Short answer: Nintendo Switch 2 is the better way to play the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes away from a television, while PlayStation 5 Pro delivers the highest image quality and the most performance headroom on a large screen. Switch 2 and PS5 Pro at a glance
The three modern remakes do not behave identically. What “60fps” means on Switch 2
A 60fps target is a performance goal, not a promise that every frame arrives in exactly 16.67 milliseconds. A game can target 60fps and still dip during a heavy effect, a crowded fight or a traversal event. The cited reviews are useful because they describe observed play rather than merely repeating a menu label.

Resident Evil 2 Remake
TechRadar reported that the Switch 2 edition “targets 60 frames per second (fps)” and that frame rates were “delightfully consistent,” including during higher-octane action. In practical terms, that makes Resident Evil 2 the safest first purchase for someone choosing the Switch 2 version primarily for smooth play. The review found the experience smooth in both handheld and docked use, so changing from the console’s screen to a television does not require a different performance expectation.

The compromise is presentation rather than basic playability. Players seeking the cleanest fine detail, heavier effects and the most premium image should still prefer PS5 Pro or a capable PC. On Switch 2, the attraction is that the same broadly smooth experience travels with you.
Resident Evil 3 Remake
TechRadar likewise reported a 60fps target for Resident Evil 3 and described smooth frame rates in both docked and handheld modes with “barely any noticeable drops.” That matters more in Resident Evil 3 than its raw number suggests: the game’s faster action and frequent combat transitions make uneven frame delivery easier to notice than in a slower exploration sequence.
The review also found that HDR calibration helps the graphics translate well. Calibrating HDR on a compatible display will not increase the frame rate, but it can prevent dark areas from losing detail or bright effects from appearing washed out. PS5 Pro can still provide a more premium visual presentation, but Switch 2 owners are not accepting an unplayable conversion.
Resident Evil 4 Remake
Resident Evil 4 is the Switch 2 stress test. The port aims for 60fps, yet the game combines larger outdoor spaces, more enemies, heavier lighting and more complex effects than the earlier remakes. An October 2026 Digital Foundry analysis, summarized by Nintendo Life, identified a locked 40fps mode as a potentially more consistent alternative to the 60fps target.
A locked 40fps mode updates every 25 milliseconds. That is less responsive than a genuinely sustained 60fps mode, but it can feel steadier when the 60fps target is frequently missed. If your priority is consistent pacing rather than the lowest possible input latency, 40fps is the mode to try first when available. If you prefer responsiveness and can tolerate occasional compromises, use the 60fps target.

Resident Evil 4’s resolution numbers, and what they do not tell you
Respec measured Resident Evil 4 rendering internally at 360p in handheld mode and 540p in docked mode on Switch 2, with the image then upscaled. Those are internal render resolutions for this specific game and should not be treated as the output resolution of the console or as measurements for Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3.

Rendering fewer pixels gives the GPU more time for simulation, effects and frame production, but it also limits fine detail. The cited analysis specifically points to clearer compromises in hair, foliage and moving detail than on PS5 Pro. Reconstruction can make a low-resolution image look more coherent when the camera is still, yet motion, thin geometry and high-contrast edges reveal the source image more readily.
Do not read “540p docked” as “the game is displayed at 540p.” The console can output a higher television signal after reconstruction and scaling. Conversely, do not call that output native 4K. The evidence establishes the internal render figures for Resident Evil 4 only; it does not establish a complete native-resolution table for every remake, platform and graphics mode.
Why PS5 Pro has the visual advantage
Sony’s official PS5 Pro description lists an upgraded GPU, advanced ray tracing and AI-enhanced 4K resolution using PSSR. Together, those capabilities give developers more room to hold a high frame rate while preserving denser lighting, reflections, shadows and geometric detail.
Ray tracing
Ray tracing calculates selected lighting and reflection effects with more physically informed paths than traditional raster techniques. It can improve the appearance of glossy surfaces, indirect light, shadows and reflections, but it is computationally expensive. The available evidence supports saying that PS5 Pro has advanced ray-tracing capability; it does not provide a game-by-game list proving that every Resident Evil remake enables every ray-traced effect on that console.

