Resident Evil 2’s remake follows Leon and Claire through overlapping but distinct campaigns. Choose solutions and route advice for the character and run you are playing: the first campaign and the other character’s 2nd Run do not use every same puzzle answer or story beat. This guide maps the major route, explains how to use character/run labels, and gathers practical navigation and survival advice.
Choose a character and keep track of your run
Resident Evil 2 is Capcom’s 2019 remake, first released January 25, 2019, according to GameSpot’s game listing. Leon and Claire each have their own campaign objectives and exclusive sections; they are not simply interchangeable versions of one route.

After completing one character’s campaign, you can start the other character’s 2nd Run. PlayStation Blog describes this as a changed perspective with adjusted puzzles, new weapons, and a different story flow. It does not establish one universally best character order, so choose whichever protagonist you want to follow first and use solutions marked for that run.
In this guide, “first run” means the initial campaign you select; “2nd Run” means the other protagonist’s follow-up scenario. Where a puzzle or objective is run-specific, check its label before using the answer.

Major route checkpoints
The campaign’s broad progression runs from the opening and prologue into the Raccoon City Police Department (RPD), then the underground area, sewers, laboratory, and escape. Use these location names as checkpoints when orienting yourself in a longer walkthrough; the details of some objectives vary by character and scenario. PowerPyx’s walkthrough covers this progression and calls out differences, while Vandal’s route guide separates character and playthrough material.
Opening and prologue
Follow the opening route until the game brings you into the RPD. Once there, use the map and room status to identify unexplored areas and outstanding items or puzzles rather than relying on memory alone.

Raccoon City Police Department
The RPD is a substantial exploration hub. Work through accessible rooms, examine items you pick up, and keep track of locked doors and unresolved puzzles. Leon and Claire have character-specific objectives and equipment, so do not assume that a route instruction for one applies to the other.
Underground area and sewers
Progression eventually takes you from the RPD into the underground area and then the sewers. The sewer chess-plug puzzle is among the solutions that can change between first run and 2nd Run; identify both the location and scenario before following a combination.

Laboratory and escape
The laboratory is a later campaign checkpoint before the escape. Greenhouse terminal codes are also run-specific in the cited puzzle guide. Keep the character and run selected in mind through the final sections, since the campaigns include different objectives and story flow.
Character-specific route differences
Shared locations do not mean identical campaigns. Vandal’s scenario guide identifies, for example, Claire-specific Chief Irons and Sherry objectives and Leon-specific Annette objectives. It also notes that some items and puzzles differ in Scenario B. Treat a named character objective as exclusive unless a route guide explicitly marks it as shared.

Before using a code or puzzle solution, identify its location, character, and run. The PowerPyx puzzle reference distinguishes first-run (A) and 2nd-Run (B) answers for multiple puzzles, including statue riddles, sewer chess plugs, and greenhouse terminals.

Do not infer that an answer applies to every character or run just because the puzzle looks familiar. The available guide material establishes variation for these puzzles, not a single universal combination list.
Survival and navigation tips
PC Gamer’s survival guide, published February 24, 2026, recommends a cautious approach to resources and exploration. These are guide recommendations rather than claims of independent playtesting.
- Conserve ammunition. The guide describes ammunition as finite and recommends saving bullets for situations where they are necessary.
- Check the map often. Nearby items are marked, and room colors indicate whether items or puzzles remain. Use the map to decide whether to keep searching or move on.
- Carry a counter-weapon. Keep one available for a dangerous close-range encounter rather than filling the inventory with unnecessary items.
- Store what you do not need. Put unneeded items away instead of destroying them, preserving options for later.
- Board broken windows. The guide recommends boarding them to reduce trouble from enemies entering through those openings.
- Examine pickups. Inspect items you find; an item’s details can matter to progression.
- Check safes and lockers. Search these before leaving an area so you do not miss useful supplies or other contents.
- Manage Mr. X carefully. PC Gamer says he reacts to gunfire. When pursued, run and move between rooms; a flashbang can provide a brief escape if you are cornered.

After finishing one campaign
Completing one character’s campaign opens the other character’s 2nd Run, which revisits the adventure with adjusted puzzles and a different story flow, as described by PlayStation Blog. Start that run when you are ready to experience the alternate perspective, and switch to B/2nd-Run solutions for puzzles that differ rather than reusing first-run answers.
