe sequence from another save.
- Following a fixed Sherry block move list without checking the randomized starting layout.