Switch 2 performance reports focus on frame rate, reconstruction and detail compromises rather than documenting a comparable ray-tracing mode. Therefore, a claim that the Switch 2 versions offer the same ray-traced feature set would go beyond the established evidence.
PSSR and the meaning of “4K”
PSSR is Sony’s AI-assisted reconstruction system. It can take a lower internal render and produce a sharper-looking output than a simple upscale, allowing a game to balance resolution and performance. “AI-enhanced 4K” describes the output goal or reconstruction capability, not proof that every pixel was rendered natively at 3840×2160.
This distinction matters when comparing screenshots. A reconstructed PS5 Pro image can look cleaner than a Switch 2 image even when both consoles are sending a 4K signal to the television. The difference may come from internal resolution, reconstruction quality, texture detail, effects and frame-time stability rather than from the output label alone.
How display size changes the comparison
Handheld play
Switch 2’s advantage is independent of television size. At handheld viewing distances, the smaller screen masks some low-resolution artifacts, and portability changes when and where you can play. Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 are particularly strong fits because their reported 60fps behavior carries across handheld and docked modes.
Resident Evil 4’s 360p internal handheld resolution can still produce a playable image, but expect softer foliage, hair and distant geometry, especially during movement. Lowering expectations about image sharpness is part of choosing this version.

Television play
PS5 Pro’s advantages become easier to see as screen size and viewing distance increase. On a large 4K television, cleaner reconstruction, richer effects and steadier performance have more visual impact than they do on a small handheld panel. A high-refresh display with VRR can also make uneven frame delivery less distracting, although VRR cannot turn a demanding scene into a true 60fps lock.
If your television is a standard 60Hz model and you sit several metres away, the practical difference may be smaller than screenshots suggest. If you use a 4K/120Hz or VRR display at a normal living-room distance, PS5 Pro has the more convincing case.

Choose Resident Evil 2 first
Resident Evil 2 is the lowest-risk recommendation for Switch 2. The cited review reports a consistent 60fps target through both handheld and docked play, including demanding action. It also establishes the clearest continuity between portable and television use.
Choose Resident Evil 3 for faster, shorter action
Resident Evil 3 suits players who want a more action-focused campaign and a similarly smooth Switch 2 conversion. Its reported 60fps behavior and barely noticeable drops make it a good portable choice, while HDR calibration can improve tonal detail on a compatible display.

Resident Evil 4 is the most ambitious and the least technically uncompromised Switch 2 version. Buy it for portability and access to the full remake, not for the sharpest image. Start by testing the 60fps target; if pacing is distracting, use the locked 40fps option identified in the October 2026 analysis. Settings and troubleshooting
If Switch 2 feels uneven in Resident Evil 4
- Confirm which graphics or performance mode is active in the game’s options.
- Test the 60fps target in a busy combat area rather than only in a quiet room.
- If you notice repeated pacing disruptions, switch to the locked 40fps mode identified by the October 2026 analysis.
- On a television, enable the display’s game mode to minimize processing delay.
- If your television supports VRR, enable it on both the display and console, while remembering that VRR smooths variation but does not raise the game’s underlying frame rate.
If the image looks too soft
- Check whether you are comparing Resident Evil 4’s internal resolution with the television’s output resolution; they are different measurements.
- Compare the same game, scene and display mode. Applying RE4’s 360p or 540p figures to RE2 or RE3 is not supported.
- Use the television’s game preset and disable extra sharpening or motion interpolation, which can add halos or latency.
- On PS5 Pro, use the game’s available fidelity or performance options and let PSSR handle reconstruction where supported.
If HDR looks washed out or too dark

Those sources do not constitute a complete benchmark database.
